Pirates of the Southern Seas

Pirates of the Southern Seas

Dreams

Dropbear was a dreamer. Not a dreamer of petty dreams such as dreams of wealth acquisition and being really nasty to people. But a dreamer of castles, and Princes and dragons and those are the best dreams of all.

But Dropbear can also be crazy and evil and shy and jealous and do horrible things. In other words he is a bit like pretty much everyone.

This tale is unusual because I can tell you the ending: Dropbear tried to repent of these evil ways. He wanted to stop being an evil, dreaming anti-hero. He wanted to do some good. But why did Dropbear want to be selfless and good? That needs some explanation.

The Freedom Force Pub

Dropbear was a Commander of the Freedom Force. He had fought missions and done his best, although his best was not always good enough. He loved his country and his mates, and he liked his new found adorableness. But he wanted more.

He wanted to be a ruthless irascible pirate like Pontius, or a conniving and handsome Spymaster like Gerakken, or a super-organised and respected Supreme Leader like Ray the Wanderer, or the President of the CariElf Fanclub like MM77, or a loveable and wise wombat like Wild Wombat. But he was none of those things, and never would be.

In other words, Dropbear was feeling a bit down and a bit jealous, and maybe a bit unloved. To stifle a sob he took a swig of a rather nice Kiwi pinot and looked around the bar. His current mates were here: a small group, loyal and true. The nightly chess game had ended with Bakka beating Ajm37 again.

Dropbear knew that he and Hurls would drink each other under the table before this night was through: he had found a good Shiraz, which Hurls would appreciate. But Dropbear also had another agenda for this night: he wanted to unburden his soul. And who else to do that with, than one’s mates?

As well, he had an ending to make: and a new beginning too.

Earlier

Dropbear’s Private Hell

Dropbear dropped the message crystal in disbelief. The moving image winked out. Yet, he picked the message crystal up again, and this time, replayed it, time and again. Afterwards, he had some thinking to do. With a heavy heart, he entered his battleaxe, the CariElf, and took her into space.

An Evil Pirate

Dropbear was evil and loved nothing better than to bribe and wheel and deal.

He measured the pirate with his eyes. The pirate could be suborned: Dropbear could see that in an instant. The question was at what cost? And with how much effort?

The gold, reflected in the pirate’s eyes, was a sparkle that held no lustre. But the pirate could not see that. “Arr. Gold. Bright and yellow, hard and cold. Heavy to get and light to hold.” The pirate squinted at Dropbear. “What must ah do, evil one, for the prize ya offer me?” Dropbear gazed back, with a forlorn look: “The price is high. But not so high that one such as you would not pay the price. Betrayal, spying, murder and mayhem. And…especially information. A bargain at any price!”

The pirate nodded. “Oh yes, a small price to pay for gold in the hand”. The pirate spat in his other hand and offered it to the bear. “Let’s shake adorable little bear”.

Dr Quinn’s Consulting Rooms

Dr Quinn was misunderstood. Long had she practiced and with quite good results. True, she had often misdiagnosed Pontius, but he made her nervous. She could not diagnose under pressure.

She cackled wildly. “Ah raven what shall we do? Our small collection of animals has dwindled to naught. How shall we continue our experiments, eh?” She whacked the dissection table with her scalpel. Dr Quinn’s raven fluttered and squawked. Quoth the Raven, “Nevermore!”

“Why Raven, do you admonish me?” She laughed gaily. “Animals of the woods we need, or better yet, talking animals! Yes, large talking animals. Or dare I dream…a man. MUHAHAHAHA”. She laughed a little insanely and drew the scalpel across her palm, with tenderness and a little madly.

The raven looked at the red, red blood in the flickering candlelight.

CariElf’s Temple

He walked down the boulevard, the memories almost overpowering. The fights, the tragedies, the characters, the Pres! The Temple shone with such a light as he approached: a light of clarity and goodness.

How did I leave the path of goodness so quickly, wondered Dropbear. How easily evilness beckons and then sucks one dry. He had fought his monsters and lost and could never return to the fold of the Viscountess. Or perhaps he could. No man can truly know the course of time, he thought.

