Pirates of the Southern Seas

Pirates of the Southern Seas

Dreams

Dropbear was a dreamer. Not a dreamer of petty dreams such as dreams of wealth acquisition and being really nasty to people. But a dreamer of castles, and Princes and dragons and those are the best dreams of all.

But Dropbear can also be crazy and evil and shy and jealous and do horrible things. In other words he is a bit like pretty much everyone.

This tale is unusual because I can tell you the ending: Dropbear tried to repent of these evil ways. He wanted to stop being an evil, dreaming anti-hero. He wanted to do some good. But why did Dropbear want to be selfless and good? That needs some explanation.

The Freedom Force Pub

Dropbear was a Commander of the Freedom Force. He had fought missions and done his best, although his best was not always good enough. He loved his country and his mates, and he liked his new found adorableness. But he wanted more.

He wanted to be a ruthless irascible pirate like Pontius, or a conniving and handsome Spymaster like Gerakken, or a super-organised and respected Supreme Leader like Ray the Wanderer, or the President of the CariElf Fanclub like MM77, or a loveable and wise wombat like Wild Wombat. But he was none of those things, and never would be.

In other words, Dropbear was feeling a bit down and a bit jealous, and maybe a bit unloved. To stifle a sob he took a swig of a rather nice Kiwi pinot and looked around the bar. His current mates were here: a small group, loyal and true. The nightly chess game had ended with Bakka beating Ajm37 again.

Dropbear knew that he and Hurls would drink each other under the table before this night was through: he had found a good Shiraz, which Hurls would appreciate. But Dropbear also had another agenda for this night: he wanted to unburden his soul. And who else to do that with, than one’s mates?

As well, he had an ending to make: and a new beginning too.

Earlier

Dropbear’s Private Hell

Dropbear dropped the message crystal in disbelief. The moving image winked out. Yet, he picked the message crystal up again, and this time, replayed it, time and again. Afterwards, he had some thinking to do. With a heavy heart, he entered his battleaxe, the CariElf, and took her into space.

An Evil Pirate

Dropbear was evil and loved nothing better than to bribe and wheel and deal.

He measured the pirate with his eyes. The pirate could be suborned: Dropbear could see that in an instant. The question was at what cost? And with how much effort?

The gold, reflected in the pirate’s eyes, was a sparkle that held no lustre. But the pirate could not see that. “Arr. Gold. Bright and yellow, hard and cold. Heavy to get and light to hold.” The pirate squinted at Dropbear. “What must ah do, evil one, for the prize ya offer me?” Dropbear gazed back, with a forlorn look: “The price is high. But not so high that one such as you would not pay the price. Betrayal, spying, murder and mayhem. And…especially information. A bargain at any price!”

The pirate nodded. “Oh yes, a small price to pay for gold in the hand”. The pirate spat in his other hand and offered it to the bear. “Let’s shake adorable little bear”.

Dr Quinn’s Consulting Rooms

Dr Quinn was misunderstood. Long had she practiced and with quite good results. True, she had often misdiagnosed Pontius, but he made her nervous. She could not diagnose under pressure.

She cackled wildly. “Ah raven what shall we do? Our small collection of animals has dwindled to naught. How shall we continue our experiments, eh?” She whacked the dissection table with her scalpel. Dr Quinn’s raven fluttered and squawked. Quoth the Raven, “Nevermore!”

“Why Raven, do you admonish me?” She laughed gaily. “Animals of the woods we need, or better yet, talking animals! Yes, large talking animals. Or dare I dream…a man. MUHAHAHAHA”. She laughed a little insanely and drew the scalpel across her palm, with tenderness and a little madly.

The raven looked at the red, red blood in the flickering candlelight.

CariElf’s Temple

He walked down the boulevard, the memories almost overpowering. The fights, the tragedies, the characters, the Pres! The Temple shone with such a light as he approached: a light of clarity and goodness.

How did I leave the path of goodness so quickly, wondered Dropbear. How easily evilness beckons and then sucks one dry. He had fought his monsters and lost and could never return to the fold of the Viscountess. Or perhaps he could. No man can truly know the course of time, he thought.

But not yet. The pirate had been a useful spy on the Ship of Doom. Dropbear now had verification of the claims that had been made in the message crystal. “The burden I bear is too great”, wailed Dropbear. “The knowledge that I have, I can no longer hold and stay sane. I must confess, if only to my mates”.

Dropbear took one last soulful look, and left the Skowbo swamps, forlornly.

