Going by the description rather than the video, the turret part is the less interesting half of this. High ground protecting a long range turret is fine, but a turret only matters if the other player has to walk into it. In our Escalation games the defences bought time and nothing else. The map was always big enough to go around.
The other half is the part I would want to hear more about. Bring the right weapon means counters, and counters mean scouting and changing your composition mid game. Escalation was not really that game. You moved fronts, not units, and I liked that about it.
So I am not sure yet whether this is Ashes getting sharper or Ashes getting fiddlier. Both are possible from one clip, and I have not played it.