But not yet. The pirate had been a useful spy on the Ship of Doom. Dropbear now had verification of the claims that had been made in the message crystal. “The burden I bear is too great”, wailed Dropbear. “The knowledge that I have, I can no longer hold and stay sane. I must confess, if only to my mates”.

Dropbear took one last soulful look, and left the Skowbo swamps, forlornly.

From the shadows the Pres watched him leave: “You shall return Vice Pres” he murmured. “And she shall heal your soul. Goodbye for now adorable, little bear” he shouted into the dank, swamp air.

The CariElf swept up into the sky and departed the planet, sadly.

Jimmie and Peggy-Sue

Peggy-Sue nodded enthusiastically. “I love Star Trek, and especially Captain Janeway. The power, the command, the authority”. The inflection on the last word made the waiter wince and move quickly past the couple’s table.

Foolishly, Jimmie wasn’t listening: “Yes and science fiction…”
“Oh, Jimmie. I love SciFi, the goofy stories and…and…all…that stuff”.
Jimmie was in seventh heaven. He had finally, he had truly, found his soul mate.

The Ship of Doom: The Officers’ Mess

CypherPax was being led out again. Mrs Pax stood at the door of the Officers’ mess, waiting patiently. She clutched a rolled-up magazine. Pontius shuddered: he knew how much pain a rolled-up newspaper could do: let alone a Marie Claire!

“Ah mate”, he said, “How’s the eye?” CypherPax looked from his good eye, silently imploring. Silently he mouthed ‘save me’. Pontius shook his head somewhat sadly, the Paxes had not been married long, and Cypher still had some learning experiences to suffer.

Cypher slumped as the waiters led him towards his doom: “The festering has stopped” he muttered, just before the door closed.

Pontius shook the Pirate Times and settled down for a read. The plush armchair enveloped him. Gerakken sat down beside him, somewhat stiffly: “Pontius, where was that banging coming from…” Pontius shook his head again: “Ya don’t want to know”.

Some minutes later, Pontius gasped: “Would ya look at this Gerras!”, inclining his head towards an article that only he could see.

Gerakken looked up sharply. He had his reports to flick through and was tiring of Pontius’ constant references to popular culture. “Who’s done what to whom?” he asked, concisely.

Pontius was oblivious. “Why, huh, gee, that’s funny…” He petered out. Gerakken was wise to this strategy, but could not help himself. “What, what, WHAT?”
Pontius looked up puzzled. “Um, gosh Gerras…settle down”. Pontius read out the article, which was directed at pirates and so was short and in very simple English. They looked thoughtful. “So the mutants are in turmoil! How odd.”

Jimmie’s Wedding

Young Jimmie’s wedding was spectacular. From the badly dressed bridesmaids, to the photo session in the botanical gardens, every piece had been carefully planned and executed.

Jimmie was beaming. “Gosh Mr Pax, what can I say. It has been magical. We fit like a hand in a glove. Why, my Peggy-Sue may be much older than me, but she has been the best thing that has walked through my front door since sliced bread”. Cypher looked as if he was about to say something, but he felt a presence behind him. “Of course lad”.

Peggy-Sue showed her engagement ring to her friends, Mary-Lou and Janeese. “Yea, it’s nice. It’s unusual. It’s different” they said in unison.

Pontius was leering at the women from a safe distance. He quickly looked around for Mrs Pilot who had momentarily disappeared, before leaning towards Gerakken. “What foxy ladies they are!” Gerakken looked at Pontius quizzically, before he coughed.

Mrs Pilot came up and saw the direction of Pontius’ gaze. “Ponshie!” She studied Pontius’ face very carefully: “They are pretty things aren’t they?” Pontius looked utterly innocent: “Oh, um. Actually, I hadn’t noticed”.

Pontius had learnt that lesson early and well.

The Ship of Doom: The Spymaster’s Coterie

‘Judge a man by his questions rather than by his answers’, thought the Spymaster. ‘Hmmm. I wonder what that means?’

Gerakken looked around his coterie. Spies and weasels, undercover men, standover men, Yor droids and chambermaids. A motley collection to make him proud.
“What news, my friends?” Before they could answer, Gerakken coughed suddenly: his flu was getting much worse.

