Apple Computers & WinCustomize

Stardock's apps work on PC's and if you look at a few of the WB skins on this site you'll notice that we are trying to make our PC's look like Mac's

Wincustomize is a site...and it must work, cause your on it.

Well, the whole deal with Stardock and Wincustomize is to customize Windows...
Hence WINdowblinds, and WINcustomize....

There may be similar programs for macs, or even have programs like it built in, but I don't know...

I don't really care for either anymore. I've gone through both the mac stage and the luna stage and now I just like having my desktop look like I want it to, not like some designer at microsoft or apple thinks it should look like.

actually there's a new skinning app for OSX called unsanity i think.

wulfn: err, no I don't think you understand the idea of skinning. It's not about wanting a computer looking like a Mac or like Windows... It's about having the CHOICE of having it look like whatever you feel like.  If I had a Mac, I'd look at whichever way to customize it like I want as well.  Especially those dreadfull brushed metal windows *shivers*. I don't mind the Aqua look too much, at least for a week or two, but the metal look...

I like the metal look, paxx, much better than the "take-over-the-world" bliss wallpaper-and-blue/green-butterfly-msn-msft-anus look that you see...um...everywhere

but not sure if anyone noticed but OD IS the mac dock. period. dont take that as a rant tho, i'm just commenting on peoples comments I've heard about not wanting to make your PC look mac-like

Object Dock started as a Mac dock lookalike, but it's grown into much more and much better with the way you can skin it and make it look like whatever you want.
But, on the other hand, the new OS X folder browser IS a copy of the Windows Explorer. Konfabulator IS much like a small imitation of Desktop X.  There are copies and imitations from both sides you know, and that's quite normal. That's how things evolve and improve.

Kona: Following your logic your bicycle is not better than the original bicycle? I think you will have to agree your statement was not thought through sufficiently. Not a rant either. Just an observation.

When you build your own computer, it's not a "PC" because PC manufacturers pay royalties to IBM to label their computers as PCs. Since your homebuilt computer is technically not a PC, does that mean it is worse than buying an already made system with the PC label?

I thought Frogboy mentioned that ObjectDock was an SD gizmo they developed before Mac had their dock. With the popularity of the Mac dock and Y'z dock, SD decided to release it as freeware. Notice how while Apple in essence shut down distribution of Y'z dock with threat of legal action, they apparently haven't bothered SD about Object Dock. I'm sure they would have if they had the grounds to, but they have a problem if OD's development indeed preceded the Mac dock.

Hold On!!! I do not have an Apple Computer yet. I was thinking of purchasing two desktops for the home. I have a DELL w/XP and although I enjoy all that WinCustomize has done for it...XP is extremely unstable and therefore my desire to get away from XP before I go crazy. From the messages I have read, apparently Apple is nice in and of itself that "why would I want to make it better"(?) Am I correct? My only question was--does WinCustomize work on Apple Computers...nothing more. Thanks folks for your replies...though some were kind of difficult to digest.

I still don't understand what you mean buy "does WinCustomize work on Apple?". WinCustomize is an internet site, and apple computers can access the internet...at least the last time I checked.

Ronald Gillette....'Wincustomize' is a website....it is NOT something that needs to 'work'.  An Apple web browser will be able to access this site.

The programs here, apart from the wallpaper images, of course will not work as they are for the Microsoft Windows Operating System which Apple does NOT use.

In reality you will get as many 'crashes' with an Apple as you do with Win XP....as both current operating systems are on a par with capabilities and stability...
