Can I put "Skinner at WinCustomize" on my resume?

Just remember don't put it down if you're applying for a job that opposes skinning. For example, when I applied for a job on those truth.com commercials, they rejected me when they saw that I had originally worked as a PR guy for several tobacco companies.

People are probably going to look at you strangely if you list "skinner" on your application............... most folks don't know what a skinner is (and don't care), and it sounds freaky to them. I say this from personal experience, when talking to someone about the internet, and such, and I mentioned I'm a skinner, I would get looks that ranged from "deer in the headlights", to "you're some kind of pervert"    Besides, "I design custom interfaces for computer programs, as a hobby" sounds much more impressive.

I think most people don't know what skinning is. And some might wonder if your some sort of super freak or racist or something that has to do with skinning people.

Use the term "Desktop Enhancment" or "Desktop Interface Design" (DID for short)

Or maybe Desktop Configuration Designer or Desktop Configuration Skinner... wait never mind the skinner part

Or instead of listing "Skinner", put down "WinCustomize.com Skinner". That way (if they care to), they can check what that is and what you have done.

I think you should put it in the "Hobbies" category.

I know, when I tell some people that I skin as a hobby, they look at you like they see a dead person

I like: GUI designer (witch is not really true, that would be if you builded your own shell)
or custom interface designer...

btw, for the once that don't know: GUI = Graphical User Interface

"Skinning" has been on my resume for years now. I usually drag along some old skins to demonstrate what it means and people then look at me like I'm crazy.

Truly, the world isn't ready for us yet.

nope... IIiiii think the world isn't ready yet for the word skinning. Lets keep that off the resume for now. Remember most resumes get like 10 second look over and you don't want anything there that might cause 'confusion'

Don't get me started on TRUTH... I smoke and I am over 21 yet every time I watch TV there they are... those idiots.

I think I would write on my resume that i design skins but thats just me and i already have a job.

I'd put GUI Designer if the job I was going for was graphic design related. I don't think that title implies that you do anything to do with shell replacement, as it's just a design title. If you said GUI Developer, then that would be something entirely different.

Just throw in a few words about useability, user interfaces and attention to detail, and it's quite a good thing to have on a resume for a graphic professional.

Just as an aside, I went for a web design job a couple of months ago and they ended up spending far more time looking at the skin screenshots in my portfolio than they did my web work! Once they understand what it is you do, it can impress in unexpected ways.

Best is to bring a laptop with you, and SHOW them what you do
