1.05 Infrequent Events and no Monsters???

After taking a 2-3 month hiatus from GalCiv, I've returned to 1.05 and after playing a few games noticed infrequent events (a total of 2 after playing 2-3 hours on a medium map) and never a sign of any space monsters (in fact, I have never seen a space monster even after being warned of their presence and scouring the map with scouts looking for them). Has anyone made the same observation? Is this an issue in the 1.09 betas? :HOT: - Humane

Game-breaking events are now rarer and come later.

I have encountered space monsters only once after playing for 4 months in versions 1.05 and earlier. But they are alot more common in 1.09. :)

Ray is right-

In my first GalCiv game, I encountered a space monster that lay waste to my civilization. Over the next 3 months, I never saw one other space monster. Until getting the first beta of 1.09. I don't know whether to be happy or sad that space monsters are more common and events are rarer. :(

Although the space monsters make a comeback in 1.09, they have fewer hitpoints, and move very slowly. Much better balanced overall. There are also anomolies, which when explored, turn out to be monster eggs! :SURPRISED:

There are 2 versions of space monsters in 1.09. The Aonomaly Beast, and then the Space Sharks. The anomaly beast, though not as strong as their cousins, they are still a nusiance in the early game, especially trying to keep your scouts, freighters, Survey ships (they love those the most), and SB's defended.

With a movement point of 1, I don't find the Anomaly beasts to be threatening at all.

Sheesh...you aren't kidding that they are more common in 1.09. I just ended (badly :) )a game in which I had lost every one of my ships in three years when my survey ships uncovered not 1, not two, but SIX space sharks in a row.

Which reminds me, there should be a selector to ignore certain classes of anomolies and things when in auto-survey mode.

Agreed, though it does make plunking down a SB without the first defensive upgrade a little dicey.

I'm happy there'll be more space sharks. Not seen one in ages. I miss the beasties. And I feel like I'll love the shark eggs I'll find in Drengin sectors :D.

I think there should be more events, I like get the nice 'let's give techs to everyone who's fallen behind' event when I've fallen behind in maso and the other races teach me how to build battledhips, dreads and avatars.

An event frequency slider would be most welcome.

I have been trying to hold out for the final release of the expansion pack. But I have not been on a good shark hunt for several months and I just love fried Space Shark. I may need to cough up that $30. Any update on the official release?

Space Sharks are very cool. When they popped up in my game I didn't have many ships (wasn't playing aggressive at all) so I had to use several antimatter missiles to defend my planets.

Shark Hunter,

The notice on the front page on GCX Beta 3 said that the official release would be "available to all GalCiv players in a couple of months."

Previously Sep was mentioned as the month of release.