Dr Quinn and Gerakken

Gerakken could barely lift his weak head. The Elven flu had taken hold of him, firmly.

“Dr Quinn, do you have aspirin?” Dr Quinn looked at Gerakken disconcertingly. “Ah, neurophen then…?” Dr Quinn began to take her blouse off, button by button, all the time licking her lips. In, out, in, out: darted her long, sharp, red tongue.

Gerakken blanched with fear. “Dr Quinn, I am a happily married man, what of your morals?” Dr Quinn shrugged: “Once I had morals. Once I was young”. The last button was undone.

Gerakken squirmed and thrashed. “But what of your ethics as a doctor? What of your doctor’s registration?” The blouse came off: “Once I had ethics. Once I was registered”.

The too-handsome Spymaster began to sob. He knew he should have taken Pontius’ advice and seen Dr Spock instead.

Peggy-Sue

Peggy-Sue sobbed. “There, there” said Mary-Lou with a hidden grin.

Peggy-Sue could not be consoled: “Mary-Lou, it has all changed. Since we married, Jimmie has changed.” This revelation shocked even Mary-Lou.

“If I’d known that the flowers and the nights out every night were going to stop, I’d never have got married!”

Finally

The Freedom Force Pub

Dropbear began his tale slowly, as if he lacked courage to continue.

“Mates, the story I tell you is pitiful, but it is not your pity I seek. This night I shall unburden my soul: and in truth I seek your understanding. I have not been lucky in love and long have I wished for the joy of marriage. The pleasure of sharing hobbies; discussing science fiction books; playing computer games together; all of those things that married couples do”.

The gathered mates nodded solemnly: they too wished to see every single, happy man married.

“Now I am evil, you know that. But I am a little crazy too. Once I lived on Skowbo, and held a position of some repute in the Viscountess’ employ”. The gathered group stirred, for Dropbear rarely spoke of those halcyon days.

“Ah, the adulation, the poetry, the chocolate….and Gerakken. Always Veteran Gerakken”. Dropbear’s chill voice became icy. He stifled a sob. “That handsome, common pirate tormented me. Why, do you know he won every award for his prose? Every one! I quoted Wordsworth for sheep’s sake! Do you think they knew. Or cared?”

Several minutes later Dropbear pulled himself together with some effort. Wombie looked tormented at the strain that showed on Dropbear’s face, the tears matting his fur. He felt Dropbear’s pulse, but let him continue.

“Now a pretty enough lass once visited the Temple. Oh, she was a game one. What a horn bag”. He chuckled. “The times we had...the laughter, the drinking, the late nights cavorting…”
The gathered mates looked both repelled and fascinated.

“But it didn’t last, why, it never does, does it? She left and never returned. I never heard from her again. That is, until this week! The shock! Her message told me all that had happened those many years ago….I have verified what she said of course”

Dropbear straightened and looked ahead without emotion. “This is why I tell you I am leaving the Freedom Force, to join the Pirates”. The group gaped, numb.

“Yea, it is something I must do, to make amends. I was not there when she needed me. She has since married and does not want me now. But our son…”

“You have a son?” asked Wombie quietly.

Dropbear looked down, he could not meet Wombie’s sad, knowing eyes.

“Yes, Peggy-Sue had our son. He was born in the dark recesses of a cargo freighter. The freighter was raided soon after by pirates and our kid was kidnapped. She traced the ship, which did the deed: The Ship of Doom! This is now my destiny! To become a pirate and find my son: to give him the father he never had!”

The gathered mates began crying and hugging as one.
There had been an ending, but a good beginning as well, at least that was how Dropbear felt.

Postscript

Wombie packed his bags thoughtfully. Mates stick together he thought. Hurls came in, and the rest, carrying their bags. “There is one other thing that I didn’t understand last night, Wild Wombat” said Hurley with a frown. “What is Dropbear’s special power?”
Wombie grinned. “Haven’t ya worked it out yet? Why, it’s glamour. When he looks forlorn, ya have to adore him. What a nifty power to have!”

