Great! And yea, we would still highlight sections. Heck, i think it would be nice if over time we re-highlighted existing sections (especiall lesser known ones) to re-expose them to new users. This feature should show up in July.

With the end of the month fast approaching, we're coming to where we need to make some decisions. As some of you know, the original goal of WinCustomize was to feature mainly the apps that had already become fairly popular. But last month with Deskmod going down, we decided to open things up a little more and added sections that we might otherwise not have added. This month we added 5 sections - Graphics, KewlPad, CoolPlayer, Beatnik, and Colorpad. Coolplayer and Beat
Note to all moderators, you don't have to approve everything that's uploaded. I know I haven't approved any of the XP wallpapers. I'm definitely pretty tired of them too. We do have a filtering system in the works where you'll be able to filter by rating on a per section basis. Few XP wallpapers have gotten a high rating. But I think the time has come to lock down on the XP uploads. Yes
Our plan is to create sopmething called WinCustomize (a progrma) that would not just browse the sections here and handle the message areas and comments but let you apply the skins directly from the program.
The owner of LS2K.org reports that he may have to close his site in the coming weeks.
I'm running the metalic skin for WinCustomize. I was wondering how many people feel that WC should change its default look to be something different? If so, which one would you choose?
ah yes, wallpapers too I believe.
Well I just got email that tells me how I can make thousands of dollars per month working from the privacy of my own home. So so long suckers! Whohaahaha! I'm off to start my new career!
The WinCustomize CD is now available! It contains most of the skins on WinCustomize that we have permission to distribute -- over 600 megs of skins, themes, and icons. It also comes with two, never before seen skin suites made by Alexandrie and Treetog. The skin suites include skins for most of the se
Because programs like Napster are only good for stealing er I mean finding songs that you already know about. But in skinning, it's the newest skins that are often the best and people wouldn't know to search on them. Skin sites can also help filter out the crap. It may not seem like it sometiems but a lot of skins get moderated (rips mainly) that are never seen. Peer stuff works best when you already know what you're looking for.
For the life of me, does anyone else feel like they're out of touch with the general user? I can't figure out why people like these XP skins/wallpapers/themes so much. It's even worse than the Aqua look. You want to know what's really funny? Lots of people hate the new look who have the actual beta of Windows XP.
Tman got back with me and said there's been problems with the GIF handler and says to use JPEG instead for now.
Junk mail isn't cost effective generally.
The WinCustomize CD will be available on Monday.
Er okay. Whatever.
Not out yet, starts on Monday.
The public response to the WinCustomize CD has been so positive and the site had gotten so slow that we went ahead and trippled WinCustomize's bandwidth. Hopefully you can already tell the difference in the speed of the site.
It wold almost be worth uploading a screenshot of our bandwidth graph. It was maxed out for days straight and then we added it and then boom it jumped way up. That's why it was so slow, we weren't even close to having enough bandwidth. Which is amazing because if someone told me a year ago that we'd have this much bandwidth I would have laughed. It was so painful doing anything on the site though,
We trippled the site's bandwidth yesterday, that's why it's fast now. The site was just too slow so we went ahead and got more bandwidth on the assumption that the CD which goes out on Monday will sell reasonably well. Hopefully in a month we're not back to where we were. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/ima
We're not interested in changing society, we just want to be able to look at skins without reading comments from immature jerks.
It's part of Object Desktop which is $49.95 and you get WindowBlinds, DesktopX, IconPackager, and a ton of other stuff. www.stardock.com
I know what you mean. In fact, it was for this reason we created a visitor access class. People who register start at access group 2 (not 1). If they show they can't be decent human beings to other, they go to group 1 which can't comment on skins. Such is the case with this guy.
Well Joshomo just became a "visitor" class which means he can still visit and download but can no longer comment on skins.
With the WinCustomize CD nearly ready, WinCustomize has purchased (for a month) more bandwidth. Hopefully you can already tell the difference in speed.
The main problem is just the overhead in people time. Ever seen that Seinfeld episode where Jerry's getting a bunch of checks that are less than $1? Putting in that kind of royalty system or something for skinners could get painful. I think it would make much more sense to have a Skinnerz CD which has suites that can be downloaded or sent as a CD for $19.95. So instead of having a bunch of $5 sales, you have a single $20 one.
