Rework the Metaverse!

I haven't sent any games to the metaverse yet but I was looking at it and noticed some extremely high ranked players who'd won a lot of games with difficulty settings that were almost all simple or beginner. As I've won on three of the four lower levels of difficulty {didnt play the easiest} and am experiencing a much tougher time at the harder levels it doesn't seem fair to me to have a point system that allows players who've never won on any of the higher levels of difficulty to be ranked exremely high along with truly excellent players who've games on the top four highest levels of difficulty. Thoughts anyone???

It's an old chestnut, Bluewulf. As it stands, the Metaverse, to quote my favourite summary from Ray, rewards commitment over skill. That is, just submit lots of games rather that have to prove it at a high level of difficulty. At the end of the day, it's Stardock's call - it's the way they want it, and I don't think they have lots of spare development money to go about recoding it. Accept it, and play for fun.

It's a common gripe among the few of us who enjoy the Metaverse, Bluewulf.

Unfortunately, people who participate in the Metaverse is a small minority as compared to the legions of others who buy the game but don't participate. So Stardock has decided to devote their resources to improving the game rather than the Metaverse.

Brad had mentioned some time back as well that they have also run out of budget for the Metaverse.

So don't hold too high an expectation for any more changes to the Metaverse.

Metaverse development is dead. Not unless Frogboy really wants to open that can of worms again. I agree that some more reform is needed, like real drastic scoring differences between the difficulty levels and eliminating the end bonus based on the type of victory by making the end a flat amount, but awarding skill points along the way for planet flipping, research, invasions, so forth.

Ahhhhh -- ok -- Didn't know it had been discussed so much so I'll just accept it as is --- Main thing is, this is one great game! And although Total Annihilation is my all time favorite game and a ton of fun online, this has got to be the most sophisticated AI game I've ever had-- congrads to Stardock!

Well, I don't think they should punish players who aren't "Hard Core Masochistic Nazi's"! Ok, thats a little overboard, but I think EVERY one at ANY skill level should have a level playing field. Yes, higher dif. games should have larger rewards, but if you want to submit many smaller easier games, have at it. Its meant to be fun and include everyone who loves this game, not just the X|>|^TS..

Obviously I'm missing something because I'm up late... but Yoda, what are you saying with X|>|^TS?

Bluewulf-

Total Annihilation was, and is, a great game. I think GalCiv comes in a close second in terms of the sheer number of modifications that I downloaded. I played Total Annihilation vehemently for five years before I grew exhausted of it. Other than GalCiv and a text and numbers-based MMPOG I used to play, TA has provided the best bang for the buck. Does the Zone still support it? Is the Zone still alive?

Cirrhosis!!! YES!!! The zone does still support it and I play all the time -- if you want to get back into it, join us. I'm on at night, usually starting between 10PM and 12 Midnight Pacific time. I'm in the Wrath clan -- I'm Wrath_BlueWolf. Stop by and say heyyyyy if ya want. As far the zone -- the place is probably more popular than ever. I just checked it now and there were over 87,000 players there. The TA "Bang for the Buck" you mentioned is totally true, especially since it's free to play on the zone. Since I love both TBS and RTS these two killer games provide a great contrast. I go on the zone and play a few real time TA battles and then enter this entirely different turned based, micro managing, world that has so much atmosphere and such a strong AI, that even though your not playing a live opponent it feels like you're in a real world.
