I've been requesting this for years, so you're preaching to the choir!

Ummm, we can do that already...Why do we need a stardock program to do that? Unless i'm missing the point.

Maybe because windows has this ability built into it! duh! Open the control panel, click on Sounds and Audio Devices icon, click on Sounds tab, you can change any sound you want and even save themes

Audioslave clip

isnt that an oxymoron?..LoL

Sounds and programmed sound events are basically very easy to change, just go to Control Panel and click on "Sounds and Audio Devices" then on the "Sound" tab..you can replace or add any sound you like within reason, no problem...

As for the sounds themselves, there really are a TON of WAV's, MP3's etc, etc, for free on the web, and if that isnt enough there are programs you can use to "Rip/create" your own...

Alot of the WB's come with sounds, but some dont... But you know, I think sounds really arent an essential part of "Skinning" and I just have to disagree with a "Library" for them at WC, since it is a "Skinning" site after all, not a MP3 or music site..

Just my own thoughts,
Zero.

The idea is to have a program that makes it easier to load and save sound packages, and even be part of a Suite.

The fact that Windows already provides much of the functionality should make it even easier to program.

Ummm... Not everyone thinks it's nice. I, for one, can't shut them off fast enough whenever an idiot program thinks I need just one more sound. Starting with windows itself. Yes I find all thoses beeps, chirps, horrible sounding midis, etc. very annoying.

Which is why no one is suggesting Stardock release a program that forces you to use sounds.

Many people don't like WindowBlinds, and yet, Stardock continues to develop it. Imagine that.

For many years I've used Desktop Architect to change sounds. There are hundreds of sound themes out there for it, and its easy to make your own too.

Desktop Architect is good (I used to be a beta tester), but it's overkill as a sound manager, and it's not supported by ThemeManager.

Desktop Architect

Isnt that the free "Theme Manager" program for windows 98 desktop themes? I used it for years as well, but the developer stopped updating it and it is not compatible with XP as far as I know...
::laughs:: I still have it stored away on one of my CD's ...

I was trying to make a point that not all people like sounds & that sounds should be defaulted to off, not on. You know, offering a differing view point.

Okay, but I'm still not sure what the point is. This thread is about Stardock developing a sound manager. If that doesn't interest you, then you simply wouldn't use it. I don't use most of ODNT, because most of the programs don't interest me. But I don't spend time trying to stop development of those programs I don't want. Rather, I try to encourage development of the programs I *do* want.

BTW, if you don't like sounds in WindowBlinds, there is already a setting to turn them off.

Yes, Zero, Desktop Architect is compatible with XP. I used it for some time before buying Object Desktop

Starkers, this Desktop Architect??

Desktop Architect v2.11

Pros:
The best of the best little desktop theme tools all wrapped up into one great program. Other than the fact that it's FREE, the outstanding features are just too numerous to list every one here. After extensively testing Desktop Architect's nearly limitless features in comparison with Microsoft Plus!

Cons:
This program is not fully compatible with Windows XP.

Heres the link to the site and program with the full discription..
If it is the same program this is news to me!...http://www.themedoctor.com/da.shtml

Zero.

I've used it. Still have it (ver 2.0) installed.

I think it would be a great addition. They should do it. I hunt for new sounds to change my scheme every once in a while. It's just, yet another, way to customize your xp environment.

I would love to find a program that will change my start-up sounds every time I boot or re-start. Anyone know of any? Thanks.

Yeah it should be ...

Got games? Then you have tons of sound files you can use just in those. And Plus! for windows also has additional sounds you can use in place of the default sounds provided by windows. Most people don't even realize that they already have tons of sounds already on their PC's.

WebGizmos is right..Sounds are generic really..and so very easy to change..

Heres a great "Sound Recorder" program that I used to use to capture sound bits for web pages I used to create.. http://www.highcriteria.com It will capture anything going through your sound card, it's a great little program...
You can save the files to MP3, and make them as long or as short as you want... For editing I use a program called "GoldWaV" but thats getting a bit more involved..

Anyway,
Enjoy,
Zero.

If we ever had sound themes here, it would be a moderation hell. How many people actually create their own original sounds?
Sure, use WebGizmo's or Double Zero's methods to rip the sounds for your own personal use, but you can't distribute them.
