How to turn off random events?

How do you turn off random events?
I just got that damn annoying event where all uncolonized planets in a radius of 2 sectors from a certain planet get their quality raised by a certain amount (in this case 11). I was playing on a tiny galaxy with "rare" habitable planets. There were only 8 good planets which were alle colonized and that was exactly the way I wanted it. I don't want a lot of planets to manage when the game can be just as fun with only a few (actually more fun).
As you can understand that random event totally screwed up the game by making many more planets habitable.
I can't handle that many planets and it would destroy the delicate balance of power in the galaxy. I had to quit a perfectly good game because of this and it isn't the first time this has happened. I hate that event.
I usually like random events but this is just to devastating.

What's so hard about handling a few more planets? Thats what governors are for...

You can't turn off random events. Unless you delete all the events from your harddisk. Or you could also delete that particular event from the events file.

It's a good idea to have autosave working.
If you feel that the event is screwing up your game, reload.

You don't have to delete the files, necessarily. You could just disable them by changing their names slightly. For example, change CoreEvents.event to x_CoreEvents.event, and the game won't be able to read from it anymore. If you ever want to turn the events back on, just get rid of your prefix. It's the same method you would use to disable the intro movies.

Hm, some of the events are hardcoded -- if memory serves, the .event files (of which there's more than the core one; it probably reads everything with that suffix, disregarding case) only encode the morality/decision-making events. In other words, this isn't one you can disable.

I think I will just use the autosave... good idea, thanks.

It will still read them with that change. You need to change the extention, not the filename.

Incidentally, every time the game is updated via the SDC, it will redownload the events if they've been deleted, moved, or renamed.