From the shadows the Pres watched him leave: “You shall return Vice Pres” he murmured. “And she shall heal your soul. Goodbye for now adorable, little bear” he shouted into the dank, swamp air.

The CariElf swept up into the sky and departed the planet, sadly.

Jimmie and Peggy-Sue

Peggy-Sue nodded enthusiastically. “I love Star Trek, and especially Captain Janeway. The power, the command, the authority”. The inflection on the last word made the waiter wince and move quickly past the couple’s table.

Foolishly, Jimmie wasn’t listening: “Yes and science fiction…”
“Oh, Jimmie. I love SciFi, the goofy stories and…and…all…that stuff”.
Jimmie was in seventh heaven. He had finally, he had truly, found his soul mate.

The Ship of Doom: The Officers’ Mess

CypherPax was being led out again. Mrs Pax stood at the door of the Officers’ mess, waiting patiently. She clutched a rolled-up magazine. Pontius shuddered: he knew how much pain a rolled-up newspaper could do: let alone a Marie Claire!

“Ah mate”, he said, “How’s the eye?” CypherPax looked from his good eye, silently imploring. Silently he mouthed ‘save me’. Pontius shook his head somewhat sadly, the Paxes had not been married long, and Cypher still had some learning experiences to suffer.

Cypher slumped as the waiters led him towards his doom: “The festering has stopped” he muttered, just before the door closed.

Pontius shook the Pirate Times and settled down for a read. The plush armchair enveloped him. Gerakken sat down beside him, somewhat stiffly: “Pontius, where was that banging coming from…” Pontius shook his head again: “Ya don’t want to know”.

Some minutes later, Pontius gasped: “Would ya look at this Gerras!”, inclining his head towards an article that only he could see.

Gerakken looked up sharply. He had his reports to flick through and was tiring of Pontius’ constant references to popular culture. “Who’s done what to whom?” he asked, concisely.

Pontius was oblivious. “Why, huh, gee, that’s funny…” He petered out. Gerakken was wise to this strategy, but could not help himself. “What, what, WHAT?”
Pontius looked up puzzled. “Um, gosh Gerras…settle down”. Pontius read out the article, which was directed at pirates and so was short and in very simple English. They looked thoughtful. “So the mutants are in turmoil! How odd.”

Jimmie’s Wedding

Young Jimmie’s wedding was spectacular. From the badly dressed bridesmaids, to the photo session in the botanical gardens, every piece had been carefully planned and executed.

Jimmie was beaming. “Gosh Mr Pax, what can I say. It has been magical. We fit like a hand in a glove. Why, my Peggy-Sue may be much older than me, but she has been the best thing that has walked through my front door since sliced bread”. Cypher looked as if he was about to say something, but he felt a presence behind him. “Of course lad”.

Peggy-Sue showed her engagement ring to her friends, Mary-Lou and Janeese. “Yea, it’s nice. It’s unusual. It’s different” they said in unison.

Pontius was leering at the women from a safe distance. He quickly looked around for Mrs Pilot who had momentarily disappeared, before leaning towards Gerakken. “What foxy ladies they are!” Gerakken looked at Pontius quizzically, before he coughed.

Mrs Pilot came up and saw the direction of Pontius’ gaze. “Ponshie!” She studied Pontius’ face very carefully: “They are pretty things aren’t they?” Pontius looked utterly innocent: “Oh, um. Actually, I hadn’t noticed”.

Pontius had learnt that lesson early and well.

The Ship of Doom: The Spymaster’s Coterie

‘Judge a man by his questions rather than by his answers’, thought the Spymaster. ‘Hmmm. I wonder what that means?’

Gerakken looked around his coterie. Spies and weasels, undercover men, standover men, Yor droids and chambermaids. A motley collection to make him proud.
“What news, my friends?” Before they could answer, Gerakken coughed suddenly: his flu was getting much worse.

Dr Quinn and Gerakken

Gerakken could barely lift his weak head. The Elven flu had taken hold of him, firmly.

“Dr Quinn, do you have aspirin?” Dr Quinn looked at Gerakken disconcertingly. “Ah, neurophen then…?” Dr Quinn began to take her blouse off, button by button, all the time licking her lips. In, out, in, out: darted her long, sharp, red tongue.

Gerakken blanched with fear. “Dr Quinn, I am a happily married man, what of your morals?” Dr Quinn shrugged: “Once I had morals. Once I was young”. The last button was undone.

Gerakken squirmed and thrashed. “But what of your ethics as a doctor? What of your doctor’s registration?” The blouse came off: “Once I had ethics. Once I was registered”.