The soon-to-be pirates nodded, thoughtfully. Of course.

Note: This very pointless story is dedicated to my litle mate, Jaws.

England the Glorious

Part 1

“Come on guys. You can untie me. I’m much better, really I am…”

Cypher glanced at Killa speculatively. “I think not mate”.

The koala sat on a wheelchair, wearing a tightly bound straightjacket. Hurley nodded quietly. “Just relax Killa. Soak up the atmosphere…the tranquillity…the sheer emptiness of space”. Hurley pointed at the spaceship’s window that showed the blackness of space, with a smattering of stars flung across the inky vista.

“*** off. I’ve had bloody enough of your *** space, and if you don’t *** untie me then I’m *** gonna *** your ***, savagely! You’ve all got *** for brains and…”

The ensign pushed the wheelchair from the ship’s bridge, and the tirade faded as the door whooshed close.

The posse exchanged glances. Wombie pulled on the joystick as he made a course correction. “He’s getting better.”

“Mmmm. That’s good. I was worried earlier.”

“Almost back to himself. I can see the old Killa shining through already.”

Jaws exclaimed loudly. “There it is!” Killa’s mental state was quickly forgotten as Jaws pointed at a star a few light years ahead. “My home planet orbits the English Star”.

“What’s the planet called again?” asked Hurley, as he sipped his sherry.

“Why, Planet England of course. Although Englishmen just shorten that to England the Glorious!”

“Uh ha”.

Part 2

The drizzle became a harder rain.

Hurley shook his jacket as the posse uncloaked in the pub. “Certainly rains a lot here”.

Jaws sighed with gusto. “Wonderful isn’t it? I was afraid England would have changed. But no. It’s like I never left…”

“Home sick Jaws?” asked Quack, with some disbelief.

Jaws looked forlorn. “You said it. The grey sky, the many tones of sepia. And guys, just wait until you taste warm beer. And they do a fantastic spotted dick in this pub too”.

Cypher held up his paw. “I’m on a diet. Nuts and berries for me this holiday”.
Hurley nodded. “I’ll pass”.
“Me too” said Wombie.
Quack looked around frantically. “Not hungry really. But we should take some back for Killa! He’s getting sick of the gruel”.
“Oh yes. He’d like that. And some warm beer for him as well”.

“Uh ha”.

Part 3

Jaws looked around with excitement. “Fantastic. We’ve come in time to see the Final of the World Rugby competition. And then the World Football competition starts next month. That’s soccer to you guys. I can’t wait!”

Wombie rubbed his chin. “Jaws, who do you barrack for in the Rugby?”

“Why, England of course. Obviously not The England on Earth. But England Roses, only we just call it England cause it’s easier to say”.

“Right. Got it. And are they in the World Rugby finals this year?”

Jaws eyed Wombie with a frown. “Yes. This year the World’s top six sides are England South, England United, England Roses, England Central, England Rovers and England Wanderers”.

With some effort, Wombie stared at Jaws without changing his facial expression. “So… it is fair to say that England wins the Rugby competition each year?”

Jaws laughed with relief. “Certainly. England have never lost.”

“And every year, who wins the soccer…?”

“England”.

“Cricket…?”

“England”.

“Tennis…”

“England”.

“Basketball…?”

“England”.

“Well if every side in England the Glorious shortens their name to ‘England’, how do you know who barracks for which side”.

Jaws looked at Wombie with an incredulous stare. “You’re not serious. By their accent of course!”

“Uh ha”.

My fellow outlaws:

I seek your counsel. This latest bout of Metaverse silliness and the state of play has finally got to me, and I need your feedback and thoughts. I love being in the Posse and it had extended my gaming here far longer than I would have expected. I enjoy the writing and your company greatly. However, I'm just not sure GROSS is going anywhere - this franchise is doing all the scoring, and it's the tail wagging the dog. Threadzilla is a ghost thread at times recently. That's no one's fault, but I need to feel that my efforts mean something.

At the end of the day, seven months and 150 games, most of that time in the Top 25 shows - I am a serious soldier. I need to be part of an larger army fighting for something with many active participants, otherwise my interest falls off. I think others feel the same way; I'm pretty sure Jaws' rugby empire was his frustration made manifest.

