Cold house.

Last night at home my wife and I did my thing as usual. We ate dinner, we watched "American Idol," after Kazuko went to bed I played Dance Dance Revolution, and I watched "Seinfeld," and "Frasier."

As the night passed, I noticed that my house was getting progressively colder. By the time "Frasier" came on, our house was freezing-cold. I decided to check out our heater. It turned out that the pilot light in our heater had gone out.

I spent the next hour or so trying to get it lit again. The flame came on, but it didn't stay on. I gave up and went to bed. I decided that I'd call a repairman in the morning. It was a cold night!

This afternoon we were able to get a repairman over to our house. It seems that a sensor was broken that prevented the pilot light from staying on. It sure is nice to have the heat back!

Luckily for us, this didn't happen during a really cold night!

The first house I bought had oil heat. Us being young and clueless didn't pay attention to refilling it (or didn't know we had to - I don't remember it was a long time ago). So one night in December we ran out of oil. We lit a fire, brought a futon out in front of the fire and curled up.

The house had a digital thermostat that we put in when we bought the place to save money on heating. When we woke up in the morning it read 46 !!!

I lived in a car with my mother for a year when I was a young girl (younger I guess; I'm still pretty young). My dad had punch out the passenger side window which is where I slept. My mom later coved the window with a black garbage bag and it would flap in the wind as we drove down the road. That happened around Christmas time, so It was freezing!! I realize this is an odd response to you blog, but it's what it brought to mind.

Seems like a pretty good excuse to stay cozy and huddled up together making a little body heat under 3 or 4 comforters...At least that's what I'd do. You'd probably decide you didn't need heat at all.
