Too funny - I was also a vampire. And Saturday was definately one of those 'I'm never drinking again' days.

Wow!!! Looks like it was an interesting weekend in the Metaverse. If anyone is looking for a stable place to contribute - I guarentee you will never go to the Metaverse and find out that the Republic of Aldar has disappeared.

Played a quick Maso game last night, think I am going to try a smaller map tonight to see how much it affects the scoring.

Are you trying to find the quickest way to score a lot of points?

I've still not had a chance to play under the new rules unfortunately. Ah, maybe when I retire

Yup. New house = no free time to crush alien civilizations Trying to figure out a way to crank out a bunch of high scoring games to shoot us up in the old Metaverse.

To be honest, the only difference I've noticed in the new release is that the Minors now expand out of their sectors. This seems to help them stay around a little longer. Other than that, the game play seems about the same.

Oh well, that's quite good for me - I love the minors as I'm so trade oriented and I'd rather trade with them than the majors. However, time as you point out is the enemy and not the aliens

Well, in my latest game one of the minors had the strongest military in the galaxy and took down the Altarians who were previously threatening to take over. I only had to wait for them to destroy the majors starbases and jump in myself to take them over. Then I could just pump out the culture modules!

I love the minors.

I am now officially bogged down in my current game. The galaxy is not a happy place. The Torians and Drengins are allied against the Altarians and the Yor (someone wiped out the Arceans before I ever met them).

I'm stuck in a corner with the Yor on my border. I currently have good relations with them because of lots of trade. Next to the Yor are the Drengins. I'm in the upper right corner of a large galaxy with abundant planets (playing Crippling). Basically looks like a blue, purple and red rainbow. Torians have the biggest military (lots for Dreadnaughts) and are located in the opposite corner.

I noticed that the Drengin's military was mostly destroyed leaving lots of nice fat PQ20 planets with almost nothing defending them. Figured it would be a nice opportunity to 'save' them, so I sent some Frigates and Transports to 'help'.

Long story short, I captured a bunch of Drengin planets at the expense of the Torians honoring their alliance with the Drengins and declaring war on me. Thought I could capture some nice planets and then get peace. Drengins followed my plans perfectly, but...

...the Torians were not happy and sent LOTS of Dreadnaughts that just about wiped me out. I figured that worst case, I would lose the planets I had just captured and the Yor would end up getting weakened since they were between me and the Torians in the lower right corner and already at war with each other. Stupid robots hid and let the green Dreads pass right through their space to pound me. If I survive to Overlords the Robots are history.

Currently have a very tenuous peace with the Torians and am hoping my freightors get to them before they decide to 'deal with me now'.

Had one minor sharing a sector with me early in the game, I'm kind of regretting killing them off...

Oh, that sounds a tough one. I'm playing in a huge, occasional galaxy as usual for my try on crippling with the 1.11 rules. An excellent start - right in the middle of the galaxy with a lot of sectors with multiple stars around me. I expanded and met the Carinoids, Scotlingas and Kwilasians all in quick succession. A problem for actual planets - I've had to settle for about ten after initial expansion but great for getting the money to keep my spending at 100% and move along in tech. Pretty weak majors so far though still the Yor to meet.

Finished the game last night while watching Monday Night Football. Have decided that the Green Bay Packer fans are probably the envy of every major sports team owner on the planet (they have 60,000 people on their waiting list for season tickets). 38 degrees and raining and they are sitting in the stands using blocks of cheese for hats.

Anyway, I was not the first to Overlords which made life very interesting. My freightors made it to Torian space and I ended up with enough trade to keep them happy. Traded techs for Combat Transports and was able to vulture several planets without having to lose many ships. Positioned Corvettes near every planet and waited. Just before the Torian invasion was about to start I would buy their Combat Transports and voila, free planets. Ended up getting about half the planets the Torians should have captured without expending much of my military.

Eventually it was just me and the Torians. Their military was actually quite a bit stronger than mine even though we were about even on the graphs because most of my ships were corvettes left over from early in the game. I started giving them corvettes, which improved relations to the point where I could start culture bombing them. The corvettes also had the added bonus of saddling them with a great deal of maintainance.

Ended up declaring war and wiping out the last couple of Torian planets for a military victory. Very disappointed with the Metaverse score, but have decided that I am going to keep playing on Crippling because the game is much more interesting for me at that level.

We are going to have to get more recruits for the Republic.
