If the start menu is normal size how can it be tweaked to narrow?

If the skinner hasn't included a compact substyle, then the only option (I think) is for you to open it up and edit the skin yourself...take a look at other skins that DO have a compact style to learn how it's done - but basically it relies on a limitted size graphic at the top of the menu and the right margin settings etc.

Depending on how basic the graphics are (something that stretches well)....the trick can also be done using the same graphics as a normal menu and defining the sizes of the different parts of the StartMenu to stretch only so far.

I was just gonna say that Essencay! I just did mine by specifying the "Width of ____ panel" etc. That, and majorly tweaking margins.
