I agree with Jafo on his points. In fact, DeviantArt has really the idealized interactive system. I think Jark could probably get a business going as a consultant selling community driven technologies or something (Well it would have made a great VC funded .com idea anyway). Down the line though it would be nice to be notified of comments made to your skins recently or comments made to skins you've posted to and other heads up features of that kind. But that would take IT res

The reason why ess-vid's scenario wouldn't happen here is because we have moderators who would delete such wasteful stuff and that would result in a point loss for them. On the BBS we used to run, we had such a system and it worked very very well. It didn't spur traffic as much as let us know who were the real contributors to the BBS. There are other uses for the point system as well, for instance, the bandwidth crunch some people may have forgotten about hasn't gone away. By
One of our top priorities when we created the site was to have a way of really giving users who are contributing to the site some accoldates. That's why we track the top skin authors per category and top skins and such. But we shouldn't stop there I think. One of the things we've been throwing around is the idea of having a points system for users. So that people who are contributing to the site in other ways can get more recognition. Basically the idea works somet
Don't you have chimneys to sweep, madam?

Personally I think the whole concept of custom icons for specific people reaks of elitism...
He just skipped town to avoid the Thursday night company basketball game!
For all you would be webmasters out there interested in paying for that bandwidth, there's a really good article that talks about different ways of generating income from your website to pay the bills.
It's up for me.
If you think LOTR is "Crap" then I really can't recommend any books I like to you.
I thought it was Deskmod but I could be wrong.
Where are those matches...
I agree. Silmarillion is a true masterpiece. Gandalf, blech, the elves from the old days could have kicked Gandalf's butt let alone Sauron. Sauron was the regular whipping boy of some of the Eldar.
Convergence is part of Object Desktop. So if you have a subscriptoin to ObjectDesktop.net, you get Convergence. We plan to release the first beta onto ODNT a week from next Monday.
It's coming very soon.
Plus there is the bandwidth cost issue which is one of the overriding issues in the near term. In the longer term, assuming that the site can pay for the bandwidth, we'll be letting users pick which sections they see. By default, the top dozen or so section will be displayed and registered users can then select from a more full list. But that is down the line.
We're flexible. If the design is cool enough, we'll do what it takes to make it happen.
WinCustomize is accepting T-shirt designs, logo designs, etc. If we use them in something, we'll pay you $100 plus give you a few shirts or mugs or hats or whatever it's used on to give to friends and family. Just submit your designs to the Graphics area, the T-shirt ideas is a catch-all. Anything y
I didn't know she was giong to kill the series after the 7th. I thought she might do stories that involved Harry Potter as an adult or something. Though I agree, after 7 books she might be ready to go on. Book 4 could ahve really been 2 books. The first book is like 250 pages, book 4 is over 800.
We need designs. Anyone with a design we use we'll compensate! Please feel free to submit all designs to the T-shirt ideas area on the Graphics section.
Anyone else here read the Harry Potter books? I scoffed at them for a long while and indeed the first one was pretty kiddie stuff. But I just finished the 4th book, Goblet of Fire, and I'm hooked. Any other HP readers here?
One of the best web site layouts I've ever seen. Incredible!
I love the summer. Michigan, which is where I live, is awful in the winter but you can almost forgive it in the summer. Right now as I type this from the deck (wireless Internet, love it ) I can see the fire-flies flying around. There are woods behind the house and the creek is full of frogs (of course). I've been raising tadpoles into toads again this summer and the yard is full of tiny toads. What would be cool would be to find out what the different people reading this fro
Well I think that is a given, Jafo. Can't even get XP certification without that.
DesktopX can do it all. There are animated wallpaprs, objects, everything.
