Pirates of the Southern Seas

Pirates of the Southern Seas

Dreams

Dropbear was a dreamer. Not a dreamer of petty dreams such as dreams of wealth acquisition and being really nasty to people. But a dreamer of castles, and Princes and dragons and those are the best dreams of all.

But Dropbear can also be crazy and evil and shy and jealous and do horrible things. In other words he is a bit like pretty much everyone.

This tale is unusual because I can tell you the ending: Dropbear tried to repent of these evil ways. He wanted to stop being an evil, dreaming anti-hero. He wanted to do some good. But why did Dropbear want to be selfless and good? That needs some explanation.

The Freedom Force Pub

Dropbear was a Commander of the Freedom Force. He had fought missions and done his best, although his best was not always good enough. He loved his country and his mates, and he liked his new found adorableness. But he wanted more.

He wanted to be a ruthless irascible pirate like Pontius, or a conniving and handsome Spymaster like Gerakken, or a super-organised and respected Supreme Leader like Ray the Wanderer, or the President of the CariElf Fanclub like MM77, or a loveable and wise wombat like Wild Wombat. But he was none of those things, and never would be.

In other words, Dropbear was feeling a bit down and a bit jealous, and maybe a bit unloved. To stifle a sob he took a swig of a rather nice Kiwi pinot and looked around the bar. His current mates were here: a small group, loyal and true. The nightly chess game had ended with Bakka beating Ajm37 again.

Dropbear knew that he and Hurls would drink each other under the table before this night was through: he had found a good Shiraz, which Hurls would appreciate. But Dropbear also had another agenda for this night: he wanted to unburden his soul. And who else to do that with, than one’s mates?

As well, he had an ending to make: and a new beginning too.

Earlier

Dropbear’s Private Hell

Dropbear dropped the message crystal in disbelief. The moving image winked out. Yet, he picked the message crystal up again, and this time, replayed it, time and again. Afterwards, he had some thinking to do. With a heavy heart, he entered his battleaxe, the CariElf, and took her into space.

An Evil Pirate

Dropbear was evil and loved nothing better than to bribe and wheel and deal.

He measured the pirate with his eyes. The pirate could be suborned: Dropbear could see that in an instant. The question was at what cost? And with how much effort?

The gold, reflected in the pirate’s eyes, was a sparkle that held no lustre. But the pirate could not see that. “Arr. Gold. Bright and yellow, hard and cold. Heavy to get and light to hold.” The pirate squinted at Dropbear. “What must ah do, evil one, for the prize ya offer me?” Dropbear gazed back, with a forlorn look: “The price is high. But not so high that one such as you would not pay the price. Betrayal, spying, murder and mayhem. And…especially information. A bargain at any price!”

The pirate nodded. “Oh yes, a small price to pay for gold in the hand”. The pirate spat in his other hand and offered it to the bear. “Let’s shake adorable little bear”.

Dr Quinn’s Consulting Rooms

Dr Quinn was misunderstood. Long had she practiced and with quite good results. True, she had often misdiagnosed Pontius, but he made her nervous. She could not diagnose under pressure.

She cackled wildly. “Ah raven what shall we do? Our small collection of animals has dwindled to naught. How shall we continue our experiments, eh?” She whacked the dissection table with her scalpel. Dr Quinn’s raven fluttered and squawked. Quoth the Raven, “Nevermore!”

“Why Raven, do you admonish me?” She laughed gaily. “Animals of the woods we need, or better yet, talking animals! Yes, large talking animals. Or dare I dream…a man. MUHAHAHAHA”. She laughed a little insanely and drew the scalpel across her palm, with tenderness and a little madly.

The raven looked at the red, red blood in the flickering candlelight.

CariElf’s Temple

He walked down the boulevard, the memories almost overpowering. The fights, the tragedies, the characters, the Pres! The Temple shone with such a light as he approached: a light of clarity and goodness.

