Groove Games has announced a new title, Army Ranger: Mogadishu, based on the firefight in Mogadishu, Somolia on October 3, 1993. The battle has seen previous coverage from the movie and video game, Black Hawk Down. Jarhead Games is to helm the development - a team with numerous war games under their belts including Marine Sharpshooter, Marine Sharpshooter II and World War II Sniper.
Army Ranger: Mogadishu will place players in command of a squad of Army Rangers, giving orders to Go, Cease Fire, Hold Position and Engage. Players will be given authentic US Army gear and vehicles including HMMVVS and Blackhawks while they lead their squad into direct combat situations like protecting shipments, defending HQ from mortar attacks, arresting key officials, rescuing hostages and destroying enemy facilities.
"Army Ranger: Mogadishu provides military action fans with intense gameplay and an engaging story based on one of the most intense firefights involving American forces," said Jon Walsh, CEO, Groove Games. Army Ranger: Mogadishu will be available for the PC June 14, 2005 with a low price tag of $19.99.