The too-handsome Spymaster began to sob. He knew he should have taken Pontius’ advice and seen Dr Spock instead.

Peggy-Sue

Peggy-Sue sobbed. “There, there” said Mary-Lou with a hidden grin.

Peggy-Sue could not be consoled: “Mary-Lou, it has all changed. Since we married, Jimmie has changed.” This revelation shocked even Mary-Lou.

“If I’d known that the flowers and the nights out every night were going to stop, I’d never have got married!”

Finally

The Freedom Force Pub

Dropbear began his tale slowly, as if he lacked courage to continue.

“Mates, the story I tell you is pitiful, but it is not your pity I seek. This night I shall unburden my soul: and in truth I seek your understanding. I have not been lucky in love and long have I wished for the joy of marriage. The pleasure of sharing hobbies; discussing science fiction books; playing computer games together; all of those things that married couples do”.

The gathered mates nodded solemnly: they too wished to see every single, happy man married.

“Now I am evil, you know that. But I am a little crazy too. Once I lived on Skowbo, and held a position of some repute in the Viscountess’ employ”. The gathered group stirred, for Dropbear rarely spoke of those halcyon days.

“Ah, the adulation, the poetry, the chocolate….and Gerakken. Always Veteran Gerakken”. Dropbear’s chill voice became icy. He stifled a sob. “That handsome, common pirate tormented me. Why, do you know he won every award for his prose? Every one! I quoted Wordsworth for sheep’s sake! Do you think they knew. Or cared?”

Several minutes later Dropbear pulled himself together with some effort. Wombie looked tormented at the strain that showed on Dropbear’s face, the tears matting his fur. He felt Dropbear’s pulse, but let him continue.

“Now a pretty enough lass once visited the Temple. Oh, she was a game one. What a horn bag”. He chuckled. “The times we had...the laughter, the drinking, the late nights cavorting…”
The gathered mates looked both repelled and fascinated.

“But it didn’t last, why, it never does, does it? She left and never returned. I never heard from her again. That is, until this week! The shock! Her message told me all that had happened those many years ago….I have verified what she said of course”

Dropbear straightened and looked ahead without emotion. “This is why I tell you I am leaving the Freedom Force, to join the Pirates”. The group gaped, numb.

“Yea, it is something I must do, to make amends. I was not there when she needed me. She has since married and does not want me now. But our son…”

“You have a son?” asked Wombie quietly.

Dropbear looked down, he could not meet Wombie’s sad, knowing eyes.

“Yes, Peggy-Sue had our son. He was born in the dark recesses of a cargo freighter. The freighter was raided soon after by pirates and our kid was kidnapped. She traced the ship, which did the deed: The Ship of Doom! This is now my destiny! To become a pirate and find my son: to give him the father he never had!”

The gathered mates began crying and hugging as one.
There had been an ending, but a good beginning as well, at least that was how Dropbear felt.

Postscript

Wombie packed his bags thoughtfully. Mates stick together he thought. Hurls came in, and the rest, carrying their bags. “There is one other thing that I didn’t understand last night, Wild Wombat” said Hurley with a frown. “What is Dropbear’s special power?”
Wombie grinned. “Haven’t ya worked it out yet? Why, it’s glamour. When he looks forlorn, ya have to adore him. What a nifty power to have!”

The soon-to-be pirates nodded, thoughtfully. Of course.

Yes Quack. I must admit that I can be vindictive and spiteful. It is one of my many failings.

*Sigh* Just tell me if I become too much of a dickhead in my doodlings and I'll tone them down.

For example, I had an idea for a 'nice' story (names have been changed to protect the guilty):

Darrell and Dwayne saw each other at the bar one night.

"Hello Darrell" said Dwayne, grinning.
"Hi Dwayne" said Darrell, grinning back.
"Things well?"
"Sure. Everything going to plan. A happy partner waiting patiently for me at home. A loving cat. My job is great, and I can afford a landscape gardener to do the gazebo and landscaping."
"Really? Same with me. I just got a promotion. And, I'm dating this fantastic doctor! We're going on a fabulous holiday soon."
"That's fantastic. Well see you 'round."
"Yes, you too."

Darrell and Dwayne went home soon after to their loving partners and each had a nice evening.

I just watched tonight's Pizza - THEY STOLE MY IDEA! Habib's decided to go out and make cheap porn, and some of them are having flashbacks to silent porn from the 20s, and middle-eastern porn from the 70s...