How did I leave the path of goodness so quickly, wondered Dropbear. How easily evilness beckons and then sucks one dry. He had fought his monsters and lost and could never return to the fold of the Viscountess. Or perhaps he could. No man can truly know the course of time, he thought.

But not yet. The pirate had been a useful spy on the Ship of Doom. Dropbear now had verification of the claims that had been made in the message crystal. “The burden I bear is too great”, wailed Dropbear. “The knowledge that I have, I can no longer hold and stay sane. I must confess, if only to my mates”.

Dropbear took one last soulful look, and left the Skowbo swamps, forlornly.

From the shadows the Pres watched him leave: “You shall return Vice Pres” he murmured. “And she shall heal your soul. Goodbye for now adorable, little bear” he shouted into the dank, swamp air.

The CariElf swept up into the sky and departed the planet, sadly.

Jimmie and Peggy-Sue

Peggy-Sue nodded enthusiastically. “I love Star Trek, and especially Captain Janeway. The power, the command, the authority”. The inflection on the last word made the waiter wince and move quickly past the couple’s table.

Foolishly, Jimmie wasn’t listening: “Yes and science fiction…”
“Oh, Jimmie. I love SciFi, the goofy stories and…and…all…that stuff”.
Jimmie was in seventh heaven. He had finally, he had truly, found his soul mate.

The Ship of Doom: The Officers’ Mess

CypherPax was being led out again. Mrs Pax stood at the door of the Officers’ mess, waiting patiently. She clutched a rolled-up magazine. Pontius shuddered: he knew how much pain a rolled-up newspaper could do: let alone a Marie Claire!

“Ah mate”, he said, “How’s the eye?” CypherPax looked from his good eye, silently imploring. Silently he mouthed ‘save me’. Pontius shook his head somewhat sadly, the Paxes had not been married long, and Cypher still had some learning experiences to suffer.

Cypher slumped as the waiters led him towards his doom: “The festering has stopped” he muttered, just before the door closed.

Pontius shook the Pirate Times and settled down for a read. The plush armchair enveloped him. Gerakken sat down beside him, somewhat stiffly: “Pontius, where was that banging coming from…” Pontius shook his head again: “Ya don’t want to know”.

Some minutes later, Pontius gasped: “Would ya look at this Gerras!”, inclining his head towards an article that only he could see.

Gerakken looked up sharply. He had his reports to flick through and was tiring of Pontius’ constant references to popular culture. “Who’s done what to whom?” he asked, concisely.

Pontius was oblivious. “Why, huh, gee, that’s funny…” He petered out. Gerakken was wise to this strategy, but could not help himself. “What, what, WHAT?”
Pontius looked up puzzled. “Um, gosh Gerras…settle down”. Pontius read out the article, which was directed at pirates and so was short and in very simple English. They looked thoughtful. “So the mutants are in turmoil! How odd.”

Jimmie’s Wedding

Young Jimmie’s wedding was spectacular. From the badly dressed bridesmaids, to the photo session in the botanical gardens, every piece had been carefully planned and executed.

Jimmie was beaming. “Gosh Mr Pax, what can I say. It has been magical. We fit like a hand in a glove. Why, my Peggy-Sue may be much older than me, but she has been the best thing that has walked through my front door since sliced bread”. Cypher looked as if he was about to say something, but he felt a presence behind him. “Of course lad”.

Peggy-Sue showed her engagement ring to her friends, Mary-Lou and Janeese. “Yea, it’s nice. It’s unusual. It’s different” they said in unison.

Pontius was leering at the women from a safe distance. He quickly looked around for Mrs Pilot who had momentarily disappeared, before leaning towards Gerakken. “What foxy ladies they are!” Gerakken looked at Pontius quizzically, before he coughed.

Mrs Pilot came up and saw the direction of Pontius’ gaze. “Ponshie!” She studied Pontius’ face very carefully: “They are pretty things aren’t they?” Pontius looked utterly innocent: “Oh, um. Actually, I hadn’t noticed”.

