As I gaze down this thread I see a hint that we may well be getting had by Microsoft and we are justifying something that really has no justification. Progress supposedly is about saving us time and money and about simplifying things. Vista requires a bigger, more powerful and therefore more expensive computer to run effectively. It is more complex in its operation and takes up more disk space.Plus it has no real advantage or gain. I own a copy of Vista and took it off. I have looked down this t

As for them shutting off support. They did it with 95 and 98 and 2000 and there are still a lot of people using those OS's and people(as in geeks) are creating support packs and upgrades and they can be downloaded free from majorgeek or other sites. P2P has a lot of Autopatcher files so security fixes for XP are readily available as are full OS's. They may want to force people to upgrade to Vista but it will not happen until Joe Public is ready.

XP at the start was a mess too. Microsoft had no option but to fix all the myriad of holes it had from a security point of view. Stability they more or less got right from the launch. They spent a considerable amount of time totally a couple of years fixing and tweaking XP so now it shines above Vista from every functional standpoint. They said it would never be capable of glass effects. Guess what! It is now. They said it could not manage revolving or skewed windows....Guess what! It can. So wi

If you want to enlarge an existing wallpaper to your resolution then PhotoZoom enlarges digitally and there is almost negligible distortion. If you play around with the settings in PhotoZoom you will get pleasing results. My advice would be to look for images close to your resolution the PhotoZoom them.It is not that expensive either.

Zone Alarm Security Suite and SuperAntiSpyware.....have used that combination for a long time and it seems to keep all the nasties out. Every once in a while I download RemoveIT Pro and that catches anything the others miss. Keeps me happy and online.

What I find odd is this. In order to run Vista efficiently you need a minimum of 80gb HD and 1024mb of RAM.Not to mention a high end graphics card for the glass effects. That shuts a whole lot of perfectly good PC's out of upgrading to Vista because they simply do not have a big enough capacity to run Vista. Yet those PC's can run XP quite happily. Apart from the graphics, Vista is really no better than XP.It is not faster than XP and it takes up far more disk space. So where is the progress? Ho

My History with computers is I started with Windows ME and everyone was whining about it and I never had a problem at all with it. I upgraded to XP and I have never had an issue with that either. Loaded up Vista Ultimate. Tried it,threw it out as a bad joke and reloaded XP and got more resources from doing it and anything Shell wise of Vista's I can mimmick on XP and it does not take up as much disk space so all round I am a winner.Vista from my experience is all blow and no go. I get no problem

I agree with you in part Quentin. From my perspective and experience DA has more often than not been the Author of its own misfortune. I got behind it when it first started and was an active member for years. When Jark was there it was a different place. Much like here. Then when Angelo did what he did and more or less committed an act of piracy it just went from bad to worse. Like attracts like and the pirates all flocked together. When the split first happened there were two clearly opposed si

Whilst I tend to agree with the majority of what you have said Jafo, it has been my experience over the years that organization has never been their forte at DA. They have always had a constantly shifting clique and they tend to do as they please. RealitySquared has always cried too busy when confronted on matters or generally pays lip service. When the forums got out of hand there they did nothing for months. Then appointed members of the more recent DA wannabe's who then began banning based on

The only way to get Angelo's attention Fuzzy is to tax his pocket. If enough accounts get closed in quick succession he will take notice and act. I have seen it happen before. They offered me my seniorship back after they wrongfully removed it and I told them where it could be better placed.

My suggestion is to close all your DA accounts and cease supporting DA...they clearly are not worthy of support. If Wincustomize keeps its integrity and keeps up its copyright policy support then in the long run Wincustomize will come out the winner and will likely gain greater membership. Artists are sick to the teeth with people who think they can use other peoples work as they like. Many artists such as myself make a living from art. It is no laughing matter when some pinhead decides to eleva

RealitySquared was in charge of Policy Violation team at deviantART if I recall Boxxi....and I agree, that given the obvious violation and the number of complaints they have had, and the attention on the offending articles page, it is indeed a disgrace. A snail on mogadon would move faster!

I do not support deviantART and haven't since Jark(Scott) got ripped off by Angelo. It has gone down hill since. They may have a lot of members but look at what they achieve......organized chaos run by big ego's. I support sites that protect copyright and damn the rest. Easiest way to deal with deviantART is to show it in action. Withdraw support for their site if this is how they behave. No need for insults etc. They are welcome to act as they wish and recieve the prizes for their actions. We d

All this year I have done battle with rippers and sites that allow rips to be uploaded. What intrigues me is even when a site states in its policy that other peoples work cannot be uploaded without permission the admins still allow it through. Even when the original artists name is on the image still and even when, like Boxxi, the artist is well known. This problem will continue as long as sites like the one I have described cannot even stick to their own policy. It will continue as long as peop

I am so thrilled for you and understand fully what you have been through. I went through a messy split in 1986 and my ex wife twisted the kids and I have not seen my three sons for twenty odd years now...no contact or anything. I guess what upsets me most is regardless of how we felt about each other I would never have done the same to her. I still accord her the gratitude of being their mother and the respect that goes with it. I do not understand why she needed to act so cruelly and....contrar

Hahahahahaha! Way to go Boxxi! Too many people think they can take someone elses work and do what they want with it. Make bootskins from someone elses work etc. If it is not yours then do not use it without permission. It is not a difficult thing for people to grasp. I guess what irks me most is the egotistical attitude that says they do not even have to ask the owner. If the shoe were on the other foot they would bleat the house down and generally when they get sprung and cop the consequences t

I'll second that Fuzzy! .....this kind of thing is getting really difficult to stop as some sites think it is no big deal. Point is that copyright infringement can incur a fine of up to ten thousand dollars per image in some instances. The other problem though is tracking them to serve the papers.

CS versions of Photoshop do use a lot of resources. CS is not necessary. If you look at Boxxi for example, he still uses Photoshop 5 and produces exceptional work with that. I use Photoshop 7 but have five and six also. New versions of photoshop have Bridging stuff and photosharing stuff and go adobe...blah...blah...all unnecessary stuff in my view. All I need an application like that to do is edit or build an image. PSP8 is the app I use most....fills my needs more than adequately and is not a
