Konfabulator copped again by....NISSAN?!?!?!?!

Yes, that's right folks, Apple's not the only one taking a bite out of Arlo Rose's Konfabulator. Nissan has just released DesktopTools 3, which looks and feels remarkably similar to Konfabulator. But will this create a big of a stink here at WC as the show staged by Frogboy against Apple? methinks not. I wonder why.....

Wow. I didn't know Nissan made software, but I do know why there won't be as many complaints about Nissan making a program similar to Konfabulator and DesktopX. Nissan isn't imitating an application made by a third-party software for their operating system.
It's like comparing IE (Dashboard) for Windows shamelessly copying Netscape (Konfabulator) to Opera (Nissan's program). Of course, not everybody thought bundling IE and Windows Media Player and all those other programs into Windows were bad ideas.

True, but I'm sure if Nissan copied a Windows App, or perhaps an app from Stardock, the whole camp would be anti-Nissan immediatly

From what I understand, it seems the Nissan app is Flash based, as they say one requires Flash in order to ge the applets to work. So, although the idea is similar to Konfab and DX, its implementation is different, and probably a lot more resource hungry.

True paxx, but even flash based programs shouldn't be any more resource hungry to matter... Dashboard uses HTML and Java encoded "Web pages", which they call gadgets (widgets). These files are probably around 200k, which isn't much lower than the 500k average (give or take) for Nissan's widgets.

And last time I used DX, it ate up my computer's ram like Bush and my tax dollars.

macrobaye: it's not about the weight of the files, 200k or 500k or even 10 Megs. It,s just that Flash taxes the processor a lot.
Believe me I know, building Flash web sites and movies is what I do for a living, and I always get frustrated when I test what i do on slower computers.