Pontius had learnt that lesson early and well.

The Ship of Doom: The Spymaster’s Coterie

‘Judge a man by his questions rather than by his answers’, thought the Spymaster. ‘Hmmm. I wonder what that means?’

Gerakken looked around his coterie. Spies and weasels, undercover men, standover men, Yor droids and chambermaids. A motley collection to make him proud.
“What news, my friends?” Before they could answer, Gerakken coughed suddenly: his flu was getting much worse.

Dr Quinn and Gerakken

Gerakken could barely lift his weak head. The Elven flu had taken hold of him, firmly.

“Dr Quinn, do you have aspirin?” Dr Quinn looked at Gerakken disconcertingly. “Ah, neurophen then…?” Dr Quinn began to take her blouse off, button by button, all the time licking her lips. In, out, in, out: darted her long, sharp, red tongue.

Gerakken blanched with fear. “Dr Quinn, I am a happily married man, what of your morals?” Dr Quinn shrugged: “Once I had morals. Once I was young”. The last button was undone.

Gerakken squirmed and thrashed. “But what of your ethics as a doctor? What of your doctor’s registration?” The blouse came off: “Once I had ethics. Once I was registered”.

The too-handsome Spymaster began to sob. He knew he should have taken Pontius’ advice and seen Dr Spock instead.

Peggy-Sue

Peggy-Sue sobbed. “There, there” said Mary-Lou with a hidden grin.

Peggy-Sue could not be consoled: “Mary-Lou, it has all changed. Since we married, Jimmie has changed.” This revelation shocked even Mary-Lou.

“If I’d known that the flowers and the nights out every night were going to stop, I’d never have got married!”

Finally

The Freedom Force Pub

Dropbear began his tale slowly, as if he lacked courage to continue.

“Mates, the story I tell you is pitiful, but it is not your pity I seek. This night I shall unburden my soul: and in truth I seek your understanding. I have not been lucky in love and long have I wished for the joy of marriage. The pleasure of sharing hobbies; discussing science fiction books; playing computer games together; all of those things that married couples do”.

The gathered mates nodded solemnly: they too wished to see every single, happy man married.

“Now I am evil, you know that. But I am a little crazy too. Once I lived on Skowbo, and held a position of some repute in the Viscountess’ employ”. The gathered group stirred, for Dropbear rarely spoke of those halcyon days.

“Ah, the adulation, the poetry, the chocolate….and Gerakken. Always Veteran Gerakken”. Dropbear’s chill voice became icy. He stifled a sob. “That handsome, common pirate tormented me. Why, do you know he won every award for his prose? Every one! I quoted Wordsworth for sheep’s sake! Do you think they knew. Or cared?”

Several minutes later Dropbear pulled himself together with some effort. Wombie looked tormented at the strain that showed on Dropbear’s face, the tears matting his fur. He felt Dropbear’s pulse, but let him continue.

“Now a pretty enough lass once visited the Temple. Oh, she was a game one. What a horn bag”. He chuckled. “The times we had...the laughter, the drinking, the late nights cavorting…”
The gathered mates looked both repelled and fascinated.

“But it didn’t last, why, it never does, does it? She left and never returned. I never heard from her again. That is, until this week! The shock! Her message told me all that had happened those many years ago….I have verified what she said of course”

Dropbear straightened and looked ahead without emotion. “This is why I tell you I am leaving the Freedom Force, to join the Pirates”. The group gaped, numb.

“Yea, it is something I must do, to make amends. I was not there when she needed me. She has since married and does not want me now. But our son…”

“You have a son?” asked Wombie quietly.

Dropbear looked down, he could not meet Wombie’s sad, knowing eyes.

“Yes, Peggy-Sue had our son. He was born in the dark recesses of a cargo freighter. The freighter was raided soon after by pirates and our kid was kidnapped. She traced the ship, which did the deed: The Ship of Doom! This is now my destiny! To become a pirate and find my son: to give him the father he never had!”

