Yes, I do think there's a spike in activity around here that isn't restricted to us old-timers. We've picked up a fair number of recruits lately, most of them new to empiring or to GalCiv in general. That this is happening as the xpack is coming out is an awfully big coincidence.
Blue, there are other ways to contribute to an empire besides just posting games. I'm averaging one game a month lately (trying to do better!), but work and family commitments are making a lot more demands on my time lately. Plus, there's the Jedi Republic website (shameless plug - visit http://www.angelfire.com/theforce/jedi_republic !) that's taking up 5-10 hours every week...
Sure, the Metaverse ladder is important - it's why we came here to begin with. But empires also provide a good sense of comradeship, a place to swap strategies and stories, and to provide a forum to talk about similar interests. I don't like the idea of kicking somebody out just because they can't meet an arbitrary schedule. If it's working for ANZAC, that's fine - but this is supposed to be about fun. If I have to schedule something, it stops being fun.
