Welcome to the Fellowship of the Ring Empire Thread - The Sequel. :)

The old FotR thread was getting too big and it was taking too long to load the thread, thus this new one.

Good morning everyone. I it is still dark for some of you. I hope you have a good day ahead. I do since I don't work tomorrow :CONGRAT:

Very interesting discussion everyone. Keep talking, I'm taking notes! ;)

Nastavnik>> Feel free to email me if you wish to talk off line about anything. I think you and I play at about the same levels and such. I can check the email from work also... it is Email
End of quote

Thanks Terl. you have email, by the way.

Of late I don't build ANY military.. quite happy to pay the tribute as I'm normally at 100% spend with surplus coming in and keep all the civ's at friendly...

I tried that once, got invaded. One AI tried that in my last game, didn't work either: I invaded them.
I guess I'm not skilled enough to pull this off... yet.

That's my best, but always under 3 hours..
End of quote

I agree that's amazing. Once I managed to do a tiny game within that time table. The AI does manage it too (when against me): the time i tried to play without military, within 1 or 2 hours I was wiped out by some AI (it was so fast I didn't even noticed who it was...) :(

Since AP seems to be working fine, I decided to start another game in it --and I read a post from Cari somewhere saying that there might be another update soon*--, rather than continuing (for now) the gigantic I had started under 1.13 (but I think I'll go back to it later). I like the crowded galaxy. :)

*: I checked, it's in the AP beta 2 bug report thread. :CONGRAT: :CONGRAT: :CONGRAT: .

Well, I tried a maso small rare last night and got my arse kicked! Therefore I propose we completely overhaul the metaverse into 35 categories and 165 subdivisions ;)

Seriously, I am not ready for that yet! I went back to challenging. Less stressful :) and more fun which is what I like anyway.

I'll practice, practice, practice though. I'll get it soon :)

Il looks like we're fighting the same fight ;)
I'm looking forward to this evening, hopefully I'll be able to play, and tomorrow morning too, before reallife quicks in for a few hours (administration problems, but conquering the galaxy later on will be revenge enough I guess :) )

Another fine morning here in Middle Earth! :D

Hope everyone had a good night (or whatever time period you have just experienced in the last 12 hours!) LOL

Great discussion going on in this thread! I find it fascinating how so many people have different strategies that they employ to kick aliens around the galaxy! Hey, whatever works for you!

Wombie: Maybe I should try Medium again. It's been a while since I tried, so I might last a little longer now.

I've still not been able to play a game with no military, but as I am pretty militaristic anyway, I doubt I'll ever accomplish that!

The fastest game I've played lasted about an hour. I think it was a Small/Maso and I sort of got a little invasion happy. I finished the game so fast, I only scored around 9000 points! I've attempted to tone down my invasion addiction a bit since then... :notsure:

Work looks sort of busy this morning, so I'll check the forum when I can. Hopefully, this afternoon will be a little more free! :HOT:

Cool, my speed is ok. I lost in an hour but only got 318 points :) Needless to say, I did not post it... I have got to work on my GalCiv skill set obviously.

No it is not. You won did you not? :) Me? I got wiped out by the Yor....

:D

Very true!

By the way, I have a very bad hatred of the Yor. Ever since they cleaned my clock several Painful games, I've held a grudge against them. I take particular pleasure in dismantling them and sending each piece of them into a different sun. I have instructed my scientists to ensure their pain synapses have been maintained as they begin melting. The more pain I can inflict on the Yor, the better!

Ahem...um...sorry. Sort of drifted into an evil zone there...

Nope, you won. I have two losses that awarded me 4 points each :notsure: . And lately the times I was wiped out in the first 50 turns I didn't submit. But since I already have 2 very humbling losses submitted, the next three I have, I'll submit them, so I have the wounded in battle medal. In some games, it really felt like I earned the right to have it :)

Hmmm, if they run on Windows, we could always wait until they shut down after their updates for the manadatory restart and catch 'em unawares....

If they run on windows I guess they're themselves their worst enemy and I'll never worry about them again! And I won't be buying any trade goods/techs from them either.

(stops to think about all possibilities that implies)

On the other hand, if they run under windows you might get to see their fleet attack you for no apparent reason, and when asked why did you attack, they will say, we didn't meant to. We were aiming at your neighbours, the (someone who is around) but we had a system bug in our navigation sensors...

I'm certain the Yor are running some Microsoft software. That's where they got that "Dominate the Galaxy" mentality. It has nothing to do with the Dark Arnor!

But, gee, wouldn't that be more through trade restrictions and lawsuits rather than battleships? :) "This Death Knight has performed an illegal operation and will now be shut down."

It looks like FotR lost about 250K points since yesterday! It doesn't appear that we lost any members. Does anybody know what's going on? :notsure: At this rate, we'll be below 3mil in a day or two! :sniff!:

It's probably nothing more than a Metaverse-wide recalc. It happens occasionally...I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Score degradation is sort of scary, isn't it? :notsure:
Greldon,

Amulekbird has posted this in another thread:

"The actual way your score is calculated is the total score earned per month divided by the number of games per month. You have played six games and have scored 15,562 pts. 15,562/sqrt(6)=6,353. That is why your score is what it is.

Each month, for six months, the score for the previous month degrades by 5%, so on Feb. 25 for you, this months score will go down by 5%, but then your new games will be added to your score separately by the rule described above. "

I guess this explains that...

Not exactly. The changes to score only kick in when a new game is submitted; e.g., if you haven't posted a game since December 24th, the score for that game (and the ones previous to it) does not take the 5% (or higher) month hit until you post a game after January 23rd (or so-->30days after)).

There must be something else at work here.
So if many members submitted games in the last, say, 10 days, that might explain some of the decrease, no?

No, what I'm saying is occasionally the Metaverse goes through a forced recalc. Basically, whether scores are posted or not, the recalc affects everyone. This means players who haven't submitted a score in a while will have their scores degraded. This is where a lot of the points went.
Not really. It is unusual for a submitted game to LOWER your score, unless the game score is well below the average score for your current 30-day block (e.g., you have ten 60k masos, and submit a 5k crippling score, the score for your current block would go from
60*10/sqrt(10)= 189.7k to
(60k*10+5k)/sqrt(11) = 182.4k).

I doubt that any FotR folks are submitting games that far below their current 30-day average. Even if they were, the 250k decrease is too high for that to be the cause. Must be something in the metaverse update that will likely shake out in the next day or so.