The gathered mates began crying and hugging as one.
There had been an ending, but a good beginning as well, at least that was how Dropbear felt.

Postscript

Wombie packed his bags thoughtfully. Mates stick together he thought. Hurls came in, and the rest, carrying their bags. “There is one other thing that I didn’t understand last night, Wild Wombat” said Hurley with a frown. “What is Dropbear’s special power?”
Wombie grinned. “Haven’t ya worked it out yet? Why, it’s glamour. When he looks forlorn, ya have to adore him. What a nifty power to have!”

The soon-to-be pirates nodded, thoughtfully. Of course.

Looking into the future>>>>

These furry little creatures sure tire of being pirates real quick. Now they just lay around on their back drinking the booze out of the hold.

Killa Koala finally gets up and shouts, "I'm mutinying. Who's with coming with me!"

Ha, Pontius.

Clairvoyance doesn't use crystal balls. Not for wizards at least. If you've been getting your advice from those foolish crystal ball 'seers' then you've got a real problem on your hands.

Your response has no saving grace, Wormtongue(PBP). From what we see, you didn't mean that in the first place. If you did try to subtly make the joke, put much more effort or many magnitudes less. Your amazing subtly or amazing lack of is baffling.

Wild Wombat stood at the command deck of the newly christened Pegasus, listening to the confused chatter across the comm bands. The fabulous Precursor ship carved its way through the inky blackness like a great silent hunter bearing down on its prey. There was a great deal of idle talk about the new franchise and whether it would meet expectations: Wombat was certain it would return a handsome dividend. At the very least, Wombat himself was very handsome, and he was sure that this would mean a great deal when it came to the annual report.

He reflected on the group's first successful raid. After welcoming back ajm, who managed to escape from Palain Seven hiding in the cargo hold of a Yor freighter, they noticed that something in the cool room was amiss: they were low on James Boag Premium beer.

Killa Koala addressed the group: "Fitting, don't you think, that our first venture will be to our old stamping grounds? I fancy a nice Taswegian drop, and we may as well use this opportunity to find out what this baby will do while we restock the larder."

The Pegasus flashed out of warp above Hobart and immediately cloaked; the pirates teleported down to the surface. The Cascade brewery was easy enough to locate. The group approached the guards at the front gate. Killa Koala engaged them in small talk, then medium talk, and finally had them eating out of his hand, mesmerised by his glamour. One of the guards pointed at Hurley, exclaming: "Look at that funny black-and-white chicken!"

Hurley stalked off towards the warehouse, muttering some thing about giving someone chickens...and was brought up short by the warehouse door, sealed with titanium steel locks.

"Why would the locks be of such high strength?" wondered ajm. "Unless...they were expecting us!" Hurley, continued to mutter about chickens, pushed ajm aside, narrowed his eyes....and an indigo laser pulse shot from his eyes, melting the lock.

"We didn't know you could do that!" cried ajm and Wombat.

"Humph. Not...bad...for...a...chicken." said Hurley through gritted beak.

Loading the beer was easy after that; convincing the guards to let Killa Koala stop telling stories and leave was another. "Oh yeah...we were supposed to let someone know if any animals turned up looking for beer," one guard mused. "What was that guy's name? Bluewheel, blueschmiel, bluedeal, bluepeel...I dunno. And he had this freaky coloured snake with him, yeah....kinda creepy."

The pirates looked at each other. "Back to the ship!" yelled Wombat. They brought the Pegasus up to battle stations and sat tensely at their command consoles. Then they saw it - and almost fell off their chairs laughing. An old scow, with the word ASS painted across it, lumbered over the horizon. They ignored the frantic hails from the approaching 'marauder' - Wombat and Killa Koala took two slipfighters out and whizzed around behind their geriatric foe. They used low power laser bursts to inscribe "Kick Me" across the port nacelle and "Wash Me" across the starboard side.

Safely back on the Pegasus, a number of fine ales and lagers - and the odd pinot - were used to toast the victory.

