how to repair explorer in xp - not IE

ok so i replaced my shellstyle file last night, of course changing the original by adding .bak to the end of it, because i've done it before on my other computer, no big deal. i changed i a couple of times, and would get the windows protection "blah-blah" box because of changing it. well, after trying to restore the original back, i never got the stupid windows protection box thing, and i seem to have lost the "file" menu on my tool bar - well it's there, but it doesn't say file. here's a pic:

any ideas on how to fix this????

did you every get this fixed?

I understand that Windows Explorer is closely linked to Internet Explorer so does your Internet Explorer work okay?

Unless you are unlucky enought to have had another problem, unknown to you, hit explorer at the same time as you changed the file name, I would think that you have an isolated case of file corruption that can simply be fixed by replacing the broken shellstyle.dll; however bear in mind that explorer is crucial to Windows. When you screw up explorer bad things can go wrong.

Hope you get it fixed.

don't know if this will help or if it's been suggested but have you tried using system restore? restore to an earlier time and reapply? i'm curious to how you solved this...

This may be too late but DO NOT USE SYSTEM RESTORE!!!! This is a known problem with XP, go to microsoft's website, it requires a fix to be downloaded. Unless you know how to....nevermind you wouldn't be asking if you understood the manual way...no offense meant by the way.
