It's totally worth it for 730+ days of unlimited downloads of everything on this site, plus much much much more.

The idea, if I'm not mistaken, was brought up - for the artists to be paid for their works on a download number basis. [or so I think, don't quote me..] Not sure if that would ever materialize tho since most [all?] who submit here do so because they have a genuine love of skinning and graphics.

Which part of my replies disgusted you? - Was it the "27 year old loser without a credit card" thing? -- I intended no ill feelings with that - it was actually an attack on myself for being a schmuck in my youth and ruining my own credit

A Wincustomize Subscription is $19.95 for two years and has some perks in addition to premium access when traffic is high. You can read about it if you click on WC Goodies on the top right hand side of the site's main page.

Additionally, traffic load issues are also currently a concern since two servers went down and only one has been replaced. The other is on order. The funds from the subscriptions pay for the servers and a portion of the bandwidth. So far the site is not self-sufficient and relies on funding from Stardock to make up the difference. Hence the recent subscription drive to replace the two servers.

nowayinheck: I know it seems unfair when you come to a site like this and find you suddenly don't have access, but, as someone said earlier, the dot com boom IS over, and if you could see the bandwidth bill for this site, it would scare you to death. It runs into tens of thousands of dollars per month, and that is without all the other attendant costs associated with running a site this big, such as hardware.

The bottom line is, that unless SOMEONE contributes towards those costs, this site just will not exist, and neither will all the other "free" sites that you download from. I'm afraid it's just the way of the world at the moment, and the fact that people get used to stealing music, games, movies and software etc, and get frustrated when something appears to NOT be free anymore.

I hope you DO subscribe to the site, it really is worth the small amount that we ask, and there are big changes afoot that will make your subscription even more appealing than it is now!. What more could you want?

As noted if you already have a paid registered version of WB you just need to change your email to the email used to purchase/register the app. Cross-referencing the account is as they call it. That should give you some of the site perks without paying again for a subscription. If you have any problems with this come back and ask (SD staff have a nice holiday break so I imagine email support will wait until next week.)

See, you left out a pertinent part of your story, you should have mentioned from the first that you had purchased WB, that is relevant info and so no you don't have to pay twice to use it (ie, meaning to download more skins and get preferred site access).

Just before I exploded, and started this whole stink.. I did enter in my e-mail address.. To do what you call "Cross Reference"... And I got I think a 2. Shoot I don't remember.. but something to that effect. Now i'm really corn-fused. I dunno. I must have fallen through the craks...

OH yeah.. one other thing.

As stated earlier by Wizop. That it cost loads of money to run a site like this... And yes it would scare the crap out of me to see the out-going money's it takes to run it.. But my question is this.. Isn't the adds you have on the site helping to bare some of those cost's? Just wondering. thanks

Ads don't pay diddly anymore.......... those days are gone. You say you have cross referenced, but you're User level 2. I think you need to try again. Once you successfully cross reference you'll be level 3.
