Altarian Prophecy (Beta) Bug Reports

Please specify which version of the beta you are using. You will probably be told to upgrade if you are using an older version.

Please install and run SmartException from the free stuff tab in Stardock Central so that if the beta crashes, it will generate a report that you can send to me with your debug.err files and save games.

Please update the non-expansion part of Gal Civ if you haven't, but please note that your save games will be messed up because of the additional improvements.

I will want any save games that reproduce bugs, particularly crashes.  Save games in Altarian prophecy are only one file, no folders.  Go ahead and e-mail them to me along with a description of how to reproduce the bug.  You can still report the bug here, but I always take save games that reproduce the bug.

Please report typos in the typo thread.  String Not Found bugs are not typos.  When you see a string not found, send me your debug.err file before starting a new game.

Please give as much detail as possible when reporting bugs so that I can reproduce it more easily.

CariElf I removed that key, but still I am getting the same message about not being able to post games, any other idea what we can do, I was trying to resubmit the same game that I sent before removing the key.

I just got AP last night. In playing my first test game I noticed that after awhile my Survey Ships stop going after anomolies. There are a bunch of them laying around, but they just ignore them. They also frequently ignore close by anomolies and go somewhere else. I'm sure someone has probably mentioned this before, but I can't possibly read every single message, so sorry for that. Is there any fix for this in the works, or do I just have to keep sending them on surveys manually?

Cari -

Did you ever find a Win98SE box to test the Scenario Editor on? I'm still unable to create my own scenarios or edit existing ones per our email exchange 2/3/04 - 2/6/04.

Scenario Editor refuses to save any scenario files I create. What I mean to say, is that I save the file. Then I open it up again to assure that settings have been saved, it turns out none of them are. I'm runing Windows ME ( No laughing!) on a PIII 800 rig.. Latest version of AP and Gal Civ

If I remember right, I had to redirect the folder to which the first one was being saved. And when you start it up again you need to reload the scenario from the file button at the top left.

I attempted what you suggested. I should respecify the problem. I save a scenario in the scenario editor. I then close the program and attempt to reopen the saved scenario file using the scenario editor. The file opens, however, there have been no saved changes. The saved scenario file is still default blank, none of my changes were saved although the new scenario file was created.

It works fine for me. Maybe your scenario editor is corrupted? I don't know. Sounds like one for the devs.

Could you try emailing me a copy of your scenario editor so I can try it out and find out if it's a corrupt download or my computer? My scenario editor takes up 124k...really (126,976 bytes) so you should be able to send your copy through email..

Email is Drassnia @ umd.edu

I have been out of town for the past week and have not reviewed all the responses to bugs, so please excuse me if this is a repeat again :)
I just finished a game, not a scenario, and I cannot submit it because the system tells me that scenario submission is still in beta. I have submitted games before the last update, but none with this last update to AP. I now have two games I cannot submit because of this. >:( :(

Has anyone submitted a game since the last AP update?

I had been sent a Scenario editor executable by Cari, and had the same problem. At the time, she thought it may have been an OS issue.

I've uninstalled everything (including Stardock) and re-installed, and still have this problem. It hasn't made a difference where the scenario file is saved to.

You cannot submit games that have either custom maps or scenarios, or campaign games.  We're still working on balancing them.

If you remove the CustomMap key from the prefs.ini file new games will not have the problem it has now, where it thinks that "None" is a custom map.  But it will not help games that have the "None" string saved in the save game file.

I do not yet know when we are putting up the next beta.

The problem with the scenario editor on 98/ME machines seems to be related to the scrambling that we do to the file so that it can't be easily edited except with the editor.

We have a ME machine here, but saving the scenario worked for us on that machine.

So, If I fix the pref.ini file and replay the last few turns, will that result in a saved game that will submit? ;p

Umm...whoever sent me that editor....thanks....but that's not the scenario editor you sent me...You sent me the map editor... The scenario editor's file name is "GCScenarioEditor.exe" I still need a copy of the scenario editor again to figure out if it's my version of the OS or the scenario editor that I recieved. I'm running Windows ME version 4.90.3000..if that makes a difference. It's from a Micron OEM back in 1999...

You're right, it doesn't work.

Anybody have any clues. Has anybody been able to submit a regular game since the last AP Beta came out? >:( >:(

Weyrleader, did you read CariElf's reply? You'll not be able to submit games that are played on custom maps, nor with alliance victory option on, and NOR with maps that have the word "none" in their map key. Also, you'll have to edit your prefs to get rid of that key she mentioned. (it's all in post #162 by her). Now, once you've done all that... and started a new game on a random map, and won, and tried to submit.. ;)

I've been busy with other things this past week, so I haven't had a chance to try out CariElf's work around to find out if that will work for me. As soon as I get a chance, I'll give it a try though. (Might be a while, though.)

CariElf,

I removed the CustomMap key from my prefs.ini file and started a new game. I found that I still can not submit the result. Unfortunately, this workaround does not work.

Did you do all the other stuff, too? (Disable alliance victory, etc.?)

Well it's a moot point anyway because today's build should fix that bug.