(if you don't like this, blame it on pizza)

Title: Beast of the Middle East

A guy in army cams is running down the street. He knocks on the door, a woman answers.
Woman: Yes?
Man: Hello, darling. (points to a box of bullets) I'm the door to door bullet salesman. (grabs his crotch) would you like a bullet?
W: Oh, my!
M: Is your husband home?
W: No, he's off fighting the militia.

(cut to porn scene)

M: You're better than my donkey!

(the husband and a bunch of other thugs burst in)

H: You slut! What do you think you're doing with your boyfriend?

(the husband and his thugs shoot the man and woman)

H: Now we must take revenge! We'll kill his family and burn his village! Then we'll rape his donkey!

---

I want my royalties.

Killa: in case you weren't sure, let me make my position on character assassination clear:

LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL

Tone down? Who said anything about toning down? Tone it up, I'm loving it! The only crime on this thread is to restrict yourself using a conventional Earth-bound morality :-p

Now, let's forget that dweebs like Darrell and Dwayne ever existed, and go back to real-life dweebs, like shaved-arse koalas, frisky wombats, and, of, course, psychic purple ducks who just don't know when to shut up :-)

[edit: everyone knows Sydney is the home port of all true pirates. we've got the best harbour :-) ]

Six Months Before the Galactic Peace Ball

The Fellowship little people looked at the flowergirl, aghast.

Arobertson shook his head unsurely. “Are you sure about this Wizard Ray?”

Thunda T grinned. “You know, it’s almost irresistible. She's so deliciously low, so horribly dirty.”

The flowergirl grimaced: “I ain’t dirty! I washed me face and hands before I come, I did.”

Ray looked grim, but nodded. “I’ve made a bet with H5O, that I can make a Duchess of this draggle-tailed guttersnipe. We’ll start today. Now. This moment. Take her away and clean her up. Take all her clothes off and burn them, and order some new ones. Just wrap her in brown paper 'til they come.”

“You're no gentleman, you're not, to talk of such things” whined the flowergirl. “I'm a good girl, I am, and I know what the likes of you are, I do.”

“We want none of your slum prudery here, young woman. You've got to learn to behave like a duchess” said Ray crossly.

Arobertson looked unsure again. “Ray, are you sure you are not walking over this poor girl?”

“My dear Arobertson, my dear little people, I had no intention of walking over anybody. I merely suggested we should be kind to this poor girl. I didn't express myself clearly...because I didn't wish to hurt her delicacy or yours.”

“Does it occur to you, Wizard Ray, the girl has some feelings?”

“Oh, no, I don't think so. No feelings we need worry about.”

Arobertson continued: “Well, what's to become of her when you've finished your teaching? You must look ahead a little, sir.”

Ray snorted. “What's to become of her if we leave her in the gutter? Answer me that, Arobertson.”

“That's her own business, not yours, Wizard Ray.”

“Well, when I'm done with her, we'll throw her back in the gutter and then it'll be her own business again. So that'll be all right, won't it?”

The flowergirl pouted: “You've no feelin' heart in you. Here, I've had enough of this. I'm goin', I am. Youse ought to be ashamed of yourselfs, you ought.”

Ray held out some chocolate. “Have some chocolates, dear girl.”

Despite herself, the flowergirl picked up several chocolates and popped them in her mouth. She suddenly looked concerned. “How do I know what might be in 'em? I bet a girl's been drugged by the likes of you before now.”

Wizard Ray sighed. “Dear girl, you'll have boxes of them, barrels of them every day. Think of it, think of chocolates. And taxis and gold and diamonds!”

“Ohh!”

“Yes indeed. You are to stay here for the next six months, learning how to speak beautifully. Like a lady in a florist shop. If you're good and do whatever you're told, you shall sleep in a proper bedroom, have lots to eat, and money to buy chocolates and take rides in taxis. But if you are naughty and idle, you shall sleep in the back kitchen amongst the black beetles...and be walloped by someone with a broomstick.”

Ray smiled ingenuously at the flowergirl. “But imagine! At the end of six months, you shall be taken to the Galactic Peace Ball...”

The flowergirl stood with her mouth open. “Ohhhh. But no baths. I've never had a bath in me life, not what you'd call a proper one.”

Wizard Ray rolled his eyes. “You know, you can't be a nice girl inside if you're dirty outside.”

He sighed again. It was going to be a long six months.

Pontius made a special trip over to the Pegasus.

Pontius: I am telling you Bakka's alive. He's in Ringworm territory. The legends are true.

