Comparisons are odious, but sometime they can be useful in seeing things a different way. Protestants, Afrikaners and Israelis,(not to mention the US of A) all settled in lands, through fair means or foul, which weren’t initially theirs. As a descendant of Scottish settlers – I think my family came to Northern Ireland in the early 19th century – I’ve been

Ok, rather than phone you up and bend your ear, I'm going to try and post a response - for the second time. I f-ing hate technology. I think your blog is well named. This article was well written, eminently rational, and full of common sense. An outsider would probably think, O G San should be in charge, he's the only one in that god-forsaken country with any wit. Not that that would be a bad thing <img src="../images/smiles/smile.gif" border=

Thanks for your post, CariElf - very thoughtprovoking. I think we need more and better education about sex, to dispel the myths and equip young people to protect themselves, personally. However, society is still being heavily influenced by religions that are thousands of years old, and that's just complicating things. <

Phantom Puppet, I can't put Chakgogka's questions in a better way, so I won't even try. I'm interested to hear your response though. You do seem to believe, though, that, because older generations have been no better than present ones, that we shouldn't worry. This I cannot agree with. It seems as if you're sayi

When, exactly, did sex become a bad thing? Most of the newspapers in the UK you pick up these days are full of condemnation for the licentiousness of society, but include pictures of scantily clad women to counterpoint, or perhaps prove the point that some columnists may feel that the country has gone to the dogs, and that (canine) readership must be catered for. Listening to Silvan Shalom on the radio this morning, I counted at least three mentions of dismantling terror – so you’ve got me hearing things in a different way now. Insightful!

I don't know, I love owning books. Musty second hand bookshops are a good compromise

It has been quite a month in London. Things have by and large returned to normal: the city is back at pre-bombing business; the tube is as packed as ever; the buskers’ music sounds less poignant and more cheery as the weeks go by. The would-be bombers have been rounded up, and as the politicians go on their holidays, life is going on. So it goes. And so we

There is something about a bookshop. The boundless possibility of the knowledge and enjoyment encased in shelves after shelves of books. Ok, I’m a nerd and I admit it. Not being at school anymore, and surrounded by literate types, I’m figuring I can out myself in a bold way. And the bookshop near my work is pretty decent, and I can spend my lunch hours tryi

The traditional family unit is what's kept the human race self perpetuating all these years. If we "evolve" and decide that its: a) no longer neccesary b) no longer even desirable c) and thats just fine and dandy ...we may just evolve ourselves right into extinction. T

Forever Women have been the one to shoulder the responsibilities of the home from as long as I can remember. And if the woman decides to work outside of the home she has an even heavier burden. It's been just as hard for her to balance work and family life. So now the men of today (note - TODAY) are feeling the angst o

Gideon The "tolerance" the left clamors for MUST include tolerance for those (BOTH male AND female) who wish to retain the more "traditional" (whatever that means) family lifestyle. I’m not rejecting the traditional / Ozzie and Harriet (not familiar with O&H, but anyway) lifestyle – one day

So here we are in the 21st century, and the roles have seemingly reversed. Man is no longer the strong silent type, but fraught with anxiety and angst about his direction in life and his role in society. Woman is not questioned about her position, but instead is assumed to be coping just fine; indeed, it is her (alleged) equality that is causing much of the male torme

I agree with you, I just didn't say what I wanted to say quite like that. See, when I said: I agree with Blair actually; the fundamentalists who pursued these attacks cannot be negotiated with; they had no qualms about this devastation. But those who carried out the attacks, I believe, were very much motivated by the ca

Good stuff Shame that mellowing with age only seems to apply to the Republican side - I know Paisley hasn't been lying in hedgerows but the man seems to have as much bile to spare as ever...

Thanks for noticing Doc Time will tell is right. There are a couple of things which will demonstrate the republican movement's commitment to peace. 1. Join the Police Service of Northern Ireland. This was reformed following the Good Friday Agreement as it had been a Protestant Police force essentially. The nationalist SDLP encourage people to join, but Sinn Fein to this point has actively disc

Today. I get on the tube and the doors shut, as normal, and as you would expect and hope them to. Then we sit at the platform for five minutes, for no apparent reason, until we, the crammed commuters, in our little metal and glass tube, see about 7 police officers and Underground staff running towards the front of the train. No announcement is made. The doors open, an

But what of the roadblock? What is the Zionist explanation for that? What definition of Israeli “security” is served by forcing people to take two taxis instead of one? There is rationality in the irrationality. It's like those muppets who blocked the roads back home whenever Drumcree was at it's peak.

What Little Whip said - articles where people have commented are being displayed as nil (although if you click on the '0 comments', you can then see the comments - it's just frustrating), and the site visits isn't working either. This has been happening since monday afternoon / evening. Thanks for listening!
