Sure Hope Someone Can Help....

Well, I never could leave well enough alone. DX V. 1.94 was runnning fine on my system. Then I installed the 1.95 beta update. Now nothing works in DX. None of the shortcuts or menus do anything and they're all out of place to begin with. Problem is, I didn't see any way in SDC to restore the backup I made of 1.94 and CM won't allow me to do it from there, giving me a warning that SDC should be used and CM will now terminate. I can see the bars and objects but none of 'em do anything. All I want is to get back to 1.94 until 2.0 is out of beta. Any help will be much appreciated. Oh, and can anyone tell me why I can't post to the newsgroups? I've never used NG's much, but the ones I have used were always simple, just post like I do here really. When I try to send a post from Outlook Express I get an error saying no sender was specified, yet there isn't a place to put a sender. I know OE probably isn't y'all's ballywick, but just thought I'd ask. TIA for any help you can offer.

In SDC right click on DesktopX and uninstall...after it uninstalls uncheck show pre-release and install the release version...should be 1.30.

Well thanks for the thought goodmorphing. It's almost 1:00 am here and I've been tearin' my hair out since about 9:00! My wife's ignoring my grunts and groans pretty good so it was nice to see that you were concerned.

yrag, that worked fine, thanks a bunch. Now the only problem is that some, actually most, of my setups were written on one of the earlier-than-1.95 beta versions and at least the ones I've tried so far are still not working correctly. I've got one of my favorites working OK at the moment, but a couple others wouldn't show the shortcut objects inside some popup menus. Can you think of a way to either get a 1.9x earlier than 1.95 or to restore a backup I made in CM of 1.94? Or if a Stardock-type person is reading, would it be possible for you to email me 1.94? Again, TIA for any help. Y'all a great bunch!

You could try a system restore? In future cases, you might want to archive the current copy through Stardock Central before you update to the new build... just to CYA.....

I think you're out of luck..once you update the beta the old beta is gone and there's no way to get it back unless you archived the app. before the update. You can check in Object Desktop/desktopX folder and see what version that is, but I think you'll find that older then the one you have...

goodmorphing, thanks again for thinking about it with me. I shot straight up in bed about 5:00 am this morning thinking to myself, "Hey! I could do a System Restore!" When I got up I checked in here before doing anything and saw your post suggesting archiving through SDC, which I hadn't seen how to do at that point. So I opened SDC to look for that function and found it in the right-click menu. From there I could browse to the archive I made in CM. Getting closer. Problem is now that I had archived 1.92c, not the 1.94 that was working fine before. I can open all my themes but only the ones saved in 1.92 or before are showing my shortcuts in my popup menus. I haven't delved very much further into it, but it looks like DXToys in those later saves aren't working right either. Going to try that System Restore now.

Thanks to both of you for trying to help. I'll let you know what happens if you're interested. Take care.

I also just downloaded the beta last night, and have been having many problems. It seems that the mouse over function is busted, among other things.

Success! V. 1.94[b].007 is back after the Sys Restore and all the functions are working fine. I really, really, REALLY love what OD does, but it sure can get frustrating when something goes wrong with it. A few weeks ago it screwed up my ikernel. Hasn't done that again, but that was much scarier than this problem because Windows wouldn't even start. Was finally able to get to the "Last Good" option which restored the sys file. Oh well, gotta take the good with the bad, and I suppose the almost daily updates suggests that Stardock is trying their best to get it right. Anyhow, thanks again for the help and the interest. Back to configuring my favorite themes for me!

Please report bugs to Stardock.  Also, please email [email protected] or go to the newsgroups for support.  (Joining #stardock through the "chat" of SDCentral will get you into where the developers and Stardock people hang out, also)

It sounds like your profile isn't set up right in Outlook Express.  (That error has nothing to do with the newsgroup).  It can't complete your post because it doesn't have all the info.  It uses the same info that is set up for emailing.  Microsoft's web site has more troubleshooting advice on it.
