MacJaws
Three witches on the moors
Killa stirred the pot.
“When shall we three meet again? In thunder lightning or in rain?”
Harel pursed his lips. “When Hurley’s done, when the battles lost and won”.
“Where the place?” asked Ginata.
“Outside the cafe”.
“There to meet with MacJaws”.
“I thought he was Jaws?” said Ginata.
“Yea well, MacJaws sounds more sophisticated somehow…”
“Since when did a Scots name sound sophisticated?”
“Aw come on, you know what trouble you got into knocking Denmark…”
“And Jaws is English!”
“Ha. My intelligence has it that he has Scottish ancestry on his mother’s side”.
“Mmmm. He keeps that secret”.
“Well hello…”
After the Battle
Jaws wiped his brow. The last game had been tough. Very tough. Yet, never in doubt. Jaws fingers had caressed the keyboard as if it was… a David Jones wine catalogue. He finally stretched and cracked his knuckles. He went outside for a breath of fresh air- Sydney air- which meant Air of the Gods, for Sydney was heaven on earth for those lucky enough to live there.
He turned to Hurley who was lounging on a bench having a smoke. “So foul and fair a day I have not seen. Melbourne weather really”.
Hurley looked perplexed. “I’m sorry?”
Jaws threw his fins in the air. “My accent’s not that thick. Indeed my relatives think I sound like an Aussie!”
“You wish. And look Jaws. What are these?” Jaws and Hurley stared at the three witches (or one witch and two warlocks really). Hurley said, “So withered and wild in their attire. They do not look like inhabitants of this earth and yet they are on it”.
Jaws approached the witches: “Speak! If you can - What are you?”
Killa: “All hail, MacJaws, hail to thee silver medallist”.
Harel: “All hail, MacJaws, hail to thee gold medallist”.
Ginata: “All hail, MacJaws, that shalt be Leader of the Special Forces hereafter”.
Jaws stumbled away in a state of shock. Hurley looked at Jaws confused: “Good fish, why do you seem to fear things that sound so fair?” He turned to the witches. “Wicked sisters, to Jaws you talk of fortunes and to me you speak not. If you can look into the seeds of time and say which grain will grow and which will not, speak then to me”.
Killa: “All hail, Hurley, lesser than Jaws and greater”.
Harel: “All hail, Hurley, not so happy, yet much happier”.
Ginata: “All hail, Hurley, you shall be father to many medallists but you will not be a medallist”.
The witches suddenly vanished. Hurley turned to Jaws. “Mate! Should we speak about such matters or have we gone mad?”
Jaws chuckled, somewhat madly “Mad? Ha! Your children shall be medallists!”
Hurley shook his head: “You shall be Leader of the Special Forces hereafter!"
Both laughed, and then looked thoughtful, and then laughed again, only more loudly.
Lady MacJaws
Later, Jaws gf hugged Jaws happily: “Oh great Leader of the Special Forces hereafter!” They held their hug for a little bit, slightly crazily.
After the hug, Jaws took a deep breath and put his cup of tea down. “Wild Wombat comes tonight”.
“And when will he leave?”
“Tomorrow as he purposes”.
“O never shall sun that morrow see!"
Jaws looked shocked. Lady MacJaws grimaced. “My Lord. Thy face is as a book. To beguile the time, look like the time. Seem like the innocent rose, but be the serpent under it”.
Jaws grinned then: “Oh you are awful. We will talk further”.
And indeed, the next day, Wild met Jaws and Hurley, and little did Wild suspect what hideous fate awaited him.
Note: Have a peaceful dinner Wild! Watch out for those daggers. And this story is based on, uh...
Jaws: thanks for the idea!
