Morbutor,

Click the icon that looks like a magnifying glass - it's on every post in the thread. You'll note that the icon now has a red "X" through it.

When you click on the text that reads "Show My Watch List" at the top of a thread, you'll get your short list of favorites.

Well, at least I finally finished a game. That's an accomplishment for me these days. Time to upgrade to 1.10...

Yes... I too have noticed that most of the empires (on the front page) usually end up with about the same number of members .. recrutis seem to spread them selves out theough the empires.. especially when they are needed to give a little ectra push to either remain where they are or if they are making a charge in the metaverse.

I disagree completely about standard membership sizes for the top empires. Take a look! Locality empires tend to be bigger, with fewer submissions per player; ANZAC is a bit smaller because of a group leaving and because you're trimming the zero-pointers.

Granted, FOTR, GROSS and MWC are a well-matched trio in terms of size - AT THE MOMENT - but everybody else is all over the chart. I think with the expansion pack here at last and submissions and recruitment obviously going up, the status-quo Metaverse that we've seen for awhile is in for a change.

Hi Judys! Just thought I'd pop in - haven't visited for a while. Obi - do you have a real sense of recruitment rising significantly? I'm not sure empire size matters either - most big older empires have lots of 'dead wood' collected over time in their ranks; ANZAC just actively prunes them out. I reckon most empires would, at any one time, probably only have 6-10 active members (playing and posting). Players rotate in and out re their activity, of course.

Our pruning our empire of ppl that are new and havn't posted a game or been active within the forum in 30 days.. makes the empire look a lot more active.. better for recruiting. once someone has posted a game then they'll remain on our list untill stardock does something (like reseting the metaverse.. heaven forbid). It also makes our ratio of games played / player look better.. for newcommers. and also encourages others to be active. (if you look at our senator list you'll see that we have about 12 very active overlords where they've played over 3 games in the last 30 days which is a requirement to be in the sennete of the ANZAC republic) Yet another incentive to promote activity.. Its not really the number of members that count.. look at the canadians and erro's .. they have among the highest number of members and yet GROSS and ANZAC are well above them in ranking and score.. I think that at the moment The ANZAC republic currently has the most active empire around due to the changes made under my guidence.

Change is good .. even just changing the logo every so often etc.. can draw in new members.. But on the whole it depends on the overlords in the empire to portray friendship, fun, and help.. as well as having active msg threads in the forum..

I hope these comments give other empires ideas on how to improve their quality of their own empire

Yes, I do think there's a spike in activity around here that isn't restricted to us old-timers. We've picked up a fair number of recruits lately, most of them new to empiring or to GalCiv in general. That this is happening as the xpack is coming out is an awfully big coincidence.

Blue, there are other ways to contribute to an empire besides just posting games. I'm averaging one game a month lately (trying to do better!), but work and family commitments are making a lot more demands on my time lately. Plus, there's the Jedi Republic website (shameless plug - visit http://www.angelfire.com/theforce/jedi_republic !) that's taking up 5-10 hours every week...

Sure, the Metaverse ladder is important - it's why we came here to begin with. But empires also provide a good sense of comradeship, a place to swap strategies and stories, and to provide a forum to talk about similar interests. I don't like the idea of kicking somebody out just because they can't meet an arbitrary schedule. If it's working for ANZAC, that's fine - but this is supposed to be about fun. If I have to schedule something, it stops being fun.

Wow - we hit post #500 and nobody commented...

Drew3077, your first Jedi milestone. By the way, what's up with your two submissions? They don't show if you won, lost, or anything...

Transmission from Jedi Chosen One Berserk-

My fellow Jedi, Sith knights. I won't be able to have much time to play for a while(perhaps a month or two). Real life job is demanding my presense more and more lately. The man's gotta eat ya know. But I'll be submitting a game shortly. :notsure:

End transmission-

I give up.. I can't say anything right.... I know that the metaverse is more than just the games and score.. in activity I mean over all activity. Of couse it has to be fun.. otherwise I wouldn't even be here.,.

In other threads i've been pulled out of context too (must be the way i word things... not very good with words.. thats why i tend to ramble on)

Keep going you guys/gals will get there

Take care in the real world, Berserk. If you have a few minutes, stop by the Forum anytime to say hello.

No problem, no harm, no foul, no offense. Everybody wants activity in their empires. There are, however, many types of activity - hence the rub.

Good luck against those pesky Midwesterners.

Yeah Drew, whats up with that? I've never seen that before.

I'm having slight difficulties doing much of anything right now due to lack of power at my house (:( . I'm using a friend's computer right now.

And also, school work will probably limit my game time when I do get power. :notsure:

I think you get that when you retire and submit a game.

Ray,
I show you as Ambassador and Diplomat in these threads...What is the difference and how long have you held first place now? That has to be some kind of record, doesnt it?

Jedi's, keep plugging away!

Obi Wan, some nice people at the CDG group have edited my event to fix some minor issues. I must have deleted your email, so I can't send you the updated version. Can you reply back to me if you still have it? If not, let me know and I will post it.
Thanks.

Not much difference, Dooku. But it was interesting to see bagginz from Stardock was only Ambassador. I thought Ambassadors were player access-levels.

Scanned through old Fellowship posts, I got first on 31 Jul so it's been 7 weeks I guess. Can't rememeber exactly but I think Staffa got it for more than 2 months.

Dooku:

Just sent you a reply - I still had the original.

Sherbert:

If you're going to be busy with school and such, feel free to stop off here in the Forum and say hello anytime. This is as much a community as a game.

Seems like a long 7 weeks. I would love to see one of your saved games to see your strategies; can you send me one?
Don't think you can see strats from a savegame Dooku because it is just a snapshot.

I'm writing a Galciv blog over at Joeuser and most of the strats I'm using will be there. 2 articles are up already.

I think the joeuser blog will be clearer than the Maso Strats thread in the Strat forum because it's summarised.