"A pirate's life for me....." thought Wombat happily.

Ray: Supreme Leader

Ray the Wanderer was feeling chirpy that morning.

He had been regularly disappointed in his short life, and had actually come to like the feeling of overwhelming and unavoidable disaster. Indeed, it was Ray who had coined the phrase: “Make the best of a bad lot”. Ray had also coined the phrases: “Every path has its puddle”, and “Fish cannot leave deep waters and a country's weapons should not be displayed”. He didn’t understand the latter quote but he regularly used it with his Fellowship fellows. Yes, Ray actually liked to be a little mysterious too.

Ray could see the disaster coming. Whilst he had failed maths at school (that was the year Star Wars was released) he had none-the-less done the numbers, and knew what was about to befall the Human galaxy. Yet Ray, as we know through the journals of The Nemesis of Ray, was not beyond duplicity. He had a direct line to the Emperor of the happy Peoples’ Republic of Middle America. And he used it.

The Ship of Doom

Killa Koala lined up with Wombie and Hurls and ajm and Hoop Snake. The drill sergeant looked them over with a sneer.

“Ya names ya stinking little piles of animal dung. It’s ma unhappy duty to try ta make men of the lot a ya”.

“YES. SIR. YES.”

At his turn, Killa Koala looked forlorn as he said “Killa Koala SIR”.

The drill sergeant had been about to say something nasty about the height of the latest recruits, but suddenly had second thoughts. ‘What a cute little fella’ he thought instead.

“Well, ya seem to be the best recruits we’ve ‘ad for awhile. Off ya go now and have some fun”.

“THANKS SARGE SIR.” the new recruits shouted.

The Ship of Doom- Orientation Tour

“Now this is the…”
“Yes. We know,” said Wild Wombat.
“Oh. Well, along here and down the corridor you’ll find…”
“Yep, the armoury”.
“Oh. Hmm. Next I should show you the booty storage rooms. I think the quickest way is down…”
“No”, said Wombat rolling his eyes, “definitely down to the left, stairs down four levels and ten doors along”.

The pirate gritted his teeth and led the former freedom fighters away.

A Neutral Planet

Ray and Surther eyed each other calmly.

Surther was the first to speak. “G.R.O.S.S. has to be dealt with. We in the happy People’s Republic of Middle America cannot tolerate …people who pretend to be animals…lolling in the sun, whilst out happy, fun-loving people toil under the yoke of freedom.”

Ray nodded. “That which shrinks must first expand. That which fails must first be strong. That which is cast down must first be raised. Before receiving there must be giving.”

Surther looked at Plephart quizzically. “Ahem. More to the point, can you convince your…fellows…to join in a two-pronged attack against this uber-threat?”

Ray’s aide-de-camp Gengsta nodded, and said: “The Tao of heaven is to take from those who have too much and give to those who do not have enough. Man's way is different. He takes from those who do not have enough and give to those who already have too much. What man has more than enough and gives it to the world? Only the man of Tao.”

Surther looked at Plephart quizzically.

Ray said: “That was a ‘yes’”.

The Ship of Doom: The Bridge

The cameraman bustled past Pontius.

Pontius glared at Gerakken. “What the heck is going on around here?”

The Spymaster looked unconcerned. “It’s the Galaxy Networks. They’re placing film crews in time for the upcoming battle”.
“Oh, of course” said Pontius. “Which hat do you think I should wear?”

The Happy Peoples Republic of Middle America

The happy Peoples Republic of Middle America Star Chamber glared at the individualistic farmer standing before them: “Speak man, before we pass sentence”.
The farmer wrung his hands but looked stubborn as many farmers did. “Well, like. For your information your Honours. I’m staying like this, and everyone else can just get used to it! If people don’t like me the way I am, well TOUGH BEANS! It’s a free country! I don’t need anyone’s permission to be the way I want! This is how I am- Take it or leave it!”

