Manual Errors
from
Stardock Forums
Just reading thru the manual, and thought I'd keep a log of the spelling/grammar errors or awkward language I encounter. *'s are definite errors, -'s are just my suggestions. "^:" means later in the same section. Even for the errors, you are of course welcome to correct them in other ways than I have suggested.
I use the page numbers on the actual document, which weem different from Acrobat's.
I'll post as I finish each 5 pages, and keep working in a reply.
* Page 3, bottom of "Requirements" section: "keep track off" (off -> of)
- Page 3, "Introduction": "galaxy, several other space faring" -> "galaxy, and several other space-faring"
- Page 3, "Victory Conditions": "and some strategies..." -> "and to provide some basic strategies to help you achieve them."
* Page 3, "Victory Conditions", "Alliance Victory": "other players" -> "each alien race"
- ^: "they'll be neutral" -> "they'll all be neutral"
- ^: "relations." -> "relations with another race." (this is to make it clear who the "them" in the next sentence refers to)
- ^: "do this" -> "ally" (shorter and more specific)
- ^: "their best interest" -> "in their best interest"
- ^: "get a lot tougher" -> "become much more difficult" (just a change in tone...sounds more like a manual to me the second way)
* ^: "Good civilizations don't" -> "Good civilizations won't" (we're speaking conditionally due to the last sentence's "If")
- ^: "do trade" -> "trade with them a great deal"
- Page 4, "Victory Conditions", "Technology Victory": "I have found that the best way to do that is to try" -> "Try" (scratch the entire first phrase here, it's implied)
- ^: "at war and hope that that starbase gets destroyed." -> "at war; hope that these starbases get destroyed during the war. If they are, grab the freed resources quickly before either side can reclaim them."
* Page 4, "Victory Conditions", "Conquest Victory": "straight forward" -> "straightforward" (or is there a dash?)
- ^: "so there is not much..." -> "there is little advice to give." (change in tone again)
- Page 5, "Our Story So Far...": "and ensure..." -> "and ensure humanity's survival in a potentially hostile galaxy."
- Page 5, "Starting a New Game": Put quotes around each of the 3 starting options.
- ^: "create your civilization" -> "design your civilization" (match with subheader)
- ^: "You can select your political party" -> "You must select a political party"
* ^: "they only good" -> "these only apply"
