Game crashes randomly

Galactic Civilizations crashes randomly. Sometimes it happens in menu, sometimes when a ship is being moved, etc. I have even formatted my harddisk and installed new drivers to everything on my computer. The game just gets stuck and nothing works. It doesn't jump to desktop nor does the screen go black. It usually crashes within five minutes.

GalCiv is naturally updated

My computer:
AMD Duron 800
Geforce 2 GTS(using the newest detonators)
SB Live! Valua(using the newest LiveWare)
128 mb of central memory
Direct X 9.0b(The DX on game cd won't install, so I had to download it from Microsoft)

Try running defrag on your harddrive.Usually after a fresh load programs are scattered thruout the drive.I had random crashes until I defragged.

What os are you using?If XP, microsoft has patch for freezing games under the updates section.On the pick updates to install look under the second heading on the left under the critical updates,then look at list for the one about freezing after intro videos played.

Tao Tao

Is the nick TAO TAO from the chinese conquest game "romance the stone"?The one with Lui Bu and Cao CAo and others?

My nick Tao_Tao comes from an animation series called surprisingly "Tao Tao". Tao Tao is a little panda bear, whose mother tells him edjucational stories.

I don't know if Tao Tao has anything to do with that chinese conquest name. Tao is, of course, related to chinese religion Taoism.

Also, if you have any media player programs other than Windows Media Player installed, like WinDVD, you could have some buggy sound codecs on your system.  If you install SmartException from the Free stuff tab on Stardock Central, it will generate a crash log called GalCiv.exe.cra.  If it's being caused by a buggy codec, it usually reports which file it is, and then you can remove it.  You can send crash logs to me at [email protected].  Your dxdiag report may also be helpful.