“Hmm” murmured the Chief Justice and Inquisitor, draping the black sash over his shoulders.

The Ship of Doom Infirmary

Gerakken’s head still throbbed. His Elven Flu was starting to go. But there was little chance he would go to see Dr Quinn again. He still had nightmares. The tongue: the red, sharp tongue. Gerakken sobbed, as the hysteria started to envelop him.

The man behind the desk, wearing a crisp white jacket, looked on with some concern. “Spymaster…I see. Look, here are some prescription drugs to take. Take these yellow ones daily, as well as these, and these red ones every four hours, and maybe all of these”.

Gerakken left clutching a bag of bottles. This had been an unusual consultation. He paused at the door: “Thanks doctor”.
“Oh, I’m no doctor”.

The Ship of Doom: Corridor A, Level 54

Dropbear nursed his head. It had been a bit of a session with the boys the night before, and there is no hangover like a wine hangover. Still, weekends don’t count unless you spend them doing something completely pointless.
Wild Wombat looked concerned: “Any luck Dropie, I mean Killa?”
Killa shook his head, sadly. “None of the pirates have my nose, or are particularly hairy. Or actually are particularly intelligent, except for the Captain of course. The shortest is twice my height. I’ve narrowed it down to maybe a dozen”. He sighed. The search had been harder than he thought it would be, and particularly as so many pirates were on sick leave.

The wombat glanced at the dropbear: “And why did you change your name?”
Killa grinned: “Street cred Wombie. These pirates are rough and tough and ‘Dropbear’ was just too cutesy”.

The Ship of Doom: Cabin 124, Corridor C, Level 32

The nubile pirate girl lit up a cigarette and pulled on it with satisfaction.

She looked at the new recruit’s smiling face: “You’re good. You’re Very Good”.

Jimmie and Peggy-Sue

Peggy-Sue buttered another piece of toast for Jimmie. She found that she rather liked her new role as a house frau, and looked for every opportunity to please her newly wedded husband.

Jimmie looked at yesterday’s Pirate News. “I don’t understand this! Not a single part of my horoscope came true! The paper should print Mom’s predictions. Those sure come true.”

The Ship of Doom: Somewhere

EBZM stormed along the ship’s corridor, furiously. “They’ll be made Officers over my dead body. Bloody princesses!”
“Excuse me sir, excuse me…”
EBZM stopped and turned towards the stranger. “What!”
“Could I ask you to carry this Penguin ice-cream and this Koala chocolate bar”.
EBZM looked at the sweets with a frown. “And, this is for…?”
“Oh. It’s product placement sir. When you pass a camera, if you could just hold them up with the labels showing”.

The Ship of Doom: Corridor F, Level 54

Wild Wombat looked forlorn.

Killa looked at the wombat: “Hang on mate, that’s my look!”
“Oh, sorry”.
“It’s OK”.
“Forgot”.
“No, that’s alright”.
“Because I’d never mean to…”
“Wombie!”
“Sorry”.

The Ship of Doom: Corridor H, Level 54

Wild Wombat glanced at Killa. “It’s a good power to have Killa- your glamour”.
Killa looked pleased: “Yep, I have to thank Ray for that. If not for him I’d still be a pathetic, powerless loser. Now, I’m a glamorous, lovable bear with a power to bend everyone to my evil will. Which is just as well, coz before, the only skills I had the patience to learn were those that have no real application in life”.

“Did we make the right decision Killa?” asked the wombat.
Killa looked concerned. “Listen Wombie. Some people are pragmatists, taking things as they come and making the best of the choices available. Some people are idealists, standing for principle and refusing to compromise. And some people just act on any whim that enters their heads. We pragmatically turn our whims into principles!”
“But have we compromised our principles?”
“We don’t need to compromise our principles, because they don’t have the slightest bearing on what happens to us anyway”.
“I suppose”.

