Rating criteria

A question for those individuals that can rate skins. What criteria do you use to rate skins-more bluntly what differances do you see between say a skin[or wall] that makes it either a 5 or say a 7.

Paxx put up a guide and I think Fuzzy and Jafo did also.
You will probably get a dozen different views on this subject but it will come down to what you think.

I'm not aware of any ratings guides posted by Jafo, or Fuzzy....... The one by paxx is LINK

My method is this....
0 to 3 points for Originality
0 to 3 points for Appearance (look and feel some call it)
0 to 3 points for Useability
The remaining 1 point is reserved for rare skins with the WOW! factor

Forgot to mention that with the new 1 to 5 star ratings coming up, I'll have to adjust my method somehow.

Here's what I wrote many moons ago...

Skill level - up to 3 marks
Functionality - up to 3 marks
Appearence - up to 3 marks
With 1 further mark for something exceptional which has already gained 9 max from the other categories.

Almost identical to #3

I too have yet to fit that into five stars...

...or to get to that spelling mistake before Jafo does

Appearance.... Spell checker

5 star ratings?.....

1 star......lowest 'quality' that warrants a rating.

3 stars...... average 'quality' competent but nothing special.

5 stars...... about as good as anything can get....you cannot imagine any way to improve it.

2 and 4 stars...... fit into the gaps as 'below average' and 'above average' respectively.

Personal prejudice/taste affects methodology.... unless you cna practise the idea of 'what would most people think of this' and let that also influence your personal taste/rating.

Most important thing is NOT to attempt  to 'push' a rating in either direction by exaggerating it....eg you think 5 is not 'fair' that it should be a 7, so you rate it a '10'.

If you think for ANY criteria that it should be a '7' then rate it a '7'.

One reason for switching to 'stars' [and loaded rating ability matched to user level] is to disempower the 'drive-by' rating idiot who posts a '1' because he doesn't like purple or a '10' because the person is a mate.

There is a couple of points to note regarding ratings.

1. Unless you have actually downloaded the item, how can you rate it. You don't know how it will perform. It may look good on the screenshot but may not actually work properly in practice.

2. With two methods of rating things will very confusing. The sooner one is discontinued, the better.Could we not change the 1-10 rating system here to stars now?

Hey, I agree that there should be a better system here...Here's my thoughts...not that it matters, but it's just a suggestion...

I think it would be really great if they came up with a system. Sort of like say, there are 10 catagories...then like could rate in each between 1-5, or 1-10, something like that...then have the total be averaged, for an overall rating...Wouldn't have to be 10 catagories, but ya know, likw say
.. astethic value...usability...orgionality...

Then with something like that we could know what area needed improvement, and it would aleeviate, as least a little, getting rated according to "who" you, or who your friends are, that kind of thing...

Plus, it would help keep people from rate slamming...at least some, because it would take more than a second to rate each skin....Heck, now, someone could go through and slam the ratings for a large number of skins in no time!!

I can't imagine it being very hard to impliment, would work just like the poll on the left.

Again just my opinion...
