Use of Space and weird mix of styles

Hi, I have some issues with Start 11 RC2s use of space (Modern Setting).

And this happens, when I add shortcuts to Start 11:

Win 7 Grid.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Not really sure what is the issue here. You can slide those slider lower to cut down the empty space and slide it up if you wish to add more.

I solved 1) but 2) doesn't seem to be right. Why does it add tiles when I chose grid layout?

I believe you can disable those white/gray tiles background. Refer to screenshot below.

I have done that on the top of the menu, look again. And I have chosen Grid, NOT Tiles.

You on Windows 10 or 11? And I am also on Grid compact. I don't see the same setting on the tiles color on your screenshot.

Win 11. I think it should not add new links as tiles but add them to the grid. What it did in my shot makes no sense. ;-) But this is a beta so I wanted to hint to that. :-)

1) is not solved. After I configured the right pane to not be on the bottom, i still have too much space left in the right pane. Note I have configured 20 icons and have 20 icons. Still the menu is too tall with wasted space on the bottom.

Try setting it to Large, my guess that is count base on Large icons numbers

Even setting it to 3 doesn't change anything.

Found the mistake:

Set icons on the right pane to normal spacing:

Then small spacing:

Start 11 does not decrease the height after that.

That is an impressive list of shortcuts on the right hand side!

You are right it seems it isn't factoring in the spacing for working out how much height is needed for those.

Everything I ever need in one place. :-) I barely use the "All programs" menu. ;-)

Aha, I see whats different now.

You are using the modern tree option rather than the old tree.

I bet that thinks you are in Win10/11 style and so creates a group as it can't find one to put things in!

Will make sure we sort that.

Thanks for letting us know.
