"...XP is extemely unstable..." ??? I can only think then there is something wrong with your install, hardware, other apps you might be running. W2K and XP are known for their stability as opposed to the 9x family in MS land.

Choose what OS you wish. But it sounds that if you're finding XP extremely unstable there is something wrong with your set up or something that is causing it to be so since that is not an intrinsic characteristic of the OS.

The TRS-80 Model 4 was the epitome of computer design anyway.

XP in of itself is very stable. It is usually the drivers that are installed for your hardware (usually the video card) that cause problems.

Commodore 128 very stable and reliable. Had one for 5 years, never had any issues with it.

Have you run a reg cleaner? Souonds to me like the registry has gotten borked somehow. I run XP-sp1 and it's solid as a rock (unless I do something incredibly stupid or try to run a crappy app).

xp is very reliable.

For me it is hard to really say what is more stable. Mac is UNIX based. It all comes down to user know how I guess.

The programs here, apart from the wallpaper images, of course will not work as they are for the Microsoft Windows Operating System which Apple does NOT use.

He could however, use a emulator and install XP on a Mac.

no. I am saying you can launch Mac proggies with OS X.

However like I ststed above, I have seen XP run on a Mac before using a virtual PC program.

I think what he meant was that you can't run windows programs very well if at all on a mac, and vast amount of programs only available to windows makes windows a logical choice. unless you have a specialty that a mac would cover.

what he was saying is sarcastically saying that the fact that object dock runs WINDOWS applications is enough to make people like it more. It was more wit and joke than literal can apple's run windows.

I'll be one to admit I like OD better than OSX's dock, strictly on customization. They both run the same for the most part, the only thing "better" is that it is a part of the OS so when a program comes out, it comes with a nice pretty icon already for it.

Presently, I have a DELL Inspiron 8200 and it looks nice, but laptops are not as good as desktops I am told. I want to get far...far...far away from XP and this is why we decided to go with Apple. So, just a simple "yes" or "no" as to whether I can still use this site to "fix-them-up". Thanks a bundle of Apples!

Their default graphics in their GUi [Graphical User Interface] is more attractive than the default Windows XP look, which is one reason such sites as this have skinners and their skins attempting to provide 'more appealing' graphics than the default.

Just to re-iterate....these skins and programs available here [Wincustomize.com] are ONLY for the Windows operating system and are not designed for Apple computers and will NOT work on them.

Got you good people!!! Um, I hear ya on XP being stable. I think that it is more stable on a desktop and not this Inspiron 8200 laptop. But, I did not know many things I know now back in January 2003. I will do some serious thinking on whether to go with DELL again for laptops or go with Apple. Being a Libra that won't be too easy.

Word of advice: Apples cost a crap load of money. Get a dessktop PC and upgrade it until it hurts with all the money you would save not buying a Apple.

But then again if you are into graphics and animation proggies Apples aren't bad.

Thanks Jafo, et.al.! Even if I do go with Apple, I will always be a member here as long as this laptop holds on. You are good people and your artwork is grand! BTW, yes, I do keep my Registry clean. I have never had a virus and use Norton SystemWorks, Internet Security, and ZoneAlarm Pro. My past crashes I strongly believe were due to this laptop just cannot handle going beyond 90 days without having a fit! Again, thanks much for your valued time spent on answering my question.

Ron: I have a Dell desktop computer running XP, and no problems at all here. Stick with Windows my friend, much more fun to customise than a Mac, and also, as others have said, much cheaper.

Wait until he has to repair his mac with new parts. SPENDY!
