What does the Scroll Lock key do?

I don't know what it does now, but I think it used to be used to 'pause' the screen when you were listing a directory in MS-Dos. If I remember right "DIR /P" would list the directory in pages, therefore no need for the Scroll Lock key

Another question: On the side of my Print Screen key, it says SysRq. What does this mean?

I use the scroll lock to secure my scroll bars in WindowBlinds....so other skinners can't steal them......

There is no standard use for the key. The BIOS keyboard routines in INT 16 simply ignore it therefore so do the DOS input routines in INT 21 as well as the keyboard routines in libraries supplied with high-level languages.

The Insert key is easy. Try it, you'll see. It either s the newly typed text, or writes over it.

I always have it off.

...It 'turns on' the numbers on the Numpad on the right of the Keyboard...

Oh great, so those seemingly completely useless keys are in fact... completely useless.

NumLock, on the other hand, is not so useless. It lets the numeric pad (the right side of the keyboard) switch between numeric input or the ins/del/etcetera functions. Okay, so the entire numeric pad is redundant, but those keys do have different scancodes than their equivalents elsewhere on the keyboard, meaning that you can safely use 'em as hotkeys.

I've got NUM+ and NUM- mapped to volume up/down for instance, while NUM/ tells foobar to play a random track, etcetera.

indeed. scroll lock is compeltely useless now. everything else on my keyboard sees a lot of use though.. print screen, pause/break.. now if i could make my keys work like an apple keyboard so i stop messing up all my shortcuts..

Oh yeah, works fine for me. The only time I ever see the player is when messing with the playlist. The rest of the time, it's just hotkeys.
