The Fellowship Halls (Fellowship of the Ring Empire Thread)

Welcome to the Fellowship of the Ring Empire Thread - The Sequel. :)

The old FotR thread was getting too big and it was taking too long to load the thread, thus this new one.

Since this is the first post, I will reproduce some of the more important links for our Empire.

I don't remember ever choosing Uncreative in Moo2. I liked picking the "Too ugly to be diplomatic" racial pick though. I find I could do without diplomacy without much problems.

That would be quite difficult in Maso Galciv.

Actually, I thought of playing Galciv with one or more of these house rules - No diplomacy, No starbases, No military. As I said before, these three areas are the most exploitable.

Steve: Yeah. :)

Well, I thought of a way to freshen things up for my Galciv gaming. I've been playing unmodded for a very long time now. With the new Mods functionalities in 1.l2, I think I will go download lots of mods and play them.

Hey everybody! Just dropping in for my daily GalCiv fix. Had a really busy weekend and didn't play GalCiv at all. As a matter of fact...

I'm going to be taking a little break from GalCiv for a while. I'm going to go back to Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor for a while. I need a vacation I'm thinking.

I'm definitely not giving up on GalCiv and will probably try to knock out a game here and there. I just don't want to burn out on the game, and I'm feeling a little burned right now...

I'll still be in the forums and such. I do this from work and why would I want to work? LOL I'll also be writing the Metaverse Review, although this week is Thanksgiving week in the US so I might be a little scarce around here this week. Anyway, just thought you'd all like to know.

Just for giggles, I've added a Flash intro to the website (http://fotr.galciv.org)

Hope everyone likes it. :)

Unfortunately, it's part of the Flash, so you can't grab it. Sorry. It is a cool dragon, though...

If you ever played the Klackons, they were the uncreative race. Instead of choosing 1 from all the choices at each level of tech, it gave you only 1 (chosen at random) from the list. Of course, the creative race (Psilons) automatically got all techs in each category)

The bad thing about Moo2 was it was pretty much a race to Stellar Converter. It was the doomsday weapon and really had no counter. It was even better than the black hole generator in moo1 because unlike the hole (that you had to endure fire from enemy ships and get right up next to em to use) you could sit back not move and bwoooooooosh... destroy everyting in sight.

In moo1 you still had to make tough weapons choices even with Death Ray Tech as they all had size and cost strengths and weaknesses.

Or just Alt-PrtSc to copy the whole browser window to your clipboard, go to MS Paint, and paste a copy of your browser in. Select and copy the dragon, and paste this into a new Paint window. Set the picture attribute size to 350x350, save, and select "Set as wallpaper".

If you have a better photo editor than Paint, this is even easier. Paste into the editor, crop out everything but the dragon, save.

The Metaverse Review is updated!

http://metaversereview.joeuser.com

Headlines Include:

~ Nothing Going On
~ Special Forces' Special Logo
~ Weekly Spotlight Empire

And More!

Note: The Metaverse Review is going to start highlighting Top 5 empires. This is against normal policy, but to be fair will extend to the other Top 5 empires in coming weeks.

That cute picture says it all Theoden, great job writing about things in the absence of any drama . . .

Wow,

Again the metaverse review neglects to mention the fall of the once mighty Apolyton Empire from the top 10, and the ascendency of the mighty new Realms Beyond Empire :P.

Ummm...defeating an empire with only one active overlord didn't seem like a huge conquest. Sorry. I have mentioned Realms Beyond in previous Reviews and expect to again, but I can't mention everybody in every article. :notsure:

My sabatical in Myth Drannor is going nicely. I really love that game, it's just so dang slow moving. It takes so long to travel anywhere until you access some of the exits. Still, there's nothing like wiping out large quantities of undead! :D

It's amazing that every little pipsqueek that passes a dead empire wants top billing.

I like the Flash Theoden, and I love your MR pics as always.

It looks like my GOTM file got corrupted somehow... I replaced the original game.galaxy file (with the correct serial number) and it still won't work. I wonder how I screwed up. I'm really not feeling any motivation to work on it though... I think I need a bit of a vacation from Galciv entirely.

vincible,

I think we're all feeling a little fatigue here lately. Take a break and find your mojo in another game for a while. I'm hacking through Myth Drannor looking for that damn Pool for a while. For a real mind-blower, I played the original Pool of Radiance (anybody remember Phlan?) on my C-64 and loved it! This one is more fancy-shmancy, but still lots of fun.

I'll keep an eye out on Special Forces and if they get too close, I'll start up the ole GalCiv engine again. :)

Well now that Ray, Vincible, and Theoden have admitted it, I guess it is OK to admit that I also have been taking a break from Gal Civ. In addition to the real life busy things, I am mostly watching football games and movies and playing spades (card game) online. Wow! The Blues Brothers is a great movie (made around 1980?). Check it out. :D

After 82 posted games, fleet admiral, a few 60k games, and the Fellowship reaching 3 million points, I am having trouble convincing myself to start a new game.:SURPRISED:

Hopefully that will change soon but I have played this game pretty steadily for 6 months, which is a testimony to what a cool game Gal Civ is. I look forward to the new expansion pack and still find the forum lots of fun. Happy holidays everyone. :)

Hello. My name is ricbayer. And I'm taking a vacation from Galactic Civilizations.

~Everyone in the rooms in unison~

"Hi, Rick!"

~Rick smiles~

I've been addicted for 6 months. I'm willing to start the twelve step process for withdrawal.

Number One: Watch football
Number Two: Watch movies
Number Three: Play other games
Number Four: Admit you have a problem
Number Five - Eleven: Drink some beer
Number Twelve: Think about Galactic Civilizations

~Everyone in unison~

"NOOOOOOO!!!! Number Twelve is eat lots of chips and sleep more!!"

My fellow Fellowship members:

Don't worry about the empire. Just because the Council is taking a bit of a rest doesn't signal impending doom or anything. We're just taking a breather. I, for one, am probably going to still get in a couple of games every once in a while. So, don't freak out and quit on us! :HOT:

I know that feeling, Theoden and ricbayer. Took a nice game break myself, with a period where I was only putting in about a game a month for three months due to various things. But this is a cool game, my batteries recharged and my workload eased a bit, so I am back to playing pretty fiercely again. A little rest did me a load of good. Ironically, I have only bought one computer game since I got Galciv back in March, and I haven't even played it that much. Highly unusual for a person who normally gets 4 to 6 games a year. It is almost like my Civ I days way back when, where that was the only game I was playing for months as well. :)

I think by the time some other empire manages to crack 3 million (should be a few weeks), I'll be ready to fight again!

My guess is I'll be stopping video games entirely, and spending my time reading science fiction. But we'll see.

Muhahahahah....yes, the bioweapon released into the Fellowship water supply is having the desired effect. The poor fools dont even know what is happening....vincible is already overjoyed with sixth place...before he realises it, he'll be thrilled with seventh.

Your doom is upon you..... ;p ;) LOL LOL LOL

I think it's cool that many of us old-timers are taking breaks. Else I don't see how we can last till GC:AP.

I'm currently having fun with Age of Wonders 2: Shadow Magic.

Guess I wouldn't be playing much Galciv for a while.
