The Fellowship Halls (Fellowship of the Ring Empire Thread)

Welcome to the Fellowship of the Ring Empire Thread - The Sequel. :)

The old FotR thread was getting too big and it was taking too long to load the thread, thus this new one.

Since this is the first post, I will reproduce some of the more important links for our Empire.

The FotR Website : http://www.angelfire.com/rings/fellowshipgalciv

The FotR Metaverse Empire Page : http://www.galciv.com/metaverse/empires.asp?id=329 (use this page to join)

The Metaverse Review (Theoden) : http://metaversereview.joeuser.com/

A big welcome to all from Ray the Wanderer.
Enjoy your stay here at the Fellowship Halls. :)

Caronids too? Hmm... in my current game the Scottinglas wouldn't trade for cash. I don't think I've found the Caronids yet.

Ray, I'll send you the file as soon as I'm in front of that computer again.

Gerakken, agree with Sirian that you don't need to cheese to win at maso. If you want to win every game, then maybe--you'll need to control-N out of bad starts, at least. You certainly don't need to be a ruthless military rusher--I've played several pacifist or near pacifist games.

Scotty might be no-cash. He wouldn't buy in that same game I sold to the other three starting minors. I only just found him since my last post here. If Scotty is the only minor who won't buy, would that then be a bug of a different color?

In my last game, a huge rare maso, the Alexians and Scottilingas both traded cash when they had it (like the beginning). Neither the Carinoids or Kwilasians (who convert eventually to I-League every game) gave me more than 2 bc over 20 turns. On another huge map the Alexians and Carinoids traded cash a few times until they went broke. So it seems one or two minors trade cash most of the time and the most likely are the Alexians. I just figured this out for maso a few games ago too. And to think of all the times I sat there on gigantic maso with my budget on -500 bc waiting for my trade to pick up. Oh I feel so slow on the uptake sometimes. :D

Is this cash for tech with Alexians on maso a 1.11 thing? Does map size make a difference since the number of starting minors goes down with smaller maps?

I did too... I'd probably never have figured it out if it wasn't posted.

*shrug* It could have been there throughout 1.10 and I would never have known.

Damn! I should eavesdrop on you two more often! I just thought they'd never sell to you, so I didn't bother trying... :(

Oh, and vincible...thanks for warming my seat, you can slip back down to your usual place now... ;p

I am in between football games while my digital video recorder records the next game. Man, my Seattle Seahawks dropped passes and got penalties until they mercifully lost. Don't shed tears, I saw some great games yesterday and there is still more on today and tomorrow. :D

I just read the Jedi Republic Thread after not looking at it for a week. I had already caught up on the ANZAC thread after Cotal left that empire and ANZAC is no more although BlueSteel/Smeagol is our guest as long as he wishes. :)

Anyway, I thought I should thank the Fellowship right now for not having a meltdown when Cotal left us. Putting Cotal in the honorary FotR status along with others who temporarily resided here and being mellow when persons decide to split Ringville has made the Fellowship a very friendly place. Most of that friendly atmosphere is due to Emperor Ray with great support from Theoden and vinicible and others too - some who seemed to have retired, darn it. I still have tips from Gengsta around here. I picked FotR long ago when FotR was getting hammered by GROSS. GROSS did beat us to 1 million - darn pirates ;)

I play a non-military style so figured I couldn't be a pirate plus the pirates were number 1 so I joined the number 2 empire to compete. The party palace empire didn't exist back then either, so for those of us who don't use military combat to win, FotR was a natural home. I got really lucky to pick a stable empire like the FotR, the members have been very nice, and this has been my only empire. OK it's off to 3 million . . . tomorrow. There's more football on now. :D

Awww... group hug everybody! :) I too appreciate this empire a lot more after seeing the turmoil out there.

Finished off another 50K game, and actually lost points due to the odd monthly blocks. Oh well, it'll pay off in the long run. I guess catching that Wombat will have to wait a day or two.