I dont go on holidays. I dont flip empires lightly - I agonise over such things (as evidenced by this letter), as I did about Freedom Force and eventually coming to GROSS. I find that the latest series of pranks - as much as I can understand and laugh at them - actually in some ways diminishes the Metaverse and renders the competition meaningless. How are teams supposed to react when they are first one day and sixth the next? What about the TEAM?

This probably sounds WAY too serious for a computer game, although over months of engagement I do care about it, and the rest of you. So it comes to this: I am considering returning to the ANZACs, and trying to reunite the entire, complete roster of Aussies playing in the Metaverse under the one banner. All of us. For keeps. No holidays. Plus any others who want a rollicking good time - Cypher, this means you and anyone else who wants in.

The ANZAC Republic with a complete roster has an excellent chance of No.1 status under its own steam. This is something I could fight for. Of course, I'd like you all to come with me. I want to identify myself with the Posse until the end of the Metaverse, no matter what happens, anyway. Each of you need to make your own call, and I'll respect it, but I wanted to ask you what you all thought. I would still keep posting here and writing here, but seek the greater challenge of collecting us all together and pushing the wizards off the pedestal.

Cypher - this might give you grief, being a GROSSer from way back. Think hard - love to have you, and you've already been there. Jaws - a rugby empire in the Metaverse? Come on - we can do better than that (I say that and my mother's English).

Talk to me, guys

Lot's been happening over the weekend...

Most importantly, England were very lucky to get past a very good Samoan side.. was on the edge of my seat until the last quarter..

Anyway on to other matters... Great story Wombie, I am always amazed at how good you, Killa and Quack write, truly brilliant.

Thanks for the dedication Killa, got a lump in my throat reading it..

In response to Wombie's open letter, you have kind of hit teh nail on the head for me, I guess after reading Cypher's motives I understood where he was coming from so thought I'd have a bit of fun and see where I would be and try and catch the next empire up, but with a definite committment to return to the POSSe afttre all you guys are what make all this worthwhile, and I mean all.. Hurls, Cypher, Quack, Killa and the Wild one... still ahving troubled dreams about that scene in the cubicle..

To be honest I dont mind if we stay with GROSS, go with ANZAC's (although a republic..mmmm) or as an Independant empire but would want to remain together.

now for Uruguay........

Swing Low, Sweet Chariot
Coming for to carry me hooooooooome

i think if the POSSe felt like movin' to the ANZACs, then the empire name would have to change to reflect that move...

mmm, if you're lucky against the samoans.....

;)

Looks like that cubicle scene gets the People's Choice Award. LOL

Hmm... I'm not too fussed if we stay or go either. Would be nice to keep some sort of pirate theme. ANZAC Pirate Kingdom, anyone? :-p

Wot? ANZAC Pirate Republic sounds a bit weird, dontcha think?

how about D'Anzac's Island? El D'Anzac?

:notsure:

I dont want to put the dampeners on, but you're getting ahead of yourself a bit thinking of names! I need to hear from the Posse and the ANZACs, especially Bluesteel, about the idea first. I admire Blue and Steve for sticking with it, and with players like Jeff DeSilva, Styrdacos, Rainbird and Cotal et al there are potentially a very formidable bunch of committed warriors there.

I would also like to say that I do not intend to swan in like the prodigal son and demand things shift around to suit me. I realise the negotiations with the Republicans that took place revolved around name and flag, and I do not want to put that in jeopardy. I would simply like to give you some things to think about over the next few days:

1. I want a committed group. I agree 110% with Bluesteel's notion of kicking anyone out who hasn't submitted in one month (except those who notify they are out of town, etc). One tiny cakewalk game per month - half an hour's work isn't too much to ask. I dont want to carry dead wood. I would prefer a tight group of fighters that kept contributing.

2. Leading on from this - how would people feel about making it an invite-only empire? Not sure how these things work in practice, but it would stop the shifting deck chair effect. Perhaps too much, but consider it. I dont really know about this one myself.

3. Names, identity....I guess the issues for me are not to upset the existing ANZACs; we'd be joining, not taking over, and I am sensitive to that. Having said that, a gigantic reunion WOULD be a cause for celebration, under an new name and a new flag - that sounds nice to me. I am certainly NOT making it a condition of my entry, though. I dont actually like the roadsign that exists at present. I also would argue to broaden the scope; given that ANZAC has been able to attract Lavalamp, NewfyScotian, etc ie not all Aussies. It's a sci-fi game, too - something appropriate to that is important. Off the top of my head? Call it: Southern Star Legion and use the old Republican flag icon (I really did always like that!). I know what Quack is getting at but we are really tossing stuff up in the air at present - Bluesteel may not even go with the idea of returning at all, and his opinion is very important to me. Or use another 'star' kind of icon - there should be lots of nice ones out there.

Look, I'm just talking here and as I said, I'm not interested in having some drawn out saga about that part of it. I really just want, over the next few days, to get feedback and thoughts from ANYONE, OK?

Cheers,

Wild

Well said Wild One...

I've just noticed the Obi Wan is leaving due to all the changing that's been going on. I feel guilty now for having this month's break, which was just a bit of fun and not intended to stir up people like Theodan in the metaverse review article.

I apologise to all if I have caused offence with my actions.

Hi ALL,

Sorry bout last night.. I wrote that message late and was tired and VERY upset.

I WOULD like to see everyone happy..

IF the members of POSS would like to return they would be welcomed with open arms.. (no..no... not gun fire... HOLD YOUR FIRE Sheesh... )

IF you do come back here is what i'd be willing to do..

1. Change the name to "POSSAR" Which makes a word out of all the members old Empire names. "Pirates Of the South Seas,Anzac's, and the australian Republicans" , All the other combinations don't make any aence eg: ARPOSS or RAPOSS so it would make us the "POSSAR's of the Metaverse LOL (a play off of the word Possers)

2. We could change back to any one of the old ANZAC flags I was rather partial to the ship my self.. or we could try to come up with a new one..(I never liked the Australian Republican one.. )

3. all the regulaqtions would remain in place.. ie:

3a have to play at least 3 games in the last 30 days month to get into and remain in the senette (How I work it out is I look back to the same date in the prevous month whenever i check.. and if you havn't sent in 3 games then you get droped back to overlord.. It doesnt matter what score you get.. even 3 ZERO scores would keep you in the senete.

3b. New recruits have approx 30 days in which to post a game.. if they don't they will be dropped from the empire. ANY old games scores will remain and keep your place in the empire until you decide to leave.

4. Have fun..

So in short.. my responce WOULD be "WELCOME HOME"

my 2 bob's - and i'd be terribly excited about a 'reunion' - is to go with wombie on the name ie something sci-fi oz - i have this ludicrous idea that we have mutated now - and my even more ludicrous idea iz dat we have mutated to become one of the 5 races. haha i iz crazy - must be runnin' the yor sex slave collective....

anyhow, didn't mean to get ahead of anyone....

hang get serious for a moment evil s:

agree that blue's regs stay the same.

not sure about invite only? it would require major recruiting work (eg Wild Wombat, you have been invited to join....) but actually has a nice cultural flipping side. However, I think it should be linked to a fixed term appointment ie you can nominate to leave after a term of service (put yourself on the transfer market), or the empire itself is dissolved after a tenure (and resurrected by those who wish to?), and resurrected in a different theme (always Oz, but alway something a bit different)

3. names. sorry blue, don't like POSSAR much. but then again Southern Star Legion lends itself a bit too much to the SS (unintended i'm sure wombie). though southern star is a nice Oz/galactic phrase. i throw in some stuff if it comes to that. as for the flag, well i always liked the southern star for its galactic image, but again, it's not as important as the team.

i'm always gonna come up with slightly crazy stuff like The Diggers (With the Ace of Spades Flag) and we could all be one of the cards just like the US use (ie fugitives) or calling ourselves The Yor Collective and dissing on the humans with our wit and repartee and terrible end game strategies.

so feel free to ignore me

;)

I owe you all an apology. I haven't been exactly a regular around here lately. Nor have I exactly had the kind of time I'd like to to run a theme empire properly. It's not like Canada or MWC or Anzac (localities) or even Fellowship or Jedi (two popular geek movies) where you can do nothing and still get fresh recruits. You have to be here. Unfortunately, I cannot. Rest assured you'd all do the same thing in my shoes and it is important. I understand if you all wish to leave and no hard feelings.

