Icon packager and litestep

One of the reasons I didn't use LightSTEP, (or PowerDesk) for long..........

Some of the icons in explorer are controlled by the way the explorer shell interacts with windows. When you replace the shell, you can't overide and change those items (not without a direct registry hack anyway).

so theres absolutley no way around this? I mean can I not go into the shell32.dll file where the default folder Icons are, and just simply replace the ones I dont want to use with the new ones?

well, that´s excactly how to do it. this way you can change far more icons than with with IconPackager anyways.

I have to agree with china on this one

an easy way to hack your system files (that is what you will be doing) is to get restorator. it allows you to see the resources in the dll and exe files and change them as you find fit(resources being icons, bitmaps, animations, etc.). In order to be able to change all of the icons there is a big list of icons you would have to replace. not only the ones in shell32.dll, but also ones in explorer.exe, about 12 other dll files in the system folder, come other files, and then if you want the programs and file types to changet their icon you have to hack them too and change their icon.