The Ship of Doom: Corridor J, Level 54

“How is the Pirate Prose Competition going Killa?”
“Wow really good” said Killa enthusiastically. “I beat Gerakken in the first round. It’s clear sailing from here on. I’ve memorised several classical poems. And this competition is at a much higher level than Skowbo’s sad competitions. I think Gerakken’s lost his sparkle. Hehehe. Skowbo is like a bad dream now.”
Wombie nodded with relief. Killa’s therapy was finally working.

The Ship of Doom: Corridor M, Level 54

“Who do you think the ANZAC spy is on this ship Wombie?”
Wild Wombat gritted his teeth with annoyance. “When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.”
Killa snorted: “So we have no idea?”
“None whatsoever”. Wombie frowned. “But as for that Blue Steel!”
Killa also frowned. “Oops, I always forget the purpose of competition is to divide people into winners and losers. And how sharper than a hound’s tooth, it is to have a thankless serpent.”

The wombat grinned. “Will the ANZACs ever rise again do you think?”
Killa blew a raspberry. “I wish them luck, cause ya know, once an ANZAC, always an ANZAC. But you know what they say: ‘When the blind lead the blind, they will both fall over the cliff’. Not to mention ‘Its always darkest just before the lights go out’.
“Is that a ‘maybe’?”

“Wombie, we’re here.” They approached the guard at the entrance to the alcohol storage hold confidently. “Here, hold this clipboard. You can go anywhere you want if you look serious and carry a clipboard”.

The boys had a happy evening planned again tonight. That was the way of a pirate, and an Aussie too.

I shall endeaver to be more plastic, obtuse, and show all the fake intellectual wannabe you desire in the future. In the meantime, do try and express a little bit of creativity and come up with a new comeback line.

I haven't reached the battle scene yet, but I don't write good mega scenes.

Pontius, Did ya get some of the quotes I put in? I don't know if they are well known coz I don't know Hobbs.

I should mention the obvious, that when I put in references and quotes from shows and movies and writers etc, its just for fun, given the very small audience that read them. I don't do it to plagiarize.

Hey: Wombie, Hurls and ajm. Quite a stir we've apparently made. Worse things happen at sea don't they?

Reunion and War

To the Rally Point!

A thin vapor trail curved through the upper atmosphere of Habogad. Shortly after the line disappeared, a corvette streaked into outer space banking into a slow S-turn. Max was in a euphoric state as he beeped, whistled, and clicked.

“Yes, Max, I know you can’t wait to see Twoforty and Rainjah. I’m just as excited about seeing my fellow raiders again, but I expect we’re about jump into a battle. Stay sharp.”

Kit set his course for Palain Seven and let the autopilot take over. Even after cranking his speakers, which were blasting AC/DC, he couldn’t empty his thoughts. A voice echoed in his mind, torturing him throughout his flight.

“Not complete is your training in the Evil Ways!”

“Help your friends you can, but lose you will.”

“Ready to face Drop Bear you are not. Yet only after defeating him will your training be complete.”

“Not who you think the Evil One is.”

Kit understood all of these warnings save the last. Who was Drop Bear if not the Evil One?

Palain Seven

A slap on the back, a few firm handshakes, there was not time for more. Two fleets were bearing down on the Ship of Doom. Gerakken was the only officer to remain on the bridge as the other marauders dispersed. Only Captain Pontius knew what would happen after the red lever was pulled, and he departed for another ship. Just as crews arrived to their stations, the enemy began its attack in earnest.

No view of a battle between space-faring capital ships does their epic clash justice. From a vast distance, various colored energy beams slash across the blackness of space, explosions blossom and disintegrate, burning ships appear as fireballs arcing through the melee. A wondrous space landscape unfolds, but is silent. From the cockpit of a starfighter, energy beams splash a multitude of colors over everything as they streak towards their target, explosions nearly tear apart the little vessel, dying capital ships crumble like falling cliffs. The senses are overwhelmed and sanity clings to instinct.

