Can't get up/downloading speeds in DesktopX JoeUser Forums

I'm at wits end. I'm trying to get graphical meters 2 to display my up/downloading sppeds but when I switched from dialup to cable modem I lost this capability. When I try to create a connection I get a message saying it can't connect to machine. I've tried turning off all the firewalls, etc. with no results.
