We need your help!

Stardock are looking to add new medals to the metaverse ranking!

How you can help

We need for you to come up with some new names and graphics for these medals. Please decide on the name for the medal  and a new graphic, and submit it to me along with a 20x20 gif image of the chosen medal. Please keep in mind that these medals will be for the entire metaverse.

Images of the medals and their names will be available for viewing at the following address http://files.galciv.org/medals.html

Once a reasonable amount of submissions have been made, then the team at Stardock will choose the ones to add to the metaverse.

Please spread the word about this to all the members of your empires.

Well after slaving over hot pixels for the past half hour or so I've sent off medals for the top 3 good/neutral/evil as well as a new contender for the mod-submission medal. Hope they get picked ;)

All of them are in 20x20 gif format as asked, although I noticed later that the dither seems to have fudged the plain grey background with a bit of noise, but it's nothing that visible at normal size... ;)

This is a specialized world. Why would Stardock want to combine medal ideas with graphics? Let the best idea people forward the best ideas, and the best graphics people submit new graphics. Demanding both at once may get you neither at top quality.


I'm an idea man, so let me present a few ideas.


1) Champion of the Light - Player holds a position in the top 25 "Good Players"

1a) Defender of the Light - Player holds a position between 26 and 100 among Good Players


2) Secretary of the United Planets - Player holds a position in the top 25 "Neutral Players"

2a) United Planets Special Envoy - Player holds a position between 26 and 100 among Neutral Players


3) Chief of Secret Police - Player holds a position in the top 25 "Evil Players"

3a) Secret Police Interrogator - Player holds a position between 26 and 100 among Evil players.


4) Logistics Champion - Player holds a position in the top 25 of either Huge or Gigantic maps overall standings.

4a) Logistics Expert - Player holds a position between 26 and 100 on overall standings for Huge or Gigantic maps, and is not currently rated as Logistics Champion.


5) Strategic Champion - Player holds a position in the top 25 of either Medium or Large maps overall standings.

5a) Strategic Expert - Player holds a position between 26 and 100 on overall standings for Medium or Large maps, and is not currently rated as Strategic Champion.


6) Tactical Champion - Player holds a position in the top 25 of either Tiny or Small maps overall standings.

6a) Tactical Expert - Player holds a position between 26 and 100 on overall standings for Tiny or Small maps, and is not currently rated as Tactical Champion.


7) Galactic Medal of Valor - Player has submitted at least ten wins apiece for all six map sizes.

8) Political Ribbon - Player has submitted at least three wins apiece utilizing all standard political parties. (Perhaps a second tier of the award for doing this in Maso games).

9) Campaign Ribbon - Player has submitted wins for all of the ten new scenarios with Metaverse tracking. (Perhaps a second tier of the award for doing this in Maso games).

10) Victory Ribbon - Player has submitted at least ten wins apiece for each type of victory condition.



There, a few ideas to chew over. :) I have even more, although some of my ideas would require additional variables to be tracked.

Just submitted "Distinguished Service Medal" Bronze For 50 Games submitted, Silver for 100 & Gold for 200+.

Although my artistic skills leave alot to be desired! :notsure:

Ben there is no rush. expect it to run for at least a couple of weeks. or until there are no more submissions. All the time people are putting forward ideas and medals it will continue.

As a "piss poor scorer", I'd like to see the following medals awarded:
Lowest Score for 1 Week
All Time High Score
Drengin Net User
Altarian Prophecy Tester

And how about top 10's each week for each skill category? That way you wouldn't have to worry about making scoring harder or easier based on a person's scoring ability.

Another idea would be to use something similar to following to grid to create overall categories:

GALAXY SIZE
massive(5) 5 10 15 20 25 30 35
large(4) 4 8 12 16 20 24 28
medium(3) 3 6 9 12 15 18 21
small(2) 2 4 6 8 10 12 14
tiny(1) 1 2 3 4 5 6 7

difficulty moron(1) sub-normal(2) retard(3) normal(4) smart(5) genius(6) maso(7)

Offer three group categories: voyeur(1-10), mainstream(12 - 18), masochist(22 - up)