Kit watched the battle unfold from the bridge of the Draconia. Darth Bob's vessel was bashing a larger MWC ship, but had gotten into trouble. With a full broadside from the Draconia, the enemy vessel erupted in a huge explosion. Ordering his ship about, Kit could see slip fighters assaulting the MWS Indiana and the FRS Ringwraith. These fighters were led by the new recruits. A smile formed on Kit’s face, but was erased by a disturbing sensation. One of the pilots, somewhere in the swarm of slip fighters... he shook away the odd feeling and ordered a status report. All systems were functioning at 80% or higher. The Draconia veered towards the main battle, looking for prey. An old battlestar, under Captain Pontius’ command, was slicing through the MWS Liberator. Staffa, in command of his lead avatar, was hammering away at an MWC avatar. The rest of G.R.O.S.S. was regrouping as surviving elements of the MWC and the Fellowship retreated. Kit dropped into the captain’s chair and released a long sigh of relief. The battle had been won, but his own mission was about to begin. He closed his eyes with his lips curling into a mischievous smirk. The mission could wait for a night. It was party time!

I shall endeaver to be more plastic, obtuse, and show all the fake intellectual wannabe you desire in the future. In the meantime, do try and express a little bit of creativity and come up with a new comeback line

LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL

Great stories people - keep 'em coming! Killa - good luck to the Swannies! Hurls, ajm - go men, go (where are ya, ajm? Score for us, but talk to us too!)

This GROSS franchise has stirred this up, but good!

Of course you'll have to work on your subtlety and obtuseness to get it up to Gengsta standard.

But do I want to be at Gensta standard..... :notsure:

The Gross empire can pay my my money later .. LOL

Our Writtings are stitting up more than the GROSS empire.. Its Stirring up just about everyone... :)

My stories on the going on will tend too loose ppl's reactions a bit more now that they know its mainly for the story and NOT My umm... i don't know how to put it into words... that won't start a ruckus again.. but without that same intensity of the joiners in.. (the other parties) my stories are now just about dead in the water.. and they are definatly a lot harder to get and keep going .. if you know what i mean... I hope it can get back into the flow of things again... but I've found that when I've had to explain things its wrecked everything i've been trying to do.. :(

What?!?! You have nothing to worry about, BlueSteel. :HOT: I can't imagine anyone understands your explanations. Your stories, on the other hand, are easy to follow and fit in quite well with the happenings of the Metaverse. Keep the stories coming, BlueSteel. Please! I can't take another explanation like this! ;)

Bluesteel a little advice: Don't let a certain plastic holier than though intellectual wannabe that chastised you on another thread get you down.
But also, a little technical note. G.R.O.S.S. didn't lift anyone from Anzac. They were already gone long before they got a franchise. And of those Gone, not all are in G.R.O.S.S. You may wish to put your stories more in line with the facts in the future.

Wombat, I concur on your wish not to be in line with the Gengsta criteria. HEHE. But he is making himself a running joke.

As far as I can recall I never actually stated that they were pinched from the ANZACS Directly.. as I stated once an ANZAC always an ANZAC.. I know that they had split prior to them joining you... I just liked the Idea of Pirates raiding empires for their pick of who they want.. and lends into the story line very well.. does anyone remember the game "Pirates Gold" from microprose.. ? well you can see where i'm heading.. and as for the anzacs part in it.. i'm drawing on history and folk stories / tales i've heard about what they were like.. (and believe it or not prior to joining the ANZACS i was tempted to join GROSS.. however they were in the lead like they are now and I didn't want to simply join the winning team.. I'd like to help a team get up and clobber the winning team.. if you know what i mean :)

I have a basic design for the pici of the ANZACS ship.. "The A.S.S" but i'm not very good at art work.. I have a trophy at home.. of which part of it would look great as a spaceship.. and fits the name in more ways than one... LOL

My experience in Tale telling stems from over 12 years of RolePlaying in about half a dozen or so game systems..

I hope you'll all continue to enjoy " Tails of the A.S.S. " :SURPRISED: :HOT:
