{DISCONTINUED}[MOD] Extra Planetary Bonuses (by Uzii) v1.1

A simple mod to add new Planetary Bonuses

THIS MOD HAS BEEN REMOVED FROM THE DOWNLOAD PAGES AND IS NO LONGER SUPPORTED BY MYSELF

PLEASE TRY MY NEW MOD WHICH INCLUDES EVERYTHING IN THIS MOD AND MUCH, MUCH MORE:
SINS PLUS

Description
Ever wanted some different Planetary Bonuses to find on your planets? This Mod adds an extra 20 Bonuses that can be found by exploring, colonising, or simply finding a new Planet.

Comes with custom icons, but until 1.03 this requires a little input from you, and 1.07Gb of spare Hard drive space. NOTE: The mod by itself is only a few Mb, you don't have to download a 1Gb file.

README for installation included, and a bit extra, I recommend reading it even if you know where to extract it to.

Additional Information
I am open to new ideas and suggestions, constructive criticism, and ways to incorporate other bonuses not originally in the game.

This mod may not be much by itself, but if another modder or mod team want to use it just give me credit for it and let me know.

I will add to this once I've got some feedback. Any problems just post here.

Update 1.1 Changelog:
Removed the bonuses that always appeared on Asteroids. They will now act normally. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Nice job! This makes the planets are more unique i guess.
the custom icons are also good.

Very nice Uzii. This is one of those mods that works well for everyone. Also the mod information has been added to the consolidated mod thread.

Looks very nifty. I do think it'd be best not to make the list of modifiers per planetary bonus too long - keeping it limited to about four effects makes it clearer what the planet can and cannot be used for.

Thanks for the replies. If you can think of anything you'd like to see in a future update, feel free to share it.

I can see your point Herman (or do you prefer Lord ;)), but some of the bonuses are more of a burden, as the screenshot shows, and if they are one of the nasty ones it effects a lot of things. Most of the good ones do only effect a couple of areas, but as you can see, a Diseased Planet is going to serious mess up all aspects of it's performance.

Thanks again for the replies, much appreciated, and thanks Spartan, for adding it to the sticky :D

I am confused as to where I put the textures. you say my mods folder in c:/program files/stardock/total/gaming yet I was under the impression i only had a mods folder in documents and settings/owner/local user/application data/ironclad games/sins of a solar empire/mods should I create one in my main directory also. is that where you mean to put the last part?
I understand where to put the actuall mod. it is the textures and the icons I am confused about . the readme is A bit confusing there

From the README.

If you want the custom icons for the new Planetary Bonuses, and you have 1.07Gb of space on your hard drive spare, go to the Sins' directory (Default being C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\Sins of a Solar Empire ) and copy the entire 'Textures' folder into the 'Extra Planetary Bonuses (by Uzii)' folder in your Mods directory. Now extract the 'Textures' folder from the .rar file you downloaded. There will be 2 files inside; BackdropFrontEnd.TGA and PlanetBonuses.TGA, copy them into the 'Textures' folder you just copied into 'Extra Planetary Bonuses (by Uzii)' and replace both the original files.
End of quote

I think you may have misread. There is only one 'Mods' directory. And there should only be one folder called 'Extra Planetary Bonuses (by Uzii)'. You don't need to create anything. Go to your main Sins' directory, copy the textures folder (all 1.07Gb) from the main directory into my mods folder, which is where you installed the mod.

Then you extract the 2 .TGA files from the .WIP into the new textures folder you just made, in my mods folder.

I think I may have tried to make the README too explanatory, making sure every folder reference I gave had a location after it.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the cred. Too bad there isn't a better way to specify the chance for a bonus other than in the .galaxy file or the forge tool. Like an option in the GalaxyScenarioDef.galaxyScenarioDef file where you could define different verions of the same sets with higher and lower chances.

Dunno if this would help, but we had a discussion like this during beta. Here's the thread for your reference and to see if you can glean anything else out of it.

No problem Pmutzu.

Bink, I am also slightly frustrated that you can't individually change the chance of separate bonuses. Perhaps there is a way which we'll find out soon, or in an update... And as for the credit, well, you gave me quite a few ideas, and you were the only person on the forum to give them ;)

That link does look useful, quite a few ideas, that might be possible to incorporate. Thanks.

Already got another mini-mod in mind, like this, just adds a small addition, but coupled with a bigger mod, might come in handy.

Yeah. In a play test with this sucker I upped the chance to 90%, and over half of the worlds were War Torn. Made for a very interesting play test to say the least. Hear us DEVs...We want the option. :)

Ha, sounds like fun. Must have been some kind of Galaxy-wide conflict, other than the one the TEC, Vasari, and Advent are waging. :D

There is a way to increase the chance of getting a certain bonus rather than the others, once a planet has been assigned to have a bonus. During preliminary testing, I put more than one 'Hollow Core' in the 'available' bonuses list for the Asteroid planet type, and it seemed to pick that one more often, which makes sense.

And there is a way to force certain planet types to have a bonus, like Pirate Bases, they will always have the 'Loot' bonus. But there's no way to randomise it. I hope we get the option, it would be very nice.

If you ever have any ideas for new ones, just let me know ;)
Thanks again for the feedback.

sounds like an essential mod. will try it. this and sins Enhancement Mod v1.52 are the only things that will keep me playing this game xd.

If you like this look out for my next update/merge. It will include more planets, and more bonuses. ETA: a 2-3 days, hopefully.
It would be nice if you had an alternate link for future mods of yours through Filefront(No its no fileplanet and its completely free no registration required) because theres allot less hoops to jump through to download the file and the file has a higher and longer chance of staying on the site.

Has anyone else had a problem with asteroids when using this? I find that no matter what bonus' are on the asteroid all of them have lost their gravity well and no orbital structures can be built. Have tried to tweak this in the mod files for PlanetAsteroids.entity but cant seem to sort it out...

Any ideas?

You sure its not a 'Dead Asteroid'? These are in the vanilla game, look exactly the same as Asteroids, but are just worse in every aspect.

And I'll keep that in mind Bubb9, another link to the download is always welcome.

And Bob, merging 2 mods is difficult work, especially when they are from different authors. By all means ask the Enhancement Mod author to do it, but I must decline. If he, or you, are up to it, all my modified content is at the end of the files, for slightly easier reading.

Thanks to everyone for your feedback.

This is a great idea. More than other Mods this one doesn't unballance the game.
But it doesn't seem to work well for me : only a few superdense cores appear in my custom maps on planets. And asteroids allways have the combo completely hollow core / moons.
No other feature appears.
I have not installed the copy of textures in the directory to save space. Is it the reason why the mod doesn't seem to work well ?
I've emailed you an explanation/solution. I'll copy the main point here:

Mmm... It "shouldn't" effect it, as the Super Dense Core and Hollow Core have custom icons as the others do. It is completely random, but some of the bonuses appear more often on some planets, as there are two entries of it, doubling the chance of it occurring (this was intentional). However, you should see the other bonuses around somewhere.

Do you own the planets in question? And have you explored the planets you occupy? Some bonuses will only appear when you control the planet, and other will only appear once you have explored the planet. You can see the Super Dense and Hollow Core bonuses as they do not require you to control the planet to see them.

There cant be a thing like too much planet bonus !
Makes at least exploring the planets worthwhile.

Is it possible to dynamically alter planet bonus e.g.

a planet got bombed several times into oblivion and it gets the war torn bonuse

or if a trade route runs for X minutes it may receive a trade bonus

if the next planet to a system is a pirate base , make it have additional tacticslots like "increased police presence" or the other way a reduced trade bonus for "pirate activity"

You read the readme right? Copied the textures over from the main directory right? Go over the readme once again and make sure its all correct.

Ignore the TotalGaming bit, I have that on my computer, I suspect because I downloaded the game from StarDock, rather than installed it from DVD. Basically, find the Sins main directory, should be in the StarDock folder somewhere.
