GalCiv for a laugh :)

OK, so I'm home and bored, and it's not enough that I browse the forum while at work, but also when I'm here LOL but I thought I'd share one of those amusing alien comments with you... Feel free to add your faves... hehe :)

"Ah, our human friends. We hope you received our gift, a big red bouncing ball. Did you bounce the ball? We felt that such entertainments would amuse your kind"

Oh, I am trying to remember it exactly, but sometimes an annoyed Drengin will say something like "What do you want now? I am trying to watch a big game." :)

I must admit that I can't think of a hilarious one, but I know I have one or two favourites.

Though I feel compelled to mention that Natro Mancer always seems to be an idiot no matter *what* you set his intelligence to.

Alien warmonger bad guy threatening Humanity's powerful trade empire: Give us X amount of money or we kill you!

You: I think not. Humans have been annihilating one another for aeons, if you'd like to join the party, go ahead.

Two favorites:
I like the one when you're evil and another evil empire asks you to help defend your mutal tortue-loved ways.

My other favorite is the one where you get accussed of acting unilaterally when you refuse to give in to a tribute demand.

Netro_mancer when he's winning the war: "We have studied your culture. I think the phrase to use now would be to say, we are most definitely kicking your ass."

I like it when the Dregin guy sends me a big virtual hug for being more evil than him.

um how about they add this one "Hi im the guy with the big terror star parked outside. how do you feel about surrendering?" cause in the game the stupid ai's wont go for peace when you have a great big terror star or three parked in orbit. :D

I always quite liked the comment on the 'Evolutionary Control' tech...

"Darwin, Smarwin! Why take chances!"

I like this one, too ("Near Omniscience" tech): "We've finally uncovered the secret to the popularity of Britney Spears in the early 21st century so you know we're close to understanding all there is to know." :)

We at the PanGaea Cooperative have a real appreciation for more hedonistic, less commercial music. Britney looks very frumpy compared to our top trained Altarian Slave Vocalists, for example. ;)

No other empire has them trained to such high levels of audio and visual beauty as the PanGaean's...

Any warlords who join us will be given some as a present, if you wish. They come in male, female and hermaphrodite, and we have them in Human, Altarian, Android and Genetically Created.

Yea, we tried to find a good mix between fun and serious. Too often, these kinds of games take themselves too seriously. At the same time, we didn't want the game to be campy. Hopefully we found a good middle ground.

I think you did.

What I really like is that the game quite blatently spoofs practically every major sci-fi film or series ever made. Especially amusing is the 'morality event' that is blatently talking about pokemon... :HOT:

Ha! I liked the Britney reference . . . wonder if she's ever played GC, she'd either be flattered or you guys would have a lawsuit on your hands (j/k . . . I doubt she playes GC, or if so at shes never mentioned it too me before) . . .

I also like the "you are wiping the galactic floor with us" which the Altarians sent to me last night after I took out most of their fleet.

(C0ntrolled Wormholes): "A limited controlled wormhole has been built. Though the theoretical basis for this wormhole is unknown, engineers have been able to recreate solely from watching old reruns of Deep Space Nine. The size of this wormhole and the lack of a theoretical basis on which to enlarge it and direct it, limits this technology to research." :)

No, Brad, it's not too campy. I enjoy the fact that GalCiv doesn't take itself too seriously.

Stu,

Maybe you aren't reading the description text when choosing techs to research? Or their exact words when engaging in diplomacy. I know it can be easy to click on a tech without reading its description, just looking at the improvements and future techs.

And in diplomacy, as long as the text is green its easy to gloss over what they actually say. But its worth taking the time and effort though, because otherwise you miss a few gems... :HOT:
