Cultural Victory Question

The last game I submitted, I won on "Beyond Human"... which is okay, but I had thought to win it on a "Cultural Victory"... but it didn't happen?

I have checked the requirements and seem to have met them all...

1) I had 97% Coverage (according to the Victory Conditions box) on Cultural - it says you need 90%.

2) I sustained this for the entire time it took to research Beyond Human and Final Frontier (about 40 turns). The computer was boxed in and had no resources to build anything to reduce my cultural coverage.

3) I had over 10,000 BC in the bank.

4) The game year was pretty far advanced timewise, as this was a "Gigantic" map.

5) I was not at war with anyone. In fact, the entire game I was only at war twice with minor races early in the game.

Yet, I never got any notice at all of impending Cultural Victory, nor did the victory itself happen. I ended up researching all the way to a Beyond Human victory...

Any ideas?

That 90% figure is misleading. The only time I got close to a Cultural victory, I had to get to 100%. The game then informed me I had to keep it there for 12 months to win. I think the 90% is the minimum it can go to before you have to re-start that 12 month cycle.

I could be wrong, though. I made sure I went to war with somebody so I could win Military!! LOL

I think that the indicator you were looking at was telling you that you were 97% of the way to achieving the Cultural Victory condition (which is to have >=90% coverage). So really you had 87.3% or so cultural dominance, which is 97% of 90.

You need a 100% rating in the cultural victory box, no wars with any major civilization, and the year be 2190 or later to start the 12 month countdown clock. If a major civ gains enough influence to break your cultural monopoly or a war with a major starts while the clock is running, the clock freezes and will not restart until the situation is resolved.