I've noted in this and other threads, and in emails some things. The way I see it is as follows:

First off, though the Posse has its own thread, You're all one of us now. A part of G.R.O.S.S. and we a part of you. Not seperate. But one. That will always be true.

We all have a decision to make. Given
1. The general ho hum of the meta
1a. The childish jumping and clowning of empire changers.
2. Your emporer cannot do his job and is likely not going to be back for at least 2 weeks. And that we seem to have a critical mass left of only about 8-10.

Do we
1. Disband G.R.O.S.S.?
2. Get a new emporer, dump some dead weight, and go on?
a With a name change.
b. Without a name change.
3. Go form a new empire
4. Join an existing one.
5. Quit the meta entirely, exchange emails, gab and carry on about things and yuck it up, have a beer or wine and toast what a great time we had.

I think we all should decide as a group what to do (by all I mean all active members of G.R.O.S.S. Though obviously we cannot force each other to stay or go (nor would I bother trying) We've been together for some time now. We should try to stick together.

Here's my take.

I for one don't think the meta has enough life in it to form a new empire. Not gonna be enough critical mass to overcome the headstart others had. It solves the problem of inactivity (for a time) But we'd have to have a great popular theme (harry Potter anyone?) j/k)

As for a new emporer, it's up to you. I started G.R.O.S.S and it is my baby as some of you have said. But the best I can do as emporer is come by from time to time and post a few posts for the moment. I can't be here all the time recruiting like I used to. Sorry. Life intrudes. I'm not too proud to step aside if others want to fill the role.

As to joining another empire, there's a couple that I just wouldn't join. I'll keep those to myself for now so as not to have any undue influence.

As to quitting the meta... Hmmmm I've considered it to be honest, But I still enjoy comming round from time to time. So even though I won't have time to play much, I'll be hanging round a bit longer.

Well that's my take on things. Take care. It's late here. I best get some shuteye.

Jaws - no guilt implied or intended; no apology necessary in my book. I think you and Cypher were reacting to a situation that I myself recognised. I just have a different way of trying to sort this out. Before Steve and others run away with this (and I know you weren't trying to) it is by no means a 'done deal'. I am putting up my thoughts and feelings and waiting for the Posse and anyone else to put their two bob in. Jaws raised the issue of an independant empire and I agree that is in the mix.

I have obviously seemed pretty forceful in my comments above, but would still like to have the Posse 'feel' of commitment to the new outfit with the Pirate larrakinism still around. I appreciate Quack's comments in that regard with respect to naming, and I still love his idea that the leader is the one who bought the last shout (I dont expect that to be the case, Bluesteel). For that reason, POSSAR gets too unwieldy for me. I would like a name and flag that is attractive, understandable and if possible, inspiring!

One thing: I wont be flipping quickly on this. I want the Posse, ANZACs and everyone else to talk it up for a few days. There are too many sudden moves being made here and I'm not going to fall into that situation.

Be cool...contemplate....talk....

Love ya all

Jaws - offence? Nar, mate. To be honest, I was wondering why you didn't go for Georgia! I actually thought about making an empire just to support them, but it'd be so far down the empire ranking it wouldn't be worth it... that'd be fitting, at least :p

I'll agree that we've got plenty of time to throw ideas in the air. There are so many options we've got it's not funny, and I'd like thoughts from just about anyone.

It goes without saying that as of this moment, If any of the jumpers join G.R.O.S.S. I shall kick them. That's not what we are about.

And by jumpers, I mean the canadian that's been in about 8 empires now, the ones leaping back and forth between jedi and the fellowship claiming, we're #1.

IMO wanting to celebrate the english cup for a week or two is fine. I was rooting for the other guys though. No reason. I assume the other guys were the underdogs. I like underdogs. Unless of course they are playing my team.
