Pre-Sale Questions on Object Desktop and components

Hello.

I just recently discovered wincustomize.com and related sites. From reading and viewing all the products I believe they are what I'm looking for.

Before making a purchase I do have some questions. I figure users and administrators can help in answering some questions.

1. What's the difference between WindowBlinds and WebBlinds? From viewing the skins they seems to do the same thing, especially under WinXP as IE is a major part of the GUI.

2. Can you use the skins and themes of one product in another product if you don't have the creating product. (ie WindowBlinds skin used in a DesktopX theme, but you don't have WindowBlinds installed)

3. Do I have the option of downloading Object Desktop as opposed to waiting for the CD?

4. On average how much memory does a typical theme require? How specific can you configure the runtime?

5. Do the objects have speech command recognition?

1. Windowblinds skins all program windows, start menu, buttons etc. but Webblinds skins only Internet Explorer look.

2. No. You can use Windowblinds skins only with Windowblinds, not with Webblinds or IconPackager.

3. Yes, You do. You can purchase electronically Object Desktop subscription, download Stardock Central and then, through SDCentral, download all componets of Object Desktop.

4. It is dependent of programs and skins You use. On my PC the installed components are Windowblinds, CursorXP and ObjectDock - they all cost me about 5 - 15 MB of physical memory. Object Desktop isn't so exacting for system resources.

WindowBlinds skins pretty much everything. WebBlinds skins only IE. It's primary function would be to change the toolbars and throbber and a certain amount of pop-up stopping. Currently WebBlinds isn't particularly useful although I understand there may be some future work done on it.

You do need the associated product to use the skin. That is, DX will be required to use a DX package. If there is a WindowBlinds skin, WB is necessary. The best way to go by far is to buy the whole ODNT package. It's much cheaper than the parts and then you can use whatever parts work for you.

Download and you can start immediately. FWIW, the newsgroups are a great way to get support from other users. IRC here works well also.

I got close to a hundred WB skins and a bunch of other apps (WinFX for eg. very cool!) and the whole folder is 469 MB. Takes very little cpu to run WB and it's nearly as fast as the classic MS skin.

AFAIK, there isn't any speech recognition capacity.

It's a whole new world to wander!

A lot of Windowblind skins are actually FASTER than default Xp skin..

1. I have Windows XP and use WindowBlinds 4, and currently don't use WebBlinds because it actually gets in the way of WindowBlinds 4 skinning Internet Explorer. However, when it's updated, I'll probably use it again.

2. You can't use themes from one product in another product because each product has a different function. For example, DesktopX is designed to allow you to customize desktop however you desire, and WindowBlinds is designed to skin the windows and widgets of Windows.