You know, I've just never figured that process out. It's silly - you should be back ahead of me. I keep wondering if there's some incredibly sophisticated way of planning my games - you know, just submit on the second Thursday of every month when the moon is full - but I cant be bothered after all this time. Ah well... :)

It's called a spreadsheet.....

vincible,

You are right about the monthly blocks affecting your score. With your last submission, your 3rd monthly block (between 60-90days) became zero due to that six weeks in Aug/Sep where you didn't submit a game. That period of inactivity will basically slow you down periodically.

vincible,

I need a zipped copy of the .sav file cause everytime I try to download it in hotmail, it opens up as text instead. I guessing it's because it is just 54bytes.

Good morning, Ringfolk! Back from my little trip, and let me say I'm glad to be back. What a terrible trip! I had hotel problems, restaurant problems, and boring meetings. I've never been so glad to be back to work! LOL

It'll take me quite a while to catch up on everything I've missed and work doesn't seem to be giving me the chance to do that. I see that I dropped out of the Top 25 again, but last night I started a Large/Maso so hopefully I can work my way back soon.

I was really excited to see 1.12 is due out soon. I don't have too many bad things to say about 1.11 but it's always nice to see some minor bugs fixed.

Hope everybody has a great Monday! :HOT:

This is a message from Matthew forwarded to me and I am forwarding it to youas he asked me:

"Dear players, I am sitting right now in the shores of the beautiful beach of Huikiki in the southern coast of Hawaii. Please do not feel bad for my lack of response to your cries for me to join your team, my heart it's already made, when I returned from my voluntary reclusion I am going to join the Jedi Republic, but still that will take some time. I have quite a few things to work out first, such as what to do with my 2 tonns of beer and smoked sausage that I have stored in my bungalow and other foods items that I must dispose first, so I believe that in a couple of years I will respond your e-mails."
"Thank you to you my dear friend Mayito for your help in finding this peace of Paradise for me."

PS: I have invited couple of friends to come to visit me, one is T** of *** and the other one is R** the W***

So if you see them disappear from action you know where to find them, I just finished feeding my pets sharks with the remains of Amidala.

Vincible: if I remember correctly you only need to alter game.galaxy. Also, be sure you don't 'X' out the ENTIRE serial. Leave "GC1" in there, as well as the first two letters of the serial.

It should work after that.

I have a spreadsheet set up to measure the scores (and compare them with the meta!). I can save endgames and (currently by trial and error) work out how to submit them at the most advantageous time!

Yeah, but the best planning of all can't correct the sabotage of children. I played 8 maso games last week taking me from somewhere in the 70's on the player list to #19. WooHoo! Only to find right after that, my son "accidentally" submitted a 2k Cakewalk game that dropped me 2 spots!!!

LOL

It wasn't a problem before, because he would only play against one or two AI's - I don't know what gave him the idea to play against all 5 majors - thus creating a valid game to submit. Hmmmmmm.

Oh well, it was a fun week anyway. Now if I could figure out a way to get him a Stardock account to submit his own games with . . .

I'm only about 200 messages or so late in responding to the kind welcome, duh.

To whomever asked, I'm no relation to Mike Casey.

I'm also teetering on the edge of senility, so can someone tell me, does the nice robot who tells you about the tech you've just discovered appear in some other game, or did I play Galciv in some parallell universe?

Jack LEagle

I'd have a bigger score, but Metaverse doesn't accept names with ' in them.

Amazing! And I thought I was obsessive-compulsive....hey, good luck with it! :)

Hi Jack L'Eagle!

If you mean that exact robot, then i don't know. There were other games where they had robots or scientists announcing techs, though--MOO2 for instance.

And leave the dashes too, I assume. This didn't work for me.

If you need help on getting e107 around for the FOTR site, let me know when you can get on the IRC channel. Figuring things out would go alot quicker that way. :)
