Questions: And now its getting ridiculus...

I was some way through a game, and I started a war (well they started it first! Honest!) with the Yor Collective. Now at first things were going well. My ships were more than a match for theirs, and I wipped them in most battles. Then their hit points started increasing. I didn't worry for my much superior attacks defeated them still. Still it increased and increased so it is now 134% increase. That in itself is ridiculous, but bearable.
But now in the last few turns this has happened to their attack and deffence values. Their Battleships are better than my Dreadnaughts and this is crippling. It can't be research, because it has increased so much, and I can still offer many of my weapon increases research (like 1D phasing) in diplomacy.

Can I get the same improvements? Is this an AI counter balancing thing?

If there is nothing I can do, then I'll have to sign a peace treaty at any cost.

They may be building improvements on their worlds that increase starship quality (Shipyard, Advanced Quality Control, etc.). If that is the case, then yes, you should be able to get the same improvements.

Also, they might have some "Military improvement" resourses, that they are fully developing.
Never been sure exactly what these do.

If they do have some, take them over for yourself.
Could be expensive in ships though.

I think there is something programmed in to the game about the Yor. (Whether it is deliberate or not, I don't know.) In my current game I am (and have been for most of the game) way ahead of the major NPC civs. Tech, population, influence, military might, the whole bit. I'm plugging along, basically aiming for a peaceful research victory, when suddenly the graphs show a HUGE rise in the Yor's manufacturing and military might. I mean they literally have a two or three magnitude increase in capabilities in the course of just a few months. I'm still strong enough that they don't attack me, but they start wiping out the navies of the other races they were already at war with. This goes on for a while, then they just run into a brick wall. Their graphs just slam into the floor.

Ever since that they just can't seem to get their act together. They don't show on the map when I set it to display production, their ratings have remained in the pits and their worlds have been steadily revolting and defecting either to me or to the Independence League.

So I suspect that there _is_ something going on. There was nothing in any of my intelligence reports or any events to explain it, so I don't know if it is supposed to be a story line event or if its just some really strange bug.

(Hmmmm, although there was an event about the Arceans finding some artifact that was going to give them massive capabilities. Nothing happened to them. Could it be that the wrong race was listed in the event notice or got flagged by the event script?)

i think if they succeeded they got a 1% bonus in some random area every turn. over the long term, crushing all that opposed them.

if they rise and then suddenly crash on the graph could there be a "shoot the bolt" last ditch desparate battle of the bulge style strategy? they might spend all there cash, trade everything, lease everything, go into deep red, in an effort to win in one assault.

I'm pretty sure that those graphs are not a representation of "might" per say. I was under the impression that those graphs are related to spending levels. So if you do 100% Research then you should see your research go up, and if you stop researching then it drops. This would explain why your technology, economy, military, etc goes up and down alot even if you didn't fall behind in tech, have a deficit, or lose ships.

Icarium did they acquire any worlds or minors?Sometimes
a civilization will give up and surrender to another.
Could of been something the Hero picked up in space or traded for starbase resource or destroyed one and built upon it.They could have adjusted spending to social and built all starship improvements or traded for couple T/G that affect ships. They could have traded for ships from another race.

Rainbird I assume that like other resources you must build the appropriate facilities on planets for the military resources to help increase the weapons/defense stats of ships.

DT Usually what happens in times like these are they run out of money or are in huge deficits and all production(mil, soc, res)stop and bottom out.Look at your own graphs if you set one to 100%,the rest fall to zero.If you are really into the red then all go to zero.

Actually I believe that the Military graph does show a representation of your actual current military rating, not just of your spending levels. Not entirely sure about that, though; I'll try to double-check that tonight.

MIl graph shows primarily your overall might.I believe ships in orbit are slightly higher than ships moving in space.I think it has to do with attack and defense values of all ships added up and then is calculated based on proportional values compared to the other civs.

There is nothing special about the Yor.

They may have been mining a military resource and have built some shipyards. Maybe they found some techs too, or got the TriStrontium TG.
Or they got the event 'They are doing funny things and growing stronger everyday'. This last one is the ony you as a player can't get, but you're warned when it happens.

They could have had one of the other AI's surrender to them. Do you remember any message about an AI giving up?

Yes, the Dregin and Arceans have been eliminated by the Yor, and it said they annexed themselves to them. Is this what it is? The get the improvement of conquered races as well? Or is their military spending? Things are much clearer now. I think it could be the major civilizations giving up to them explanation. Thnx for all your help. But if you have anymore comments, I'm still listening to this post.

They don't get the abilities of those races, but they do get the planets and improvements built on them (except for SuperProjects, Achievements, Wonders, and Trade Goods). If the races that surrendered had techs the surviving race didn't, they may gain those techs when they take over the planets (you can as well when you gain planets from another race).

Humans are always so anxious to believe in magic, or aliens, or some supernatural explanation for why something happens... or that the GalCiv A.I. is playing by different rules.

"believe in magic" and your named after a Jedi (master?). lol.

But to the point in hand, I have statistacal evidence this is happening. An I can still offer LOADS of techs to them. This just dosen't make sense.
