AMD previously announced that they would open-source their drivers, mainly for the benefit of the Linux community. Many trade secrets, however, cannot be revealed. Also, OpenGL 3.0 just released to moderate fanfare from developers. Since Windows is still the platform of choice for PC gamers, what unique role will open source software have against the very solid DirectX framework and highly-tuned proprietary drivers?

"Too bad Linux doesn't have skinning like Windows does through WindowBlinds huh?" Linux doesn't have WindowBlinds skinning, but it does have more than enough customization. That said, WindowBlinds is great for XP.