The Pirates of the Southern Seas all expressed their sorrow and doubts about their fallen brother in arms.

Cypher Pax: Guys, I don't know whether I believe Pontius, but I've served with him aboard the Doom. And I do know that when he gets one of these Ideas in his head, he is usually right.

Pontius: Now the question is, what do we do about it?
A Dinner Party
Cypher Pax knew he was okay at the dinner party. He had been worried that Mrs. Pax was going to summon five fellowship wizards to change him back form his bear form, but she seemed to be happier now.

‘Our daughter, Ashlyn, is so advanced! She’s not even 10 months old and she’s been certified with automatic weapons and rocket launchers. AND not only is she able to pull herself up on a coffee table or sofa and walk, but she’s already iced three Torians on a Black Ops mission. Her father is taking her to the target range this weekend to teach her how to lay down suppressive fire with a tri-barreled heavy blaster cannon. At this rate, she’ll be leading raiding parties by the time she’s three.’ Mrs. Pax boasted.

Ashlyn sat on the floor and smiled proudly as she managed to put a small stacking cup in a larger stacking cup. Cypher realized that the other parents probably thought Mrs. Pax was exaggerating.

The other parents didn’t know what to say. It was hard to follow this with stories of Casey’s first steps or Avery’s sleeping through the night….

Planning the Raid:

Cypher had survived a weekend of golf and dinner parties. He had selected a painful mission for his next assignment, since nothing could be as painful as a weekend of watching golf and then having to talk about it at dinner party after dinner party.

Cypher’s forces would perform a feign along Fellowship space. This would give The Quack, Jaws, Hurley, Wild Wombat, and Killa Koala (assuming the fuzzy one could pull himself together), and crew a chance to rescue Bakka from the perils of Fellowship civilization. With luck, they would be able to teach those uppidity hobbits a lesson. Hobbits were nearly as bad as Altarians….

Cypher knew that he would need to recruit some special forces to confound the powerful magic of the Fellowship and he knew right were to go.

The Fellowship Critics: the Ultimate Corp of Uber-Geeks
Cypher Pax could barely take it anymore. The difficulty of this mission seemed more masochistic, than painful. It had started simply enough a local gaming convention:

‘You can’t hit me, your THACO is only 47 when you're blindfolded by Maid Marion's handerchief and my double secret cloak of shadow-elven kind means you didn’t even see me.’ Sobbed a large hairy man in a tattered Warhammer T-Shirt. The shirt had been signed by Gary Gygax and apparently not washed in years so that the signature would remain.
‘I certainly can hit you – I have the Chromium Eyewear of Venca and the Hunting Spear of Apollo – and between them I score automatic hits on alternate days in months that start with ‘A’ or ‘S’’ cried a slender boy with a ‘Chicks dig Elves’ T-Shirt.

‘So either of you guys know anything about Tolkein?’ asked Cypher Pax.
‘Christopher or J.R.R.? I’m only read each book 181 times.’ Exclaimed the first. Cypher thought he heard the number corrected, but wasn't sure as the statement was made with a mouth full of Doritos.
‘I’ve read the entire History of Middle Earth in Esperar’ the second stated somewhat indigantly.
‘You guys will do. I’ll give you each 15 BC credit for the dealer’s room if you take a short trip with me. You’ll get an additional 3 BC and an original signed Stan Lee comic for each friend you can bring along ’ Cypher Pax stated.

Thus… the Fellowship Critics Corp was born. It was easy to will the Combat Transport ‘Peter Jackson Sux’ once signs were spread across Gaming Conventions and Renaissance Festivals stating that some posers had transformed the Fellowship of the Earth into a space-themed empire. The outrage was such that Cypher had to wade through enough applicants to fill a thousand combat transports. Cypher had been able to find qualified candidates that met all his criteria: (1) a exhaustive knowledge of Tolkein, (2) a score of more than 95% on a the geek test, (3) a loud, annoying voice, (4) the compulsive need to constantly show up each other with their ‘knowledge’ in a sad attempt to impress the 10,000 women that he had planted in the Corp, and (5) a complete lack of social graces.

Cypher Pax grinned evilly – this was clearly the most dastardly scheme hatched by Gross in a long time. The Fellowship Critics Corp would cause morale to plummet as they visited the Fellowship world after fellowship world and documented each and every inconsistency with Middle Earth lore, therefore tying up the legal system and bureaucracy with millions and millions of trivial complaints. Many of the Fellowship Critics Corp knew Tolkein lore better than the judges and barristers, so it be difficult (for an ethical empire like the Fellowship) to silence them.

