Playstation 2 wins, no competition

I'm a UT/UT2003 fanatic and have downloaded several gig of maps and skins. A PC is a must have.

Tech Cat, we have that topic raised every few months or so, and I never saw a war or anybody upset.

Me, I just can't see spending money on a game console when I already have a PC. Too much money, plus the fact that I'd have to buy a new TV since I wouldn't want to play games on the family TV (we only have one). So, anyway, it's just a big waste when PC gaming is just as fun.

My favorites? Hum, I'd say Riven (Myst 2), followed by Diablo.

Tech Cat: If you want to play games, use a gaming console. If you want to go online, use a computer. If you want to watch DVDs, use a DVD player.

I agree with that.  It's just like those all in one printers (fax, copy, print..) They seem like a good idea at the time, but there are always issues with them.

Me, I just can't see spending money on a game console when I already have a PC.

You can't play a lot of the games that are available on console on a PC, though (like Zelda).  We only have one TV, but we really don't watch that much TV, anyway.  Playing games on the console allows multiple people to play or help with a game.

Playing multiple people on Nascar wouldn't happen on a PC.  On a console it's just downright hilarious!

2) Ultima V, Halo, Gothic, Morrowind, Zelda, Red Alert... (too many)

First off, let me just say that the only major market that the Xbox is not selling well is Japan. It is the clear #2 in the US, Europe, and Australia. Worldwide it is recognized as the #2 console. With that said, the company with the best track record for quality, first party titles is Nintendo. The history that Nintendo has within the game industry is so legendary that in our lifetime they will always be mentioned at some point in any given “console” discussion.

But, that does not change the fact that the Xbox provides one of the best all-around gaming experiences available to date. I love my PC, and I love gaming on my PC, but I’ve pulled out more hair than I care to mention wrestling with anomalies from game to game to game on the PC. This game works great, pop in another and you could be looking at a whole different story. Hmmm, black screen but I can hear sound? Drivers… off to the web I go to track the issue down, when all the while all I wanted to do was pop in a game and play. There’s no arguing that the PC is the most versatile gaming device, but when I want to play a game, more and more I find myself going to the Xbox first because I know that I’ll be playing the game in under a minute.

Throwing Xbox Live into the mix makes it that much sweeter. Over the weekend five of us tried to get a Counter Strike session going on the PC. Two guys could find the game and three couldn’t. After nearly an hour we got to the point where four of us could actually play, but at that point one had to take off, so it was three of us. This was all done via online, phones, and IM sessions… Ugh… When I want to play against someone with Xbox Live I’m doing so in about two minutes. I’m not saying that this is a superior experience over the PC, but its leaps and bounds friendlier for folks who are less “technical” but want to game with others, and convenience is a big part of any given gaming experience.

Over the years the PC has provided me with loads of epic games, and when I say PC I’m including my ol’ Commodore 64 in there too. But fast forward to 2003 and the Xbox is proving itself to be an all around killer gaming experience, and it developers are putting loads of “PC” titles out for it to boot!

One more thing, while I have a PS2 also, I have to say that quantity does not mean quality. Of the bazillion titles that are available there, the ratio of “killer” games is still the same as the Xbox and the GC. There may be 1000s’ of more games available, but there are still only a handful of “must play” titles, just like the Xbox, GC, and PC.

For those who stated statistics on which systems are selling best globally or in certain regions, I feel that whatever is selling the most is not necessarily the best. The best system is relative to one's own preferences since each system offers something different. To me Gamecube is best because I like Nintendo brand games, I think a gaming console should only be for playing games (no DVD player, web browser, ect.), and I have no interested in online gaming which is why XBOX Live is not a factor for what is the best system to me.

Top 5 reasons I dislike the Gamecube:

1. Can not play DVD's
2. 3 inch cd's are easy to lose
3. Not backwards compatible
4. Price is set to high
5. Games ARE geared for kids

I have been watching DVDs in my PlayStation2 and haven't had a single problem, I prefer the PC for gaming platform and my favorite games is...................... DEVIL MAY CRAY FOR TH PS2!!!!!!

In my opinion, if a game is good, go and play it in whatever platform is available, if it just for the PS2, go and buy it, the same for other consoles. I enjoy the PC because of the resolution, the mods and online playability!

But for me, doesn't matter the platform, I just enjoy the games I play!

So? Real DVD players play DVDs better anyways. It's my experience that all in one machines are crap.

I have never lost a single disc. Maybe they get lost if you don't keep them in their cases or whatever form of storage you prefer to use.

Look at the PS2. Backwards compatibility causes shortcomings. For example, PS2 has only two controller ports instead of four because the built in PS1 compatibility wouldn't be able to function properly if the hardware was totally different.

Wrong. Gamecube is only $149.99. Now you can either a free game or a Game Boy Player with purchase.

And if you read this whole thread you are about the only one vouching for gamecube.

Gamecube and Nintendo produce higher quality games over XBox. There are a ton of games for the mature video gamer on GC. XBox may have more, but 90% of the titles on XBox are crap. The only thing that sets games apart now-a-days are gameplay, and the gameplay on GC is just better. The graphics on any of the newest machines are good enough, but to me, it seems GC always has that edge. Look at Zelda, now you got all sorts of Cel-Shaded games either coming out or already out. They are still the innovative leader of video games. The only strength Microsoft and XBox has, is online play. It's the only feature where XBox is leagues ahead of the competition. That alone is not worth it for me to spend $300 on an XBox. I will always go with Nintendo.

I will stick with playstation for one reason... Final Fantasy 7

Anyway, I might of said it already, but the Xbox's lineup is as good/better than that of the Ps2.

Now consider how many years Sony had a console out before the Ps2, got their name around, developed a fan base and developed relationships with developers where games were in development before the Ps2's release. Also, how long was the Ps2 out before the release of the Xbox?


Just as good of a lineup really says something for a first generation console also takin into account the Ps2's head start. And with the Xbox's upcoming games, well lookout. Quantity means nothing; quality over quantity.

I agree with that Hus. See I'm not the only one vouching for Gamecube. It does not matter to me if Gamecube is on top of the charts or not, I love it. It does not matter if Brittany Spears is on top of the music charts or not, I will not listen to her music.

Lets look at how it is:

Xbox has innovated HD play, 5.1 Dolby Digital in 99% of games, no need for memory cards (maybe you wanna keep dishing out money), custom soundtrack when developers implement it, System link, rip your cds to the hard drive and listen to em, downloadable levels and whatnot on Live and OXM discs, port in the back for easy online play and raised the bar with A.I. and graphics with consoles (not to mention pc).

Now, either you're hatin, or really misinformed.


It's your opinion what you think about the games and I can't argue with that.

Hard drives break. XBOX is the least likely to still be operational in the future when PS2, XBOX, and Gamecube are considered vintage. Gamecube has fewer moving parts therefor a longer life expectancy.
