Hey guys, fairly new player here. Used to play SC:FA a lot back in the day and have around 1000 hours for both CoH and CoH2 combined. Anyways, I've really enjoyed Ashes mainly because it's been easy to get friends (mostly people with limited RTS experience) into the game because it has the right blind of simple/complex game mechanics. I'm a fan of this game because it takes aspects of both CoH and SC and combines them into a single game but did so in such a way that almost discourages teamwork. Here me out...
CoH's resource/point capture system is impressively well thought out and works great to both encourage teamwork and move the action out to the middle of the map. Since resources are shared, it's in everyone's best interest to hold the points. I understand that this would be difficult to extrapolate to Ashes unless the game was designed from the beginning to have this feature BUT there is a work around...
HAVING THE ABILITY TO GIVE POWER GENERATORS/RESOURCE NODES TO OTHER PLAYERS. ^ This should be a no-brainer. It's extremely annoying when a teammate needs help, you send in units and you end up accidentally capturing the resource node, which sort of defeats the purpose of helping them other than preventing them from being eliminated. Since resources cannot be shared and points cannot be requested/assigned, you only really end up benefiting yourself if you help a teammate out. Furthermore, the ability to take resource nodes from an AI is already implemented, so seriously, just implement the ability for either the owner to give the point to a teammate or have a teammate request said point. It requires an annoying amount of coordination/attention to prevent the accidental capture of resource nodes, that just should not be necessary to play with a big team. If there is some concern about people giving all of their resource nodes to one player so they can quickly spam units and then give them back, set a 5 minute timer on each node or something, to prevent this.
This simple implementation would dramatically improve gameplay but after thinking about it, I think it would be really nice to have the ability to share resources. This could be easily implemented by something like allowing amplifiers to be upgraded that increase production of a point but share some of the increased resource flow with your teammates. Although amplifiers typically remain when another team captures them, the upgrade could be abolished each time it switches teams or something along those lines.
If implemented I'm inclined to think that these two things would encourage gameplay by providing a potential mutual benefit to things like having joint defenses on a single point and overall combined attacks into areas of the maps, if you can easily divy up points/share resources between players.
Just food for thought... but if you guys think this is a good idea, where could I post it to get the attention of the devs? Above all else, having the ability to transfer resource nodes should have been implemented from the start.
