What year do you usually win/lose by?

When you finish a game of Galactic Civilizations, what game year does it tend to be on?

I don't usually keep track of the date, but the current EndGameSave I have is a medium/common alliance victory in April 2195.

Just a suggestion but could you alter the metaverse submit so that it sends the final game year as well, it sends lot of other info and this would only be a small alteration for the next patch maybe?

Somewhere between 2190 and 2200, unless I go for a tech win. Of course, I don't post such games to the metaverse since they are... Well you probably know about them ;)

I haven't got any idea. You should really put this in the data sent to metaverse. If I can bring more info on the game to make it better, I'd submit games again.

Btw, the starting date is so arbitrary that I absolutely never look at the date. If it started in say 2300, it would be easy to check "we're in 2304 so it's been 4 years or about 50 turns since I started playing" but with the current date, which I can't remember, it's pretty hard to know. CtP2 (and probably other games) let you switch from game time to number of turns and vice versa in game.

Don't know, never check. Date just isn't important to me.

I almost always play Masochistic, 5 Incredible AI's, default alignments, all victory conditions enabled. I vary map size, habitability, star cluster density, political party, and bonus abilities. Yet through all this variation, my games usually end between 2195 and 2205. The AI's always pursue the military techs, chasing the capital ships. If they don't keep up with the other AI's, they will get wiped out. I can usually stay out of most wars, though, and branch off into the rest of the tech tree, grab all the middle-game and late game wonders and trade goods, build my population, economy, and morale, try to poach some of the resources when AI-on-AI war shakes things up, and then when the late game arrives, head for the most convenient victory condition, usually alliance, sometimes culture or military.

I could shave some time off my average finish date, by a lot in some cases, but fast finishes are penalized in the scoring. And even though I try not to let scoring dictate my gameplay, the fast finish penalty is almost as harsh as the tech win penalty, so I feel I HAVE TO milk the score a bit on games where I could have ended it very early, to get a fair showing for my effort. I usually play through most or all of the wonders and into the late tech tree. Tech wins take longer than other win types, usually ending between 2205 and 2225.

The higher the habitability rating, the faster the game ends. JaxomCA tends to play more Abundant maps than I do, and larger average maps. I play a goodly share of Occasional and Uncommon maps, and a lot of medium galaxy games, and the smaller maps and lower average fertility accounts for most of the five-year difference in our average finish dates, I believe.

my average maso win goes to at least 2230 and as late as 2285

I'm slow but thouough.. at the end most of my planets have everything.. (and I do mean everything) all resources are mine.. all map explored and every planet pq12 or above is colonized.. After all when I move onto conqure the next galaxy I don't want any nasty suprises gomming from behind...

Well,
I thought I was a slow player, but now I wonder if I'm not even slower than I thought.
I play medium only this far (I mean, most of my games). If I loose, I do so in the first 50 turns. If I win, I think I isually get way past 2220 (I don't know why O have this figure in mind, I guess I don't check the date much beyond that point: if I'm alive by then, I'm usually just passing turns in order to win.

sorry to mislead... I play Gigantic maso tight rare all ai's set to the highest level..

The length of my games mostly depends on the habitability (i always play Maso either Huge or Gigantic).

Rare normally ends around 2202-4 and common around 2220

Having played "large" or smaller maps only:

* For difficulty level below Maso: all games won before 2200, sometimes before 2190. Mostly Alliance victories.

* First impression from a few Maso games: Games end later, around 2200.

(I have not yet achieved any Beyond Human victory, however...)

My only true loss (medium Maso) was in Dez 2198.

Hmm, I should have specified that 2190-2200 is for a gigantic map with rare habitables setting doing a military conquest. It would most certainly be longer with a more populated galaxy.

Here's some ranges:
2188-2192 for mediums and smaller
2192-2198 for large
Much longer for bigger maps...

I am amazed that everyone seems so close as far as finishing games.

My end between 2195-2205 (My latest Gigantic/rare/maso win ended in 2202).
Yes, always 2195-2205 (I play mostly gigantic, habitability rare).
2188-2192 for mediums and smaller
End of quote

i had a look and agree with this....

I play gigantic/rare/tight/maso/military with all AIs set to incredible, and usually win around 2205 (when I win), give or take 5 years. When I play with common habitables it usually takes about 7 to 10 years longer. I've never played with abundant habitables on gigantic, since I'd probably die of old age before I could complete the game. ;)
