bad habit?

i'm still learning this wonderful game, playing on beginner/normal level med.size, but wonder if learning a bad habit
when time for elections rolls around i drop taxes, then when i win election i crank them back up,so far have not noticed
any penalities for this, but wondering as i increase in levels will this turn out to be a bad habit i got into?
thanks for any feedback. ALOHA

I heard some people do this as well. Not a problem, but a better habit would be to learn to build up your morale consistently. I believe an overall morale in the 50s would allow you to win elections.

Welcome to the forum, B Garrett.

Hey, B Garrett. Welcome to the forums.

Tax slider use is a very advanced technique. Although you are getting more money by moving your tax rate around, you are being penalized in population. The lower morale also makes you suceptible to destabilization. In situations where you really need the extra money immediately, you might want to manipulate the slider. In the end, it's a short-run/long-run decision.

20% or so like i've read on some threads...but that's the joy of this game, keep trying new things...

B Garrett, are you from hawaii? (lucky guess). My dad lives there. Anyway your morale is not so good, therefore you lose the elections. Try the following (in any order/combo).

Decrease taxes to 35% or so. I find this number to be ideal.
Build morale planet improvements
Build morale trade goods (ie Frictionless clothing)
Find morale resources and mine them (the yellow things on the main map)
(If you are desparate) build a colony ship at high population planets and either move some of the population to a low pop planet or disband the ship.

Generally if you can get the morale planet improvements built, and your research is decent (ie you get the new morale structures before your population gets too large), and if you can acquire morale trade goods, you should have no problems.

There's alot more in the strategy guide.

I think it was said that you can have up to twice the PQ of a planet in taxes without any morale drops or tax evasion...

...not counting any morale boosts, of course...
