Norman the child molester

Like the regularity of trains rambling outside my window, Norman the molester,
knocks on the door nightly around eleven, it’s a ritual of mental health, he gets a little crazy—daily,
I require a diet coke for each session,

he sits at the edge of the couch in the dark of the living room, a small lamp on a table in
the corner struggles to blind the shadows, he’s not impressive, not physically, rather
simple looking, from a distance he doesn’t present any cause for fear or trepidation,
from a distance he looks as safe as a horse grazing in a far off pasture, but

that’s where it ends.

“I think I’m in love,” he says.

“You’re always in love, Norman. Tell me what happened.”

“I’m going to meet her parents,” he says it like he’d won the lottery. “she likes me.”

“Right, tell me about her,” I pack a bowl and wait for him to start. He chatters like
a ten year old kid, too excited the breath. she’s the newest of three girls this week.
He bumps into to some little girl foolish enough to smile or say she’s sorry,

this one is Cassi and he found her, like the others, by chance. “She’s shy and I asked her to go out.
She has to ask her parents.” excited confessions leave me alarmed enough to start
listening, then I tell him what I always tell him,

“Norman, you’re a fucking child molesting nut. If you try to see this girl you’ll end up sucking
dick in prison and being fucked till you die, run away from her as fast as you can.”

I can only hope it works, but I’ll call his caseworker just in case Cassi gets lost.