The painful difficulty of this mission was largely due to having to deal with the Fellowship Critics. They were a tiresome lot who knew every detail of Tolkien-lore, but who lacked the common sense required to cross a parking lot without getting hit my a car.

Cypher saw it happen as two Critics were debating the value of various Magic the Gathering cards. Still, the campaign was lowering morale among the Fellowship.

Even unrelated arguments about which Star Trek show was the best or how to create the most powerful 3rd Edition Dungeons and Dragons character possible seemed to sap the will of the Fellowship.
Cypher Pax just hoped this offensive would give the POSSE the time to snatch Bakka from the Fellowship. He would hate to think his effort had gone to waste, Cypher never had a waking hour where he didn’t daydream about spacing the whole lot.

Now he would have to wait it out… he was just glad that the Fellowship Critics were not armed. They would be more likely to blast each other over an oversight in their medieval costumes (they refused to wear uniforms) as they would to take out a real elf.

So far he an only lost 16,561 critics. The military biggest setback had occurred when a thousand Critics had been lost were by taunting Elrond. They told him they must be a glitch in the Matrix because his Elvish warriors did not look like authentic elves, but like femme Vulcans… However, he had lost over 15,000 during a tour of the mines of Moria and had had to put potential tourist destinations like Moria and the two towers off limits until the successful completion of the mission.

Cypher Pax checked his messages. His plan was working. Several Fellowship planets were more than willing to culture flip if he called off the Critics.

Well, my thoughts on the bakka situation: good things come to those who wait. But there are still 112 players without empires in the top 250. That's a lot of free agents! Plenty of potential out there.

Bum-sticka-dee-bum!!!

Three Months Before the Galactic Peace Ball

Again we find our intrepid mad marauder diving into Fellowship space! What lunacy! What audacity! What a time for the toilet to be kaputsky!

“I don’t care where you land! Just LAND!” Kit was doing the pee-pee hop in the navigation compartment as his corvette descended towards Middle Earth. Before his vessel even settled into the lush grass, a stream of yellow liquid arced out from the main hatch.

...

Returning to the Fellowship Halls so soon after the shaving incident was a tad risky... to say the least. Dressed as common shrubbery, Kit carefully made his way to the east wall, which was momentarily unguarded. He scaled the uneven rocks quickly and crept through the shadows until he reached the courtyard. From here he began planting listening bugs disguised as beetles, spiders, and caterpillars. The information that these mischievous little insects gathered would be crucial to the success of Cypher’s Fellowship Critics Corp.

He then headed off to the main hall, but found himself caught between two approaching guards. Without a sound and before they spotted him, Kit slipped into a broom closet.

“Just lookin’, I was!” A woman cried out as she held three brooms to her chest.

“Shshshshshsh!” The pirate put his finger to his lips.

The woman whispered, “Oh! You again.”

Kit looked closer. It was the witch he had assaulted with his Super Blast Water Soaker!

“Oh! Hello again.” Kit whispered. “I was... I mean... I’m playing hide-and-seek... with RayBaby.”

She frowned. “Wizard Ray is a mean one, he is. You a friend of his?”

“Uh... no. No. Remember when I shaved his head?”

“Ohhh! I remember, I do. But he used his tricks! Grew it back just as fast as you clipped, he did.” She leaned towards the pirate with a quizzical expression, which Kit returned with a smile. “What is it?” she asked.

“Ask me again sometime.” He cracked the door open to see if the coast was clear. With a farewell wave he returned to the shadows of the hallway.

One Week Prior - Survey Ship of Doom

“Not only is this important for the POSSe, it’s important for your training.” Gerakken was trying to get Kit to focus on the mission.

“I know,” Kit responded as he continued the external preflight checks on his corvette.

Gerakken sensed his friend was still distracted. “Try not to think about this ‘other’. You will meet her through the course of this mission.”

Kit paused and then turned to the Spymaster. “I know who she is.”

“Your insight serves you well. Bury your feelings deep down, Kit. They do you credit, but they could be made to serve the Evil One.”

Kit snapped a farewell wave to Gerakken before closing the main hatch. A few seconds later the corvette’s engines began humming. The Spymaster exited Docking Bay 17 with a devilish grin. He took out a small mechanical part from his pocket and tossed it into a trash bin.

editorial notes:

Gerakken stole his lines from Obi, but Kit made him do it.
The flowergirl stole her lines from Leia, but Kit made her do it.
Kit stole his lines from Luke, but Kit made himself do it.
