Terror Star defence upgrades in Galactic Civilizations I Stardock Forums

What is the point in them? I fully customised 10 Terror Stars with all the defensive additions even Avatar protection only to see them all wiped out by an Overlord... Why doesn't the defensive add ons do what they claim to do (protect from Overlords etc?)

I recently got the game (love it) but i research things like star creation and cloaking etc - but nothing seems to happen, is something supposed to happen, i.e can i make stars and 'artificial moons' like it says and how do uget ur ships to cloak etc? also. maybe this is a bug, i can't read the full dexcribtion of some of the research items, there is no button to scroll down with.....
