Well Wishes

Looking about, and no one around
Ah, glorious time
The peace of no sound
The dishes are piled high
Not a cupboard space free
The oven has spilled over
Wrapping paper up to my knees
The dog is sleeping
His belly content
Got all of the holiday leftovers
His time under the table, well spent
Mom’s in her room resting
A day too long to endure
She fell asleep at the table
Her dish to the floor
The neighbors’ brought well wishes
Of course before seven
Donning Santa hats and presents
Meant well, I’m sure,
But oh!
What a time
Couldn’t find the cat
He was sleuthing about
Until I heard the tree topple over
And he let out a yelp
Got a splinter in my foot
That’s what I get for not wearing shoes
Forgot my grandson got new pencils
Wood shavings eschew
Phone rang off the wall
But hardly all year
To wish me the best of the holiday cheer
Clanging of bells
Banging of drums
Wind up gizmos
Half bitten candy canes
Where did all these candy wrappers come from?
My carpet looks like a Picasso
All covered in various hues
Spaghetti sauce
Ice cream
Spilled cappuccino
The slush on the shoes
Now approaching dusk, I plop in my chair
Just noting the mess around me, everywhere
Food to put away
Empty the sink
Taking a deep breath
Don’t wanna think
Need a desperate shower
The dog needs a walk
Organization?
Ha!
Frustration
I’d rather sit and sulk
Yawning and stretching
I rise to the matter at hand
Contemplating next year’s get together
To think of a plan
I’ll order Kentucky fried chicken
Forget the good dishes
Gift certificates for one and all
A hug and a smile
A room of well wishes
